00:00Most of the lawmakers in the House were around to see Pope Francis make his pilgrimage to the country in mid-January 2015.

00:08His kindness, modesty and genuine love for the Filipinos came out shining bright, which the country vividly remembers to this day.

00:16And a number of prominent House legislators spoke their minds and hearts on the passing of a beloved People's Pope, as our Melales Mora sums up in this report.

00:26A paragon of goodness, love and humility, this is how some lawmakers describe Pope Francis.

00:36According to House Assistant Majority Leader Jude Asitre, a native of Leyte, he will never forget the Pope's visit to Tacloban City in 2015.

00:45He shared Pope Francis with heartfelt sympathy, stood in solidarity with the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda, leaving a lasting memory in the hearts of everyone.

00:55He was there when our region was recovering from Typhoon Yolanda, when we were at our lowest.

01:02He was there to really assure us that we were not alone and that he was, he's there for us.

01:08Sabi nga niya, a little bit too late, but he's there, I'm here.

01:12Alala ko pa yung sermon niya noong misa niya sa tarmac ng Tacloban.

01:19And all these images, all these memories keep coming back to me since we've learned of his passing.

01:27So while we mourn, while we are sad by his passing, at the same time we are also grateful.

01:35And we won't express that gratitude to him for being not just a Pope, but really a father to many of us Filipinos, especially in Eastern Visayas.

01:46Though not a Catholic, House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Alonto Adyong, a Muslim lawmaker, also joined Filipinos in mourning.

01:54He expressed admiration for the Pope and his exemplary leadership.

01:58He's one of the leading voices in, I don't know, in pushing for, well, number one is human rights.

02:06He's very active.

02:08Before he's becoming a Pope, he was really active in, I don't know, in interfaith dialogue.

02:16And Islam is one of those religions that really pushes for that understanding and tolerance among the three major Abrahamic faiths.

02:27To formally convey the sympathy and condolences of the members of Congress over the incident, Agri-Party's Representative Wilbert Lee filed House Resolution No. 2265.

02:38According to House Speaker Martin Romualdez, for them, he was more than a Pope, but a father, a friend, and a guiding light in times of darkness.

02:47Though Pope Francis has passed, his kindness, wisdom, and deep compassion will never fade.
