President Trump Calls For Europe To 'Get Smart' On Immigration, Praises Italy's Meloni

In his Oval Office meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President Trump called on Europe to reform its immigration policies.

00:00Thank you. Prime Minister Milley just said, we want to make Europe great again, and we want to do it together, together to be United States.

00:07Sure, West.

00:08Did you, I guess, that's what you said, Mr. Prime Minister, how are you going to do that?

00:14And are you looking to do it, to counter China?

00:17Who is really trying to gather influence against the United States with the help of a storm?

00:24I hope that Europe is going to be great again.

00:27And Europe has gone through a lot of problems, and a lot of it's having to do with immigration.

00:32And I'm not a big fan of Europe and what they've done with immigration at all.

00:37And I think they've got to get smart, because Europe is being very badly hurt by what they've done with immigration.

00:43Now, I'll say this, that the Prime Minister has taken a very tough stand on immigration.

00:50And I commented to her before, I said, I wish more people would be like you, having to do with that subject.

00:55But they're not.

00:58Europe is very important to me.

01:00Europe is very important to the world.

01:02I want Europe to do very well.

01:03I think they have to get a lot smarter on immigration.

01:07But we are beginning to do it, doing it.

01:09You've seen, you will see now the policies of the European Union in the last, let's say, two and a half years have been changing.

01:16At the beginning, we were talking only about how we were redistributing illegal migrants coming to Italy.

01:23Now, we are talking mainly about how to stop illegal migration, work with the countries of origin and transit, and to return people.

01:32The European Commission just did the new rules about repatriations and things like that.

01:39So, things are changing.

01:41Thanks also to the example that Italy brought in lowering the rates of illegal migration.

01:49So, we are working now together.

01:52So, I'm optimistic on that.

01:54I hope so.
