00:00We've all got a dream car.
00:06For most, it remains out of reach.
00:11I'm hoping you can help.
00:13So, I'm taking on the ultimate training challenge to make motoring dreams come true.
00:18The next time you see me, I promise I'm going to be in your dream car.
00:22Here's how. I meet car lovers who hand over their daily drive.
00:26And this is my starting point, that's brilliant.
00:29And whatever cash they can spare.
00:31But she's given us this car on a grand.
00:34Through a series of car trades.
00:35Got a deal.
00:36Well done, yeah.
00:37And money making deals.
00:39That's the car, let's go in a bid.
00:41I'll trade up until I've got enough money to buy the car they've always wanted.
00:45You look happy.
00:46Oh, yes.
00:47I'll draw on years of experience and share my tricks of the trade.
00:52This car has already increased in value just by moving it geographically.
00:56Helping me in the workshop is my mate Elvis, an ex Formula One mechanic.
01:01Such a good feeling.
01:03Working together, the pressure's on for us to deliver the dream car.
01:07Thank you so much.
01:09This might even change my life.
01:13This time we get into a tight spot.
01:15Stop, stop, stop.
01:16Shut the doors, I'll put a bit of string around the back.
01:18On a mission to deliver an iconic Japanese sports car to photographer Harlan.
01:22I don't often say this but that seems impossible.
01:25We risk it all on a once in a lifetime trade.
01:28I've never bought eight motorbikes before but we just have.
01:31To deliver a fast and furious dream car.
01:34This is my favourite car in the whole world.
01:37I'm excited today because I'm on my way to an old airfield in Hertfordshire to go and meet a guy called Harlan.
01:56He is single-mindedly, 100% obsessed and he has been his whole life in one particular Japanese sports car.
02:04It's the Nissan Skyline who can blame him.
02:07It's an amazing car.
02:08He's also an aspiring motor sports photographer.
02:11So that means I'm off to the race track.
02:14I've always been into cars since I was a little kid.
02:25I grew up with my dad taking me to car shows and race tracks.
02:30My dream car is the Nissan Skyline.
02:33It's got one of the greatest engines ever made.
02:35It had amazing racing pedigree when it came out
02:38and it's something that's just always spoke to me with its history.
02:44One of the most iconic Japanese sports cars of all time.
02:50The high-performance coupe mixes samurai sharp styling with a stunning straight-six engine.
02:56This 1990s R33 GTR is a genuine four-seater with a 0-60 of 5.3 seconds.
03:04The star of movies and video games.
03:07It's four round rear lights are unforgettable.
03:11You must be Harlan.
03:14Oh, hello, mate.
03:15How are you?
03:16I'm very well, thank you.
03:17Good to see you.
03:18Sorry to disturb you while you're working.
03:19Look at that.
03:20That is...
03:21Whoa!
03:22That's fantastic.
03:24So tell us about your love of cars.
03:28Where's it come from?
03:29Well, my dad's a mechanic.
03:30So from day one, growing up, I was always around tuna cars, that sort of thing.
03:35Going to the race track with my dad.
03:36So straight out of school, went to work quite a number of years in the motor of trade.
03:41All the time saving for my dream car.
03:43But one day I kind of realised that I wanted to do a little bit more with my life.
03:47And I set myself back to university.
03:49I've rinsed all my savings.
03:51OK, well that makes me even more determined now to get the car that you want, which is
03:56a Nissan Skyline.
03:57Why one of them?
03:58It was always the hero car in the films.
04:00It was always the best car in the games.
04:02It's a proper race car designed for the road.
04:04I know exactly why you would fall in love with one.
04:07But to get there, I need a good starting point.
04:10So have you got something tasty for me to start trading with?
04:12It's not quite like what's going around here, but I'll come and show you this.
04:15It's just a car park.
04:16I really want to do the best I can for him.
04:19And knowing Harlem, he's a sports car fan.
04:21So he's going to have something tasty for me to get going with.
04:26These are all nice, aren't they, in this car park?
04:28These are good.
04:29Lovely.
04:30So is it this nice little Porsche?
04:31That looks all right.
04:32Cracking car.
04:35It's that one.
04:38No, don't tell me it's the MX-5.
04:40Seriously.
04:41Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:42What's the matter?
04:43Well, I mean, it's just an old MX-5.
04:45It's a Mark I, isn't it?
04:46Okay.
04:47Well, let's have a look at what we've got.
04:48Okay.
04:49That's good, Andy.
04:50It's got a detachable hardtop.
04:51That's got some value to it.
04:52Yeah.
04:53It's a Unos as well, so it's an import.
04:55It is a Unos.
04:56Import, yeah.
04:57That's street cred, that is.
04:58Is it, really?
04:59Yeah.
05:00Okay.
05:01Paintwork's a bit flat.
05:02And it's got some trick bits on it.
05:04I see you put a boot spoiler on it and different wheels on it.
05:06A wooden steering wheel.
05:08Well, if I've got to work with that, what else can you throw in?
05:11You've got a few grand you can give me to get me started?
05:14I've got a couple of hundred quid that I've been saving for a rainy day.
05:17What, as in like £200?
