Episode 1: Austria - The Europa BridgeThe Europa Bridge near Innsbruck is a core section of Austria's Brenner Autobahn. It is also a bottleneck for travelers heading south through the Alps to Italy,Austria and Switzerland. In the 1960s,the arching structure was considered an engineering masterpiece and for four decades was Europe's highest bridge. During the Cold War,the military set up barricades and rigged the crossing with explosives. Today,the bridge is a major road link seeing heavy traffic over the Easter and summer holidays.
