00:00I was shocked when I heard the news at four o'clock that Pope Francis passed away. I loved
00:17seeing him yesterday at the window of the Vatican and going around the piazza. It was, you know,
00:26maybe it was providential, like Cardinal Dolan said. His last words were, Happy Easter to everyone.
00:34Isn't that unbelievable? And he reminded me of St. Paul's letter to, I think it was to Timothy.
00:46I fought the good fight. I finished the race. I kept the faith. Boy, did he. He really fought the
00:56good fight. And going around the piazza, he finished the race, I thought, to say goodbye maybe
01:03to everyone and bless them. And I kept the faith. He lifts those words off the page.
01:12He was so humble. And I was actually there the night he was elected. And he came out of the
01:27piazza, I mean, to the piazza from the window, from the balcony. And he said, just simply,
01:34Buona Santa. And everyone went crazy. They were so excited. And he asked the crowd that were
01:44there to bless him before he blessed them. And I think that said everything. That it wasn't
01:55about himself. It was about being accepted and the people. And he was a shepherd of all these
02:03lambs that he asked to bless him before he blessed them.
02:08I think it was just such the juxtaposition of he being in the piazza. He met Vice President
02:32in advance that day, who just became a Catholic. And I think praying that the Holy Spirit
02:40picks the one for this time. And I think that says everything. Someone that maybe encompasses
02:52all three. John Paul II, Pope Benedict, and Pope Francis.
03:04And he loved, you know, he was an example of loving everyone, no matter who you were. But
03:11we can, you know, talk about everything. But we can disagree. But we could still love each
03:16other and not be angry. And that's so needed, isn't it?
03:22Well, I try to go to Mass every day. But I made a special effort this morning because
03:27of the Pope. He was our Pope for the last 12 or 13 years. He did the best he could. And
03:32I have to thank God for that.
03:40Well, I think it was his focus on the poor and the focus on the immigrants and things like
03:45that. I might not agree with everything he said, but I believe he had courage. I think
03:50and his humility. Those two things would be a big thing.
03:53I think it's just an interesting moment in time. And I think it's really, yeah, I think
03:57it's important to feel like you're, you know, part of part of something because, you know,
04:02I think with the evolution of religion, we were just saying that sometimes it feels like
04:08a church can be more of a, especially St. Patrick's can feel like more of a spectacle or almost
04:13like sort of like a living, you know, museum in a sense than an actual place of worship.
04:18So it's interesting, though, to witness, you know, the strength of faith, I think, regardless
04:22of what you believe in.
04:24I mean, I think as an American, I do feel like kind of kind of solidarity or pride with
04:42the fact that he was like the first Latin American or New World Pope. So hopefully in
04:47the future, we see more of a diversity of geographic background when it comes to Pope's election.
04:52I guess that's up to the convent, but that's something I'll be looking forward to in the
04:56future. I also think, you know, some of his decisions I all agree with or disagree with,
05:04but I think it definitely was a very consequential pope, moved the church forward a lot. So it's
05:09interesting to see what the next pope will do.