05:19If I actually pulled this off, I'd be wearing a cape and my underwear will be on the outside
05:25of my trousers.
05:26I will be a superhero.
05:28There's Mazda MX-5s and then there's Haaland's Mazda MX-5.
05:32And he wants me to turn that into a Skyline?
05:34Come on.
05:35I mean, seriously.
05:36This is going to be a tough one.
05:37I'm going to do it for you.
05:38I'm going to take this away and I'm going to get you your Nissan Skyline.
05:41You are the master.
05:42I do believe in you, mate.
05:43I do.
05:44Well, thank you, Harlan.
05:45I really do.
05:47I like your confidence in me.
05:51How can I shift this quick?
05:53Well, it could make a good track day car.
05:56It's already got a rollover hoop, alloys and a spoiler.
05:59I could sell it faster if I target a motorsport look and feel and go with a strong silver and
06:04black colour scheme.
06:05I love the fact that it's got the detachable hardtop.
06:08I think it's the wrong colour being in red.
06:10I think if we were to paint it black, it would help the car.
06:14That way, we'd end up with a car that wouldn't look too bad.
06:17And I reckon we can get it down the road.
06:19But a decent Skyline could be eight grand.
06:22And this Mazda is worth around £400.
06:25I need to come up with some very clever trades.
06:32What is that?
06:34Well, I mean, I know what it is, but what's it doing here?
06:38Yes, it's not the best I could bring here, to be honest with you.
06:42I apologise.
06:43I may have said something that we're going to regret.
06:46Because I promised that we're going to turn this into a Nissan Skyline.
06:52What? Are you serious?
06:55I mean, I don't often say this, but that seems impossible.
06:59Look, the guy is lovely.
07:02He's called Harlan. He's a mature student.
07:04He's gone back into higher education.
07:06Every single penny he'd saved for his dream car and Nissan Skyline,
07:10he's gone and invested that money in himself.
07:12Tell me there's a massive bundle of cash that comes along with this.
07:15There is some cash to come with it.
07:17I've got £200.
07:21I mean, my goodness.
07:25There's enough to change the steering wheel.
07:27And you could paint this roof black, actually, because being in red, it just doesn't suit the car.
07:32Hey, I don't even know where to start.
07:34I mean...
07:35I just...
07:36I know.
07:37I was thinking the only way we're ever going to turn this into a Nissan Skyline
07:42is if me and you dumped in three grand of our own money.
07:46Of our personal cash?
07:49Our personal cash.
07:50Three grand, yeah.
07:51Once I get trade in and I earn enough money, I will give us back our three grand.
07:55You won't lose the money.
07:57Just treat it like a loan so I can get trade in.
08:00I mean, look, of course I trust you.
08:02But you better get that money back.
08:04I will, I promise.
08:05Alright, let's get cracking.
08:07So Elvis is on board with this short-term loan
08:10and I've got an idea for the track day Mazda.
08:12But even if we can sell it, it's just going to be for hundreds.
08:15And we're going to need thousands for a Nissan Skyline.
08:18So I need a clever plan to get ahead with the next trade.
08:25This old wooden steering wheel doesn't suit our track day style.
08:31I've spent £60 on a black motorsport inspired upgrade
08:35trimmed in Alcantara for extra grip in the corners.
08:38So I'm going to change this steering wheel.
08:41And the first thing I'm going to do is having taken the horn button out,
08:46I can now get access to the central nut that's in here.
08:49And I'm going to loosen that off, but not completely off
08:52because when I start to pull this steering wheel off the splines,
08:56quite often they're pretty well stuck.
08:58And you've got to give them a good yank.
09:00And eventually at some point it just dislodges and comes off.
09:03And I have hit myself in the face with these before.
09:05So now I never take the nut completely off until it's been dislodged on the splines.
09:09So give it a good wiggle, a bit of tapping.
09:13There we go.
09:16Saved myself a broken nose.
09:18So I've gone for a slightly motorsport inspired steering wheel here
09:25because everything else around this car is pretty much in that vein.
09:29The yellow stripe here on the top of the steering wheel is just so that
09:32if you are racing this thing round a track and you've got handfuls of opposite lock,
09:36you've got a very quick visual reference as to where the top dead centre of your steering wheel is,
09:40halfway through a corner.
09:42It's quite a useful thing to have.
09:47Right, Dave.
09:49And there we go.
09:50That's that job done.
09:56Colour coding the details of this car will give it a stronger look in any ad,
10:00so the roof's going black to match the wheels and spoiler.
10:03The secret good paint works always all about the preparation.
10:08So I'm just keying up the surface with a little bit of rubbing compound
10:12and a bit of abrasive cloth just to give it a kind of roughed up surface for the paint to key to.
10:19I'm keeping the spend small.
10:21These rattle cans of satin paint are just £10 each.
10:28The trick is to not go over the same bit too much,
10:31otherwise it builds up and you get runs,
10:33so it's a case of doing lots of light coats.
10:43Well, it's already looking loads better.
10:47Next, have we done enough to find this car a buyer?
10:51Interested?
10:52And when I squeeze into a tiny Italian classic...
