00:00Are European Luxury Goods Produced in China?
00:08The ongoing trade war between the US and China is now all over TikTok
00:13and European fashion houses have found themselves sandwiched somewhere in the middle.
00:17A bag from a high-end European fashion house such as Hermès Louis Vuitton or Prada
00:21can cost hundreds of thousands of euros.
00:24But on TikTok, individuals claiming to be Chinese manufacturers
00:27say they are the ones really making these goods.
00:30Speaking in English and referring to prices in dollars,
00:33they appear to be targeting American consumers known for buying these goods.
00:37For the past more than 30 years, we have been an OEM factory
00:40for most of the luxury brands around the world.
00:43Gucci, Prada, Coach, Vuitton, you name it.
00:46Real OEM factory for those luxury brands.
00:48We are the same group of people.
00:5230,000 USD.
00:53And do you know how much it costs from us?
00:55If you buy from us, only less than one-tenth of its price.
00:59On their website, Hermès lists locations where it produces and manufactures,
01:04but does not mention China.
01:05The same goes for Louis Vuitton.
01:08Meanwhile, the EU stipulates that for goods to be labelled made in Europe,
01:12their last substantial transformation must occur in the country of production.
01:16Investigative journalist Noémie Leclerc told EuroVerify that
01:20the majority of these TikTok videos in fact display counterfeit products.
01:24Leclerc added that these videos are being posted as the Chinese government moves towards
01:28encouraging counterfeit production in a bid to retaliate against US tariffs.
01:33Despite this all, the luxury goods industry is shrouded with secrecy
01:36and protects the finer details of its supply chain.
01:39According to experts, luxury brands such as Ralph Lauren and Prada
01:43do manufacture in China at stages of the production process.
