Transcript
00:00For the first round!
00:07So here we go, ten rounds or fewer in a light heavyweight division, Whittaker in the beige, Cameron in the black.
00:16Cameron with that tight guard, he's got a simple method, there's nothing flashy about him, there doesn't seem to be too much all that special,
00:36but when you look at the all-round package, he's a fighter who knows who he is and what he is.
00:43He will take that space, he will creep in, he will block and ride those punches and when he's close enough he will let his hands go
00:50and look to bring that kind of heat that Whittaker struggled to deal with when they met in Riyadh.
01:00There was a nice right hand for the body from Whittaker there.
01:05He just got that right hand in round the back of the guard there, Whittaker, as well.
01:13Looking for the overhand right, half-court Whittaker round the back of the head, Whittaker setting his feet and putting some gas on that right hand.
01:27Whittaker's looking nice and relaxed to start off, he's just getting behind that jab, picking his other shots off there, not looking for anything too big at the moment.
01:34And his punches look sharp and crisp, you know, he's been placing them to the body up, there's no slow coming back, very sharp.
01:44I feel that Cameron looks a little bit tense, to be fair.
01:46A couple of times he's thrown a slow left hook as he's stepping in, which is quite dangerous against a counterpuncher like Whittaker.
01:55He can come out and hit the sharp right hand on the top of that.
01:58Now Foster just having a quiet work with Cameron about letting one go round the back of the head, which he did do.
02:03Into the final minute of round one, planting that jab, trying to pierce that guard.
02:18Cameron stepping across looking to let that right hand go, he will bring this pressure as we said, he will creep in, keep coming in.
02:28He's not particularly explosive, doesn't have that burst of acceleration, but the pace, the tempo that he does bring is consistent.
02:37That's a good run from Cameron, but come on back from Whittaker, good response.
02:41Yeah, just consistent, steady pressure from Cameron, that's what he'll be, just trying to get a little bit closer.
02:46Round by round, and trying to keep Whittaker working harder than he wants to, hoping to catch up with him as the round fights go on.
02:55Cameron's team will be expecting the first three rounds, workers are going to be razor sharp, and he's going to be outboxed, and he's going to be taking shots.
03:04But it's about can he tire him out down the stretch through the middle rounds.
03:14Good opening round though from Whittaker, he'll be happy with that.
03:16There's the QR code, give him a scan, he can score the fight, give us your verdict.
03:33Yeah, there's a good double jab, right hand from Cameron.
03:51The response from Whittaker there on that, on the recoil, he gets some good leverage in that right hand.
04:00I feel that Cameron's right hand just caught him on the end of it, whereas Whittaker didn't get a lot of power in that one.
04:07So into the second.
04:09Yeah, I think all the punching from Whittaker was crisp, you know, it was sharp, there was nothing lazy when he was pulling the hand back after landing the shot.
04:18Going up and down nicely, head and body with the jab.
04:21Camera's going to make sure that he brings his feet in rather than reaching.
04:28Again, counter punching, when you're reaching you overshoot yourself and you're wide open for somebody like Whittaker to counter.
04:35Something he does tend to do is come over the top of that front foot a bit, as you say, he needs to keep those feet underneath him.
04:46Left to the body there from Whittaker.
04:51He's looking to curl that right hand in round the back of the guard because Cameron has got those gloves up to protect the front of the face,
05:03but maybe not so much round the back into the side of the head and the ear.
05:12Whittaker just comes off the ropes and grabs hold of Cameron quite obviously there, the referee gets in nice and quick.
05:18Bit of blood coming from Cameron's nose there.
05:24Probably the effects of that jab from Whittaker.
05:27That's a better looking jab from Cameron, just pops it out, bearing up the weight of shot there, Whittaker.
05:34Good right hand though for Cameron there.
05:40To Southcourt briefly, looks to step in the bag left of the body.
05:43Having a bit more success in this round, Cameron.
05:47The important thing for Cameron...
05:49Oh, that's a great right hand!
05:50He's there from Whittaker.
05:52And he's right here Cameron, he's in big trouble here.
05:54The referee is having a close look.
05:56His legs are not steady, he's sitting down on the ropes.
05:59The camera has been stopped in.
06:01Orposta has jumped in and stopped the fight.
06:05He got him going and he was on shaky legs at that point.
06:08And then you can make the case that the ropes kept him up in that red corner.
06:14The referee though let it go on a little bit longer and then jumped in and stopped him.
06:18There's a little bit of commotion at ringside here.
06:21Andy Lee just getting a hold of Ben Whittaker.
06:24Cameron himself is looking to go and speak to Whittaker without any kind of malice there at all.
06:29There's an enormous amount of emotion flying around this ring.
06:35Leuton up on the far side as well.
06:37Seem to take exception to something that he felt that Whittaker may have done in celebration is very difficult to see.
06:45The stoppage itself, oh man, let's get back to that because that's the crucial issue here.
06:50It was a good shot that landed Whittaker.
06:52Going around the ring now, just mocking the crowd slightly.
06:56asking them to raise their voices because he didn't get the best reception when he came in here.