10:56Whoa! Look at this!
10:58I discovered that size really does matter.
11:02Stop, stop, stop!
11:04I might need to borrow some tools, boys.
11:06Our mission for Haaland is to turn a tired old Mazda of £200
11:11into one of the most iconic Japanese sports cars ever made.
11:14My dream car is the Nissan Skyline.
11:17But with over 400,000 early MX-5s built, the second-air market is flooded with cheap options.
11:25I advertised it on a website for track day fans and Cathy gave me a call.
11:29This is the little car.
11:30She's come down to see it with her friend, Amy.
11:32It doesn't strike me as the kind of car that you would buy though, Cathy.
11:41Is it for you?
11:42No, we're actually looking at it for a friend's son.
11:44Are you?
11:45Yeah.
11:46First car?
11:47First car, track car type thing.
11:49Perfect.
11:50I mean, what a great little thing to come play on the track with.
11:52You like it, do you, Amy?
11:53Yeah, I love it.
11:54Yeah.
11:55Advertised it for £500.
11:57Interested?
11:58Erm, I was thinking more of the region of about £350.
12:02I can't let it go for £350.
12:05Let's be nice, shall we?
12:06I'll let it go for £400.
12:09Yeah, I could go to £400.
12:10Just bought yourself a nice car.
12:12Well done you, Amy.
12:13Top job.
12:15I'm pleased to get that sound, but there's still a tiny amount to trade up from.
12:19I need to find a vehicle I can buy with our £3,000.
12:22Add value and then sell on for a profit.
12:28The biggest profits are often in bold ideas.
12:31So I always keep my eyes and ears open for new trends.
12:34I'm on my way to look at an unusual vehicle.
12:38Last week I was in London when I got myself a coffee from one of these little coffee vans.
12:43They look like a tuk-tuk.
12:45So it got me thinking about buying one.
12:47Hello there, you must be Den.
12:57Hello there.
12:58How are you? I'm Mike.
12:59How are you?
13:00I'm alright. Very nice to meet you.
13:02Carl, what a great place to come and visit.
13:04We've got more apes than anyone in England.
13:06Have you really?
13:07This one's really caught my eye.
13:08That little apé there, that is beautiful.
13:10We've just finished restoring that.
13:12We found that in a French bakery.
13:13No way.
13:14Did you really?
13:15It's an absolute wreck.
13:16And we've restored it completely.
13:17And what would that sell for?
13:19Around about £15,000.
13:21What?
13:22Fully restored.
13:23£15,000.
13:24God.
13:25And what about these?
13:26Something like this.
13:27How much do these run at?
13:28Well these are our basic van.
13:30They start at £7,000.
13:31Are you kidding?
13:32No, I'm not kidding.
13:33Piaggio have built everything from trains to aircraft.
13:37Their famous three-wheelers have been in continuous production since 1948.
13:41They're powered by 436cc diesel or 125cc petrol engine.
13:47Then makes a good living out of converting them into characterful promotional vehicles.
13:52Well I haven't got £15,000 to spend and I haven't got £7,000 to spend.
13:56I'm after something just a little bit cheaper.
13:58Have you got anything at all?
13:59I've got something a little bit different.
14:00It's not what we normally do now.
14:02It's called the Ape 50.
14:04So where is it then?
14:05Show us this little Ape.
14:07It's behind you.
14:09Oh my God.
14:10Seriously?
14:11How have you got a vehicle down the side of your building?
14:14That's how small that is.
14:15They're designed for the really narrow streets of Italy.
14:18It's in brown.
14:19It's Tuscan brown.
14:21There's a big door missing here.
14:23The door's inside the hole.
14:24How does it open up then?
14:25There's a latch here, so it's pretty straight forward.
14:28And then this pops up on a gas strike.
14:31Whoa!
14:32Well that's alright isn't it?
14:33That's a little bit of an improvement.
14:35Copper worktop.
14:36Nice.
14:37Eight bottle wine rack.
14:38I like that.
14:39And this crate here is for your bar snacks.
14:42Lovely.
14:43Do you want to drive it?
14:44Can I?
14:45Yeah certainly.
14:46Ha ha ha.
14:47It's like nothing else I've ever driven.
14:48Ha ha ha.
14:49It's like nothing else I've ever driven.
14:51Ha ha ha.
14:52Ha ha ha.
14:53It's like nothing else I've ever driven.
15:03The steering, it turns, well look it turns like this.
15:07It turns on a sixpence.
15:08That is wicked actually.
15:10It turns round at it's own length.
15:11And I gather it does that because of what then said about those narrow Italian streets.
15:22This little 50cc Ape is the smallest Tuk Tuk Piaggio made.
15:27It's already been converted into a wine bar but it's basic layout could work for any business.
15:32I think there could be a profit in it if I can get it for the right price.
15:42So is it worth me buying?
15:45It's a tough one.
15:46But I reckon it could be worth a couple of grand you know.
15:49How was it?
16:04Yeah I mean it's a, it's an experience isn't it?
16:07I mean they're great fun little things to have but just need so much work and attention.
16:11But I'll give you two grand for it.
16:13Two and a half thousand.
