00:00Michael, for those Afghans who have left Pakistan or are actually preparing to leave,
00:05what situation and living conditions does await them in Afghanistan?
00:11Really, if you were trying to choose anywhere in the world to start a new life,
00:17Afghanistan would be about at the bottom of the list.
00:22It is true that there is less armed conflict there in Afghanistan
00:26than during the years that the Taliban were running an insurgency.
00:31But apart from that, pretty much everything else has got worse.
00:36Economically, the situation is very difficult.
00:39The humanitarian aid budgets have been cut.
00:42So there are real questions about how will people get back on their feet?
00:45But of course, if you're a girl or a woman, what have you got to look for?
00:49You're going to a country which has imposed the most draconian restrictions in the world,
00:54leaving a country which is equally an Islamic republic,
00:57but where women have enjoyed relative freedom.
01:00So it's a really difficult and uncertain future for people pushed across into Afghanistan.
