Midwestern acts of kindness

Chicago Tribune reporter Dan Simmons revisits the tiny town of Oelwein, Iowa, where he was involved in a nearly tragic car accident on a snowy night on Dec. 23, 2007. He survived only due to the help of strangers, who rescued him and helped him return to his destination of St. Paul, Minnesota -- a five-hour drive. Simmons got a chance this holiday seaon to thank these Samaritans, whom he says epitomize Midwestern kindness.