16:14Come and then.
16:15Have a deal with me.
16:16Two grand.
16:17Two and a half.
16:18Two grand.
16:19Two grand.
16:20That's all it's worth.
16:21Because it just, I mean look I can see what you sell.
16:23You sell all this nice stuff and it doesn't fit with your business does it?
16:26I'm using a technique called mirroring.
16:28I'm saying back to them what he already told me before.
16:31Reinforcing the idea that this Ape isn't right for his business.
16:35So he should sell it to me.
16:36I'll give you two grand.
16:37I'll take it away right now.
16:38Come and then.
16:43Top man.
16:44Well done then.
16:48All right then boys.
16:49Gently as she goes.
16:50Well a nappe isn't the biggest vehicle in the world.
16:52But I did get the biggest fan I could possibly find.
16:55Knowing full well that it would fit into the back comfortably.
17:00Stop, stop, stop.
17:01I just didn't account for a roof rack.
17:03Shut the doors.
17:04I'll put a bit of string round the back.
17:06I might need to borrow some tools boys.
17:10That's it.
17:11It's off.
17:12Yes.
17:13Hallelujah.
17:14This tuck tuck has potential.
17:20But at the moment the Tuscan brown paint is letting it down.
17:28I need a plan for a good value transformation.
17:29On the journey back I've been thinking about what to do with a little Ape.
17:34What I need is something that's quick, fast, cheap and effective.
17:38Because the paint work on the thing is quite tatty.
17:41One of the new processes that's out there on the market is this plastic spray paint.
17:58It's good.
18:00It comes in loads of different retro colours.
18:02It's cheap.
18:10Fella? What's this? This is what I bought you. It's brand new. What am I supposed to do with that?
18:21I have bought you a van but not this one. What I've bought you is this van. That's a tuk-tuk,
18:29Mike. It's lovely. Have a look. Yeah, what do you think? It looks like it's been sat under a tree
18:35for 20 years. I think it's been parked outside somebody's business for the past 20 years,
18:39selling drinks out the back of it. And that's what we want to make out of it? Some kind of
18:42business? I think so, yeah. I think we keep it broad, keep it open. Well, okay. I mean, I like
18:48that idea but look at the state of it. It's not in the best condition. That, to me, screams out a lot
18:53of work. Well, there's this new process out there. It's called plastic coating. Yeah, which I love the
18:58sound of. I've heard of that stuff. It does sound great. So, I like that idea. What about the colour?
19:02What do you think? I think the best thing to do with this is to do it in a nice contemporary colour
19:07and today that's going to be grey. It's going to look amazing when it's done.
19:10It will do. I can already see, actually, you know, sitting at a festival or some kind of event.
19:15I think it will look great. So, I like it. Well, I wasn't expecting that. A tuk-tuk. I'm really on
19:20board, though, with Mike's idea. Get it looking as good as we can, as fast as we can, keep the market
19:24broad and offer it for sale as a backdrop for a business. Well, I always like to get out of the
19:32workshop and to learn about something new. And today, I'm on my way down to see exactly
19:36how this plastic coating process works. The tuk-tuk left yesterday ahead of me, so the preparation
19:42is now well underway. Plastic coating's a pretty new idea and the owner, Sam, is one of the first
19:50to offer the service nearby. He's treated his own car, which is a fetching shade of minty green.
19:56Sam. Hey. How you doing, mate? Elvis, just like on the phone. Yeah, good, thanks, Jeff.
20:00This is it, I guess, is it? Yep, this is it. This is the plastic coating. You can actually
20:04see it looks different and even feel it's a little bit different. I mean, what exactly
20:08is it? It is like rubber-based. It will come out of a spray gun. You don't need to do as
20:14much prep work. As long as the bodywork and the actual car itself is clean, you can pretty
20:19much just paint it straight on. You know, once you get bored of it, you peel it off. You peel
20:23it off? Literally, you can just peel it straight off. That's amazing. You just rub the edge like
20:27so, and then you just literally pick it through here like this. Wow. And it just comes all
20:30the way off. I mean, what about cost? For a traditional respray, you would be looking
20:34around about £1,500 for the Tuk-Tuk. Okay. And we've agreed a price for the Tuk-Tuk
20:39of £700 for what we're doing. So... Bargain? Yeah, I think so.
20:47Sam's primered the Tuk-Tuk in light grey. The top coat Mike chose is a darker shade of grey,
20:52grey, and it's the current Envo colour. The whole process takes a few hours.
20:58Yeah. It's looking really good. If it was a respray, it would take around three times
21:04as long and cost at least double. Sam will drop it back at the workshop tomorrow.
21:09The Tuk-Tuk's back the following morning, and it's quite a sight. What a transformation.
21:23Sam's done a great job with this, and I think this fresh plastic coat over the top has taken
21:27years off it. We could double our money on this if we get the pitch right. Mike's aiming
21:34to maximise the cute factor, so he's bought some white wall tyres. At £40 each, these
21:39give a great period look.
21:46I had this red Ape decal made up at a local vinyl suppliers for a tenner. So far, this
21:51Tuk-Tuk owes us £2,850. Lovely. I give the rear a polish, so I want to make it look good.
