00:00Sure. And just telling to you, Spencer, I mean, President Barack Obama, the former president, generally refrains, doesn't he, from criticizing White House policies.
00:10And he's he's maintained that on the whole. There have been some exceptions, but that's sort of is that is that what you'd like to see President Biden sort of doing or rather not doing?
00:19Yes. And I would say in particular, if you are going to speak out, and this is true of President Obama when he has spoken out against President Trump or candidate Trump when he was still running, it has been about preserving democracy, not to criticize him on particular policies.
00:39And I think that's a very important distinction to me, by far, the most important issue the United States faces right now is what kind of country are we going to be?
00:49And this has nothing to do with whether you're a Republican, a Democrat, a member of any other party or an independent.
00:56There are certain fundamental principles. This is, you know, if I may refer to my own book, as you kindly did, Patriots of Two Nations.
01:03What I was talking about there is that people can be very patriotic to the United States and deeply disagree with each other because they, in effect, live in two different nations.
01:11They have two different visions of what the United States should be. It's legitimate to debate that.
01:16Now, if you believe in democracy at a certain point, you feel like you have to draw a line and say, look, we can disagree about what kind of democracy we should have.
01:26But I cannot abide the thought that we're not going to have a democracy at all.
