Tidjane Thiam removed from electoral list ahead of presidential election

Tidjane Thiam, leader of Ivory Coast's main opposition party, has been removed from the electoral list ahead of the October 25 presidential election. On Tuesday, April 22, the court ruled that Thiam had lost his Ivorian nationality, a decision that is final and cannot be appealed.

00:13national when he registered. The decision, which cannot be appealed, could end the Ivorian-born
00:19Thiam's ambition to run in the world's top cocoa-producing nation's presidential election.
00:24The issue of nationality has been a destruction in Tijan's campaign for several months,
00:29born in Ivory Course. He acquired French nationality in 1987 and renounced it in March in order
00:35to run for president. As candidates cannot hold dual nationality in the election, the Ivorian-born
00:40scams have denounced the decision. However, it's open and cited Article 48 of the nationality
00:46coordinating from the 1960s, which states that acquiring another nationality leads to the
00:51loss of Ivorian nationality. This rule, however, does not apply to individuals who are dual
00:56nationals by Ba'at.