07:02He didn't get the best reception when his name was read out when he was in the ring.
07:05He looked a little bit surprised by that.
07:08But ultimately he has done the business here.
07:11We wondered whether that punch power would increase under Andy Lee.
07:16And it looks like it may well have done. What did you make of the stoppage?
07:19I'd like to see it again. Initially I thought it was a bit premature.
07:23Watch his left leg.
07:24But his legs definitely went. I mean, it was a good shot, his legs went and he backed off quickly.
07:29Ben Whittaker sensed it, jumped on him, unloaded with hard shots.
07:34Didn't really, you know, the minute it happened quick and I'd like to see it again.
07:37But my first reaction was, oh, that was a bit soon. He should have given Cameron a bit longer to at least try and get back into it.
07:43To be honest, I've got to see it again.
07:46Yeah, I think, I think he probably, I think Ben was going to do it anyway. I think he was going to stop him anyway.
07:51But I thought it was a bit premature. I do need to see it again.
07:55It did. I know what you're saying. It did look premature at first. I did think that.
07:58But it was in the barrage. Not the initial shot. Obviously the initial shot, his legs have gone.
08:03But when he gets backed up and he goes into the corner and he takes a couple of shots,
08:08his left leg actually kind of like kicks out in front of him and stiffens up.
08:12And I thought then he's completely gone. The leg's completely gone.
08:15So he was going to get knocked out pretty bad. I'm certain of that.
08:19I think so too. I just, yeah, I thought the rev maybe could let it go a couple of seconds longer maybe.
08:23I need to see it again.
08:25On first look, it does look like that. If you haven't seen the leg, if you don't see the leg, for me, I saw the leg kick out and I thought, oh.
08:31I didn't see that.
08:39OK, we're going to get the final announcement first and then we will have a look at the replay.
08:44So we don't leave these two hanging around in centre ring too long.
08:48What an explosive performance. So that was from Ben Whittaker.
08:51A Whittaker early stoppage is not a result that many people picked.
08:56Nobody I've spoken to this week thought that that would happen.
09:00It just goes to show anything can happen when that bell goes.
09:09Ladies and gentlemen,
09:12referee Howard Foster calls us out for this contest at 1 minute 53 seconds of the second round.
09:19Declaring your winner by TKO and still undefeated, and still the IMF international
09:28and Hayward champion, the surgeon, Ben Whittaker.
09:36Good sportsmanship between the pair of them. There were no real complaints or protests from Cameron when the fight was stopped.
09:45That's a point that is worth making. It's been so anticipated this.
09:50All the talk really throughout the week was could Whittaker take the heat, the pressure that Cameron would bring.
09:59Maybe he'd build up a lead and would need to hang on towards the end, but we felt that at some stage it would really get rough for him.
10:06But he has answered all of the critics there.
10:10And he has done it in style. He started off so sharp. I mean that jab was just razor blades.
10:16Look at that right hand there.
10:18And then he goes straight downstairs.
10:20What?
10:27Yeah.
10:29It's one of them, yeah.
10:31I mean he did push back, did he? He sagged into the corner.
10:37Yeah, I don't think you can really argue with that.
10:41That was a good shot here. Nailed him.
10:43And then jumps on him. Unloads. You see if then he's staggered back there. Legs are unsteady. He's unloading here.
10:48And just here, he takes the seat on the bottom rope. The knee is stiff and that's when Arzosta jumps in.
10:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he's not complaining there either.
10:59But they did look to be a slightly unsavouring incident at the end of this.
11:03Yeah, he sticks his head through and he's shouting at the opposition corner. There's no need for that.
11:08What's that?
11:10When he goes, when he stops Cameron, the reason why it kicks off with the fans, with Cameron's management and team,
11:18is it looks like he sticks his head up through the ropes towards the corner team.
11:23Right, okay.
11:24Well, we'll see in a second, but let's just have another look at the finish.
11:27And the referee was very, very close.
11:31And meanwhile, he makes his way over to the other side of the rig, sticks his head through the ropes.
11:36That's Grant and Pearce there. That's his court. Nice! That's, that's classless. That's classless.
11:42I don't care what, I don't care how good your performance is. I don't care whether the crowd boo you or what.
11:49Their man's just got beat, just got stopped.
11:52He rushes straight across there to stick his head to the run. That's classless.
11:55That's, that's, there's nothing next to excuse that. I understand the emotions you want to celebrate.
11:59Jump on the ropes, celebrate to your fans and stuff like people normally do.
12:02But don't go over to the other man's corner.
12:05And you can see that, that he spat.
12:07I don't think he spat. I didn't see that. I don't think he spat, I don't think he spat at him.
12:14I think that was just, you know, he just came out. I don't think he spat at him.
12:20Okay, well there's, there's a lot to talk about.
12:23A lot to talk about, listen, brilliant performance, outstanding performance.
12:26And that was really, really good. Unexpected as well by a lot of people.
12:30That's the way to answer your critics coming up for what he did.
12:33Class, brilliant. But the ending bit, there's no need for that.
12:37He lay himself down a bit there.
12:39Okay, we'll be getting into all of that and hearing from him next.