21:59And I'm done.
22:03Is that a little Tuk-Tuk?
22:05Almost unrecognisable.
22:06Seriously.
22:07Incredible.
22:08Oh, look how much work you've done in the back.
22:10I can already imagine someone selling orange juice, flowers, whatever they want out of that.
22:14I can't wait to get a picture of this and get it out there on the internet.
22:17Yeah, yeah. Okay. Agree.
22:19I've written an ad emphasising its broad appeal and targeted the small business world by posting
22:25on websites catering to entrepreneurs.
22:32Next, I struggle to get Elvis on board as I target the grey pound.
22:37Isn't that cool?
22:39It's old.
22:41And we try to seal the deal on a batch of two-wheelers.
22:45Absolutely wicked, yeah.
22:50We've updated a tired old three-wheeler.
22:53Is that our little Tuk-Tuk?
22:55So we can make Harland's dream of a skyline come true.
22:59It was always the hero car in the films. It was always the best car in the games.
23:03I've been sweating on a deal and I've just had some news.
23:07All right, Nick.
23:08I've just had Den on the phone, the guy we got the Tuk-Tuk off.
23:11Oh, yeah?
23:12He said he's got a customer who wants one in exactly our spec.
23:14No way.
23:15He says he can return us four grand.
23:19Oh, I don't know. What do you reckon? I was expecting more than that.
23:22You don't think we should hang on?
23:23Well, we could hang on, but it could sit around for a while or we could just take the money and run.
23:28Well, I suppose it does get us going, doesn't it?
23:31Yeah.
23:32All right, let's do it.
23:33So you're making a nice cup of tea.
23:35Yeah.
23:36We could afford to have some cake now as well.
23:40I could pull our loan out now, but I'm going to leave it in for as long as I can to build the biggest possible profit.
23:46And next, I'm looking at a deal which couldn't be more different to the Tuk-Tuk.
23:51A big old classic Rover.
23:56I've been in contact with a guy called Chris.
23:58He's selling a rare Rover for four grand.
24:01Chris happens to have an old 1956 Rover P4.
24:07A classic British car.
24:09Chris did mention there's a brake issue which he doesn't have time to fix.
24:13Music to my ears as I can drive a hard bargain when a car has a fault.
24:18And if it's a straightforward fix, we can add real value.
24:22That looks brilliant, doesn't it?
24:26Sat there.
24:28Nice.
24:35Aha!
24:36Hi, Mike.
24:37You must be Chris.
24:38I am.
24:39Chris, very nice to meet you.
24:40Nice to meet you too.
24:41Chris, this is lovely.
24:42Turning up here with this period property and this old 75 part that's under the carriage.
24:47So what can you tell me about it?
24:48It's a 1956 Rover 75.
24:512.2 engine.
24:52Very, very nice car.
24:54Can I have a look under the bonnet?
24:56Please do.
24:57Lift up that Viking's head.
24:58It's brilliant, that isn't it?
25:00It looks fantastic, doesn't it?
25:02Inner wings are really nice and solid.
25:04A lot of it is period and original.
25:07It really is.
25:08They call it a Rover 75 because they said it was like 75 horsepower.
25:13But most people say they've got 80 horsepower.
25:15Yeah, reading the paperwork, it looks like 80 brake horse.
25:18What's it like inside?
25:19Yeah, nice inside.
25:21Wonderful.
25:22Look at that lever in Syria.
25:24It's like a gentleman's club, isn't it?
25:25Period dashboard.
25:27It's so charming.
25:28Do you mind if I start her up?
25:29No, help yourself.
25:30Wow, Chris.
25:34Beautiful.
25:35Okay, so when you say the brakes, how bad are they?
25:38They're really just one took apart, cleaned and put back together.
25:41Is it safe for me to drive?
25:42Yeah, it'll be fine for you to drive, but just please be careful with the brakes.
25:46Right, okay.
25:47So can I take it for a test drive?
25:48Feel free.
25:49Wonderful.
26:00Oh, and brake.
26:07Utterly charming.
26:19I mean, just charming.
26:21I love it.
26:22I absolutely love it.
26:23As for the brakes, well, the brakes, when I apply them, like now, we're still going,
26:31we're still going, we're still going, we're still going, and we're still going.
26:36With around 350 Rovers 75s left in the UK, they're rare and sought after.
26:42I want this one, and I'm using the brake issue as a negotiating tool.
26:46So I reckon if I can get the car for around four grand, there could be a nice decent profit in it.
27:01So how did you get on?
27:02I loved it.
27:03Other than the fact, yeah, the brakes need a dressing, but wonderful.
27:07What a charming car.
27:09Would you take three and a half grand for it?
27:11It'd need to be a bit more than that.
27:13What about 39?
27:14If you make it 38, you've got yourself a deal.
27:16Well, I have a deal.
27:17Lovely.
27:18Thank you very much, Chris.
27:19I'm delighted with that.
27:20Brilliant.
27:23I know the drum brake system on this car needs regular maintenance and adjustment,
27:27so I'm betting on that being the problem.
27:30The rest of the car is mint, and I bought it under market price.
