Death Toll Rises in West Java, Indonesia Landslide

The death toll in an Indonesian landslide in West Java has risen to 17 with at least 60 others still missing.

The thousand-foot-deep landslide, which took place yesterday, is covering about 50 houses, a small tea factory, a mosque and a health center in an area, about 90 miles southeast of Jakarta.

Local media reports say access to roads in the area have been cut, hampering rescue efforts and the movement of heavy equipment to clear the landslide.

Landslides are common during the rainy season… and some of the damage is being blamed on illegal logging.
