Five Missing After Chinese Petrochemical Plant Explosion

An explosion at a state-owned petrochemical plant in China's Gansu Province has left five people missing and six injured. The cause of the blast is under investigation.
Five people are missing and six injured after an explosion at a petrochemical plant belonging to China’s top state-owned oil firm, China National Petroleum Corporation.
According to a state television report, one of the injured is in serious condition.
The blast happened at an oil tank 19 miles from Lanzhou in northern Gansu Province.
According to a PetroChina official, the blast hit a chemical storage tank in the chemical part of the complex and did not affect operations at the Lanzhou refinery.
Lanzhou refinery, with a capacity of 200-thousand barrels per day, is one of the biggest in western China.
Local environmental protection officials admitted dust levels within a half-mile radius from the plant are eight times higher than normal.