27:33So I reckon once it's fixed, it might be worth over five grand.
27:37All right, mate.
27:38Look what I've got for you.
27:39What is that?
27:40That, my son, is a 1956 Rover P4 or Rover 75.
27:53Isn't that cool?
27:54Uh, it's old.
27:55Of course it's old.
27:56Yeah, it's 1956.
27:57And it's easy to work on, because there's only a few little things we need to do to
28:02it.
28:03Namely, the brakes.
28:04It's an old car, and the brakes are old, so they're stuck in 1956.
28:08So we need to just get the brakes working efficiently.
28:11Great.
28:12I mean, it feels like it belongs in a museum.
28:14Doesn't fill me with excitement, if I'm really honest, but let's get it up in the air.
28:18Let's have a look, because if that's what it needs, that's what it needs.
28:21Well, I was a bit taken aback by Elvis.
28:24Clearly not a fan of really old cars, but he doesn't have to like it.
28:27He just has to trust my gut feeling that there's a profit to be had from the classic Rover.
28:36First thing I'm going to do is degrease the whole mechanism with brake cleaner.
28:40So, on the back of the drum here, there's an adjuster, and you can see that if I rotate
28:51the spanner up and down, it moves the brake shoes in and out, and that gives us the opportunity
28:56to control the amount of travel on the brake pedal when the driver hits the brakes between
29:00the frictional surfaces on the shoe here, making contact with the rotating drum.
29:04So I'm hoping that by making a small adjustment to the brake shoes position, bringing the brake
29:08shoes closer to the drum, it'll transform the effectiveness of the whole system.
29:16The drum fits back over the shoes.
29:18I check the adjustment one more time, and that's job done.
29:22Perfect.
29:28Each wheel took me about an hour, and the brake rebuild cost me nothing in parts, which is a real result.
29:33Even though it's now a rare car, it's a well-known brand and model.
29:36So Mike's chosen to advertise it on a mainstream classic car website, to get it in front of
29:40as many eyes as possible, as quickly as possible.
29:44Taking in the year and condition, I carefully judged the pricing of our Rover in relation
29:48to the handful that's out there on the market.
29:51Attractively pitched at £5,500, it generated a few phone calls straight away.
29:56Hugh has come to view.
29:58Your old Rover then, you had that how many years ago?
30:04I sold it in the 90s.
30:061990s, that's a long time ago.
30:09So this is my 75, what do you think?
30:12I think it's super for 63 years old.
30:15It's amazing, isn't it?
30:16I wish I could have lasted as long as that, in that condition.
30:19So what's this you're clutching on to?
30:22Now this is my car.
30:23Oh, this is your own car?
30:24Yes, the one I had in the 80s.
30:26That's lovely.
30:27So now you're in the market for a nice Rover again.
30:30Yes.
30:31So this one, I've advertised it at £5,500, which I thought was a really reasonable price.
30:37What do you think?
30:38I think you're a bit over the top.
30:40Do you?
30:41And I think you should be £5,250.
30:44£5,250?
30:45Yeah.
30:46If you put another £50 on top of that, call it £5,300.
30:49Car's yours?
30:50Go on.
30:51There we are.
30:52That's it.
30:53Shore Rover, sir.
30:54You got your old car back.
30:55Well done.
30:56That's right, yes.
30:57And it'll be used every Sunday.
30:58Lovely.
30:59I remembered to keep off the roads in Teesside on Sundays then.
31:02No, it's Northumberland.
31:03So the Skyline Fund is slowly building and I'm leaving our £3,000 loan in the pot because
31:12my Tuk Tuk contact Den has just been in touch with an interesting offer.
31:17You like motorbikes, don't you?
31:19I do.
31:20You're going to like these.
31:21Look at this.
31:22These are little Honda Navis.
31:24They're 110cc little commuter bikes.
31:27Brand new, they are.
31:28They look like scooters.
31:29Nice.
31:30You know the fella Den that we got the Tuk Tuk off?
31:32Yeah.
31:33He bought a Tuk Tuk over in a sea container, packed eight of these bikes around it and
31:37now he just wants to offload all eight and he's asked me if I'm interested.
31:41Eight of them?
31:42Hey, how much?
31:43He wants six grand for the lot so that only works out, what, 750 quid a bike.
31:47It's cheap, isn't it?
31:48We could sell those for over a grand, couldn't we?
31:50Yeah, I reckon.
31:51That'd be like a 25% markup immediately.
31:53Yeah, I mean they're brand new.
31:55Shall we go for it?
31:56I love it.
31:57Let me send him back a text right now.
31:58I Den.
31:59We.
32:00Are.
32:01Both.
32:02In.
32:03Sent.
32:04Lovely.
32:05I've never bought eight motorbikes before but we just have.
32:09Me neither.
32:10I've been a scooter fan since I was a teenager.
32:15And I've built and ridden them my whole life.
32:19So now I'm keen to see what my latest scooter bike looks and rides like.
32:26The Navi bikes have arrived.
32:28One is already road legal so I'm straight out to test it.
32:33While Elvis gives the other seven a check over.
32:40Well this really is a simple little bike.
