00:01A worker at a Home Depot in Florida was bitten and attacked by a spider monkey that escaped from its owner's car in the parking lot there. WPTV has the story. Take a listen.
00:19You might call it a bad day on the job. Only in Okeechobee, Florida. Let me put that there, okay? Marilyn Howard calls it a lesson. You ought to see that, baby. It was like here. I mean, it was fast. Let's set the scene. Marilyn says it all started as a normal Monday. She was at her job at the local Home Depot outside taking a smoking break. Cigarette in hand, she looked over and spotted a spider monkey. I reached down and she reached up and grabbed my hand so gentle and so cute. You know, she had her little clothes on her.
00:49Her diaper, whatever that is. I seen the leash and I said, okay, you got away from your owner. Let's get it because she's not allowed to go in the store. For Marilyn, it was an instant connection. And then when it grabbed my hand, I just fell in love, you know, because I love animals. But suddenly fun turned into fear. At that time, the sliding glass door opened, freaked her out. Came up, she grabbed me here. She had my hair like this and then she launched off my head inside the door. Marilyn wasn't backing down. At this point, she says she wanted to protect the customers inside the store.
01:19If you stay dominant, don't let them know that you scare. After a fight, she was able to grab back a hold of the spider monkey, but her face and body paid the price. I cried for the first 24 hours. I'm not going to lie. Vanity, God forgive me, but I'm getting over it. It'll go away. Vitamin B, 22,000 I use. I'll be fine.
01:37Thank you. Investigators say the monkey somehow escaped after being left in a car in the parking lot. The monkey's owner was shopping inside at the time of the incident. We tried to track her down, but couldn't reach her. We also reached out to FWC and they are investigating.
01:54Vanity. I'll tell you, God forbid. I know it. It's wrong. Vanity's got the best of me. I know I look like a suitcase right now with bleach blonde hair, but I'll tell you when that thing gave me these two little scratches on my face, I realized I probably look like Quasimodo or something like that.
02:15That's what she's worried about. I know I look terrible. Did you see her before the monkey attack? Yeah, exactly. Exactly. My point.
02:22You barely noticed the monkey attack, really. Yeah, exactly. I'll tell you what. 22,000 BTUs of vitamin E, I'm going to be fine. It's going to heal up. No problem. The leather face that I have probably is stuck with that. Only in Ocachihuahua, Florida, wherever the hell I am.
02:40Did she try and bring the monkey in the store? No, the monkey jumped off of her and ran in the store.
02:47She said, I've got to protect Home Depot. She's got to protect the Depot. I was charged with protecting the Depot. I knew I was the one. I'll tell you, because if you keep your dominance up with the animals, if you keep your dominance up, then you show them who's boss.
03:04But the second you back down, you got a lot of problems. But I'll tell you, I just grabbed that little monkey.
03:11I tell you, I'm getting up on my arms and stuff.
03:16Boy, I'm getting excited just thinking about it. But bit me, scratch my face, you know, vanity.
03:21And it's funny she spoke like she had had another experience with another monkey. She's like, you've got to show it dominance.
03:27Yes, I mean, she did. You can't back down from a spider monkey. Everybody knows it.
03:32You know, all the encounters.
03:34I'm your owner. Let's get it because she's not allowed to go in the store.
03:37For Marilyn, it was an instant connection.
03:39And then when it grabbed my hand, I just fell in love.
03:41I fell in love that.
03:41You know, because I love it.
03:42It suddenly, fun, turned into fear.
03:45At that time, the sliding glass door opened, freaked her out.
03:48I've got to save the Depot.
03:50She had my hair like this, and then she lounged off my head inside the door.
03:55Marilyn wasn't backing down.
03:57At this point, she says she wanted to protect the customers inside the store.
04:01If you stay dominant, don't let them know that you're scared.
04:03After a fight, she was able to grab back a hold of the spider monkey, but her face and body paid the price.
04:09I cried for the first 24 hours.
04:11I'm not going to lie, vanity, God forgive me.
04:13But I'm getting over it.
04:14It'll go away.
04:15Vitamin B, your 22,000 I use, I'll be fine.
04:18Jesus, she's crazy.
04:20Got to show dominance.
04:27Scratched your guy getter, didn't it?
04:29It really did.
04:30Your guy getter!
04:33Even though my lips look like a butthole.
04:37They sure do.
04:39These two tiny scratches on my face are really going to do me in.
04:44Luckily, I am loaded to the gills with vitamin E.
04:48I rubbed that stuff all over my skin, my neck, my arms, my boobs.
04:55That's really helped her.
04:57Yeah.
04:58The sun, you know, really gets you.
05:01The sun and smoking.
05:04Oh, man.
05:05The sun and smoking.
05:06Well, luckily the, you know, they got the monkey, didn't cause any more damage, and that woman
05:13should be fine.
05:14Hopefully her guy getter will feel normal.
05:18I don't know.
05:19I don't know if she's going to keep getting those Okeechobee men.
05:21Yeah, I don't know.
05:22I think she cleans up.
05:23I bet she cleans up in Okeechobee or whatever.
05:25You're right.
05:28She probably does.
05:29You know?
05:29It's Okeechobee.
05:30She's the 14th hottest woman in Okeechobee County.
05:32That's right.
05:33Number 14.
05:33I'm waiting for number 13 to die.
05:36She's almost out.
05:37Ugh.
05:37Hehehehehehe.
05:39Well.
