00:00All right, many Halloween fans love that the holiday is an excuse to dress up and eat candy,
00:10but why are people obsessed with Halloween haunted houses?
00:18Frank McAndrew is a professor of psychology at Knox College who has written extensively
00:22about creepiness and horror.
00:24He says the experiences provide an ideal emotional cocktail.
00:30He says they describe recreational fear as a form of play that combines the perfect mix of fear,
00:38enjoyment, and surprise, and just the right doses of these emotions appear to be addictive for many people.
00:45It's like my whole life I've never liked those things.
00:47When I was in Cub Scouts, I went to one, like when I was a little kid, and it was, I did not like it.
00:53And then I went to another one that was like some Christian haunted house,
00:58which was like, I was like, I'm sorry, what?