32:42It's just twist and go.
32:44It's great fun, right Lyle?
32:46It handles brilliantly and is really comfortable and well balanced.
32:50What I like about it most of all is the seating position.
32:53I'm straddled across this petrol tank so it feels a bit like a motorbike.
32:57But strictly speaking it's a scooter.
33:07Well what do you reckon?
33:08Absolutely wicked yeah.
33:09I reckon we can get a gram for these easy.
33:11I mean I reckon maybe even more because I've been through all of them while you've been out.
33:15Nothing wrong with any of them.
33:16They're perfect.
33:17I reckon we'd get these sold no problem.
33:19Brilliant.
33:20These bikes aren't usually imported into the UK so people don't know them.
33:24I've often found the best way to convince someone to buy is to show them off in the flesh.
33:33I'm off to the home of the British Grand Prix where pit lane bikes are all the rage.
33:38I'm open to snag a few well-heeled punters.
33:47I've got four bikes on display and four in the back of my van.
33:53Next, thousands of motorsport fans are flooding in as I try hard to kickstart some sales.
34:00And the search for a suitable skyline begins.
34:03It's had a little bit of minor body damage in the past.
34:05We're on a trading journey to help photographer and gamer Harlan turning virtual dream into an on the road reality.
34:16I'm going to do it for you.
34:17I'm going to take this away and I'm going to get you your Nissan Skyline.
34:21We've had to work hard from the start.
34:23I can't let it go for 350.
34:26Let's be nice, shall we?
34:28Now we're in deep.
34:29I've spent almost their entire dream car fund on eight motorbikes.
34:34I'm at Silverstone Race Circuit trying to sell them as pit lane bikes.
34:38I can clear a four grand profit if I can sell each one for £1,250.
34:45If you want to fire one up and go up and down the paddock to see if it's okay, feel free.
34:49There you go. Lovely.
34:54Nice one.
34:57Yeah, he's taking it for a fair old test drive, which is a bit worrying.
35:04Here he is. Mind yourself.
35:06Come on in.
35:08Let's turn that off.
35:10You want one? I'll take it.
35:11Lovely. Brilliant.
35:12Well done. Yeah, nice one.
35:14Result. I got a sale.
35:15And the Navi is on its way to a new home.
35:19Pretty soon, there's a real buzz around the bikes.
35:22If you're interested, just let me know.
35:23But they will go quickly.
35:26I'm using that as a sales technique with passers-by.
35:2912.50, Dale.
35:30Yeah. All right, I'll think about it. I'll come back.
35:32Yeah, come back. They'll be gone in half hour.
35:34Emphasising the need to act fast.
35:37Helping to focus their minds on a decision.
35:40Okay, I'll have one.
35:42You want a black one?
35:44Done.
35:45Another one? Sold.
35:46Yes, another Navi finds a home.
35:48I'm enjoying this.
35:51I definitely chose the right place.
35:54All the bikes sold.
35:55Our dream car fund is now just over £10,000.
36:01At long last, it's time to repay ourselves the £3,000 loan we put in at the start of this journey.
36:07The £7,000 balance might be enough for Haaland's dream car.
36:11And I've just spotted one for sale.
36:14A guy called Dylan has a Japanese import R33 Skyline.
36:17He bought at auction in Japan.
36:19It's all UK legal and he's asking £7,500 for it.
36:22Over the years, I've learnt a lot of people can advertise their cars way over their actual value.
36:27So I called him and I said, would you be prepared to negotiate?
36:31Guess what?
36:32He said yes.
36:37That's lovely.
36:39Dylan.
36:40Hey, mate.
36:41Very nice to meet you.
36:42Nice to meet you.
36:43How are you?
36:44I'm good, thanks.
36:45Excellent.
36:46What a great looking car.
36:47Sounded lovely as well as you come round the corner.
36:48Let me just turn it off.
36:49It's ticking over nicely, isn't it?
36:50Yeah, it drives smooth.
36:51Drives very well.
36:53Yeah, it's nice.
36:54On the rear, the four lights.
36:56Looks good.
36:57Now, you said you got the auction report.
36:59Is this the paperwork here?
37:00Yeah, I've got it in the bag.
37:01The interior looks good.
37:02Yeah.
37:03Looks nice, doesn't it?
37:04Yeah, it's all good.
37:05No holes in the dashboard.
37:06All nice, straight, clean and tidy.
37:07Yeah, everything works as well.
37:09All the windows, electronics.
37:10Nice.
37:11Which one is it?
37:12Let me just pop it out for you.
37:13It's this one here.
37:15Lovely.
37:16Now, I bought a few cars from Japanese auctions and it's a really fun thing to do.
37:21And I can see this one's an RA, which means it's had a little bit of minor body damage in the past.
37:25That's right.
37:26But clearly, wherever that was, it's been done well.
37:29I see a lot of Japanese imports that are bought at auction and generally they're very good news
37:33because they are well-careful cars and they represent really good value for money.
37:37However, if you're going to buy one, make sure it's got a full auction report.
37:41And if you can't read it, then get it translated because if you buy a bad one, it can be costly.
37:48Aha.
