Mexican Graffiti & Old Joe Meek

The Mexican mural movement goes back to the Mexican Revolutionary past. After the Revolution ended in 1917 the new Mexican government established commissions for public buildings, churches, hospitals, museums, and administrative buildings were painted with various murals to depict Mexican history. Sometimes the murals portray the Mexican peasant, armed insurrections and the history of Mexico. Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Sigerios represented this early movement of ‘peoples art.’ The notion of the artists was that art should be accessible to everybody not just the elite. Many of these murals are still displayed and well-known by the Mexican people.
