00:33It's a political flashpoint, a historical reckoning and a strategic weapon in the BJP's arsenal.

00:40Is this the beginning of the end for Congress's moral high ground?

00:44The National Herald was founded in 1938 by Jawaharlal Nehru to serve as the voice of the freedom movement.

00:50But by 1950, questions were already being raised.

00:54In a set of now public letters, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, India's Iron Man warned Nehru of suspicious donations,

01:02questionable donors and government contracts being exchanged for newspaper favours.

01:08He flagged a 75,000 rupee donation tied to Himalayan Airways, a company controversially awarded a government contract.

01:16One of the donors, Zakhani, faced charges of fraud and a sitting union minister, Ahmed Kidwai, was allegedly fundraising for the Herald through questionable businessmen.

01:29Nehru's response?

01:30Wake, detached and defensive.

01:34Patel wasn't convinced.

01:35In another letter, the very next day, he declared flatly, there is no element of clarity in them.

01:42This, experts say, was the first warning sign and one that the Congress party failed to heed.

01:48Fast forward to today and Patel's concerns seem prophetic.

01:58The Enforcement Directorate has accused Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of manipulating legal structures to quietly take control of the National Herald's assets worth over 5,000 crore rupees.

02:12A little-known entity called Young India Limited, in which the Gandhis own the majority stake.

02:19The BJP calls it a textbook scam, public money turned into private wealth using political power as the fulcrum.

02:26The Congress insists it's vendetta politics, but the facts are hard to ignore.

02:31The ED's chart sheet paints a damning picture of misuse of charitable trusts, evasion of scrutiny and backdoor asset acquisition.

02:42And leading the chart from the very beginning has been BJP veteran Dr. Subramanian Swami.

02:48He calls it a systematic conspiracy to launder power into property.

02:53For the Bharatiya Janata Party, this is not just about the Gandhis, it's about the Congress legacy.