37:49Look at that.
37:50It's got a strut brace.
37:51Yeah, it's got the strut brace.
37:52It's got the aircone filter.
37:53It's RB25 DET, so 2.5 turbo.
37:56Good.
37:57Well, listen, I like it.
37:58Any chance I can go and feel what it's like out on the road?
38:01Yeah, of course.
38:02Go for it.
38:11Shit.
38:18Although it's only got one single turbo, this car, it's still got some mighty power.
38:22It really has and it delivers it beautifully.
38:34I like it.
38:35I do, I like it.
38:36It's very good.
38:37Inside here, the cockpit, it's not a bad place to be at all.
38:40Very simple.
38:41Nicely laid out as well.
38:43Everything seems to be functional and everything is working, which is really nice.
38:48Even got air conditioning.
38:53So the question is, is this the right car for Haaland?
38:56Well, I think it'd be absolutely over the moon with it.
39:00If I can go back and get it to seven grand, then I think I've just found Haaland's dream car.
39:10How'd it go?
39:11Yeah, good.
39:12Nice car.
39:13It's fast.
39:14It's smooth.
39:15I love the suspension.
39:16It's got good grip.
39:17The engine's got good power.
39:18I'd like to buy it.
39:19You want how much?
39:20Um, so it's up for 7,500.
39:21The most I can stretch to is seven grand.
39:22Right.
39:23Okay.
39:24Do you reckon you could do that?
39:25Seven grand.
39:26I could pay you right now in cash.
39:27Okay.
39:28Yeah.
39:29Let's do it.
39:30Let's go ahead and do it.
39:31Thank you very much.
39:32No problem.
39:33What a top guy.
39:34Lovely.
39:35Yeah.
39:36Thank you very much.
39:37I like that deal.
39:38It's a cracking deal and I can't wait to show Elvis as somebody from the video gaming generation
39:45is going to love this too.
39:47Right.
39:48It's a cracking deal and I can't wait to show Elvis as somebody from the video gaming generation
39:55is going to love this too.
39:57Right.
39:58We're off to meet Harlan and Elvis is behind the wheel.
40:12The destination is London for an early evening, high performance car event.
40:17It's good, isn't it?
40:18Look at that face of yours.
40:20I've never seen you so happy.
40:22My goodness.
40:23It's lots of potent.
40:24It has, isn't it?
40:25Look at all the noises it makes, the gulps, the pops, the whistles.
40:28These are a fantastic car and highly collectible.
40:31Yeah.
40:32Yeah.
40:33Well, if he's grown up anything like me, loving video games and anything Japanese,
40:36he's going to fall in love with this immediately.
40:37Yeah, of course he is.
40:40Whoa.
40:45I've arranged to meet Harlan in the car park where he's checking out the metal.
40:48He doesn't know that the next car rolling in will be his.
40:55Yeah.
40:56Hello, Mike.
40:57Harlan, how are you?
40:58I'm very well.
40:59How are you, mate?
41:00Excellent.
41:01Yeah, I'm very good.
41:02I thought if there's supercars in the car park, you'll be hanging around them.
41:04I know.
41:05I sniff them out.
41:06So, you know, I asked you here for a reason.
41:07You excited?
41:08Very excited.
41:09Are you?
41:10My heart's been like this all day.
41:11Has it really?

41:13It's for weeks because I've been working and Elvis has been working so hard to try and
41:19get what you want.
41:20And Elvis is going to come and join us right now in something I hope you'll be delighted
41:26with.
41:27No way.
41:28Because Harlan, this is your dream car.
41:32Oh, my God.
41:33Oh, you're shaking.
41:34Oh, my God.
41:35Don't have a heart attack on me.
41:36Whatever you do.
41:37Are you joking, Ryan?
41:38No, I'm not joking.
41:39And this is Elvis.
41:40How are you doing, mate?

41:42How are you, mate?
41:43Oh, my God, dude.
41:44What do you think?
41:45Yeah.
41:46It's an R33.
41:47This is your Nissan Skyline.
41:52You wanted a 33 and we got you a 33.
41:55Can't believe it.
41:56What was it then about this particular one that you love so much?
42:01It's the rear end.
42:02Really?
42:03Yeah.
42:04Come and have a look at it.
42:05Is that the rear end you were looking for?
42:06I'll tell you.
42:07I look at this and it takes me back to when I was a little kid, sat on my computer playing
42:13me video games.
42:14It just takes me back.
42:15It just takes me back.
42:16It's something that I've wanted for so, so long.
42:19So long.
42:20Well, this is reality now.
42:22It really is your car.
42:23Come and have a sit inside it.
42:24I'll tell you what.
42:25Everyone else is going to be staring at the back of it now because you'll be off into
42:28the distance.
42:31It's a little bit different to that MX-5 you left with us.
42:34Speechless.
42:35Genuinely.
42:36Genuinely speechless.
42:37Harlan, this is your dream car.
42:38You're a pair of legends.

42:53And thanks, Elvis.
42:54Yet again.
42:55We managed to pull it off.
42:56Well, when somebody loves a car that much, all that effort was definitely worthwhile.
