00:00It was just eight days ago that two quick-fire Declan Rice free-kicks set Arsenal on their way to that unforgettable evening and a huge 3-0 win over Real Madrid.
00:13Tonight, though, here in the Santiago Bernabeu dressing room, Mikel Arteta will be quick to remind his team that the job is far from done, despite the brilliance of last week.
00:24We are down to the last eight on the road to Munich.
00:30Be super convinced. Eleven players, 60,000 people, really super convinced that we are ready to beat them. That's the mindset that I want.
00:38I don't think it matters how many times you've been through this before. These are occasions and nights to cherish.
00:46It's been 20 years since we had this type of game, and for us it's a great opportunity to build our own story, and this is what we're here for.
00:54It's a free-kick to Arsenal. A load of guys have stepped away from this. It could be Declan Rice. Rice goes round it!
01:01In order to achieve that is what we're going to meet. Our people playing every single ball with us.
01:07That is absolutely brilliant!
01:09I encourage everybody to play the game with us. Not to be there watching it, but to play the game with us.
01:14What a save! Unbelievable!
01:15Saka wriggling through. Free kick is given. Now the question is, does Declan Rice go through it again?
01:21It's right again! Oh! Incredible! This is Declan Rice's night!
01:35Luis Skelly. Oh! It's three! It's Michael Moreno! They are in dreamland here!
01:42Now it's half-time, and now we have to elevate the level again, and now we have to go to the Bernabeu and do it.
01:47It may have been Arsenal's greatest ever night at the Emirates. It may leave the holders and 15-time winners Real Madrid on the ropes, but history dictates that this tie is not over yet.
02:08And even with a three-goal advantage, second legs at the Bernabeu are a daunting prospect for anyone.
02:13Mikel Arteta named the same eleven as last week. Thomas Partey is fit to start.
02:18Real Madrid have become used to success in the Champions League. In fact, they demand it.
02:23So a quarter-final exit for the perennial winners tonight would be seen as a failure.
02:28Second leg comebacks at the Bernabeu have become a bit of a speciality for Los Blancos and Carlo Ancelotti.
02:33But is this one against a confident Arsenal side too big a mountain to climb?
02:39Well, it is set to be an absolutely huge night here at the Santiago Bernabeu. Welcome, everyone.
02:48Welcome, Arsenal Invincible, Martin Keown and two-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, Steve McManaman, whose face actually is plastered everywhere across this stadium.
02:57Arsenal, I'm going to... Martin, I'm going to start with you because after we saw what Aston Villa did last night, I wonder if that makes you more nervous about this evening or can Arsenal get the job done?
03:06Yeah, in some ways it was a dress rehearsal maybe for what we're going to see here tonight.
03:10Both home teams knowing exactly what they needed to do. Dortmund went two up in their game.
03:15So, no, I think it's going to be red hot here tonight. Arsenal need to play their game, play without fear, take the game to Real Madrid.
03:25But they have the ingredients, this Real Madrid team, to get the necessary goals that they need. So it's going to be one hell of a game, that's for sure.
03:32It really is. And I wonder if this 3-0 scoreline is actually really intriguing.
03:36Because if it was 2-0, everyone would say, oh, Real Madrid will definitely come back.
03:39But at 3-0, it means the stakes just get so much higher.
03:42Yeah.
03:43For Arsenal, the jeopardy is even greater.
03:44Yes.
03:45But for Real Madrid to mount a comeback, a remontada and get those three goals, that's exactly what is going to galvanise this stadium.
03:51Yes, the stadium will be red hot, as Martin rightly said. I just don't know whether they've got the quality, Real Madrid, when you see them.
03:58Their form's not great.
04:00Any other night, you'd probably think, oh, they've got a chance.
04:02They've got a chance because of their history and what we've seen here in previous years.
04:06But they're not playing great, have they?
04:07If you look at this form in La Liga, against Leganes, against Valencia, against Alaves the other day, against Real Sociedad in the Cup, they've laboured to victories at times.
04:16And a couple of those performances have been really poor.
04:19Last week at the Emirates, they were terrible, weren't they? Let's be honest.
04:22And Arsenal were fantastic.
04:24So, if they were playing well, you might have a little bit more confidence.
04:28But I think Arsenal will come and get a result today. I really do.
04:34Madrid are not as good as they were last year.
04:37They lost twice last year. They've lost 11 already.
04:39They've lost five in the Champions League.
04:41That's not the form of champions, even with a little bit of luck.
04:44So, I think it's a really difficult task for Madrid today.
04:47And I can't see anything but Arsenal going through. I really can't.
04:50Yeah, and the boos that you may have just heard there were the...
04:53That was from Martin Keogh.
04:54I know.
04:56That was me.
04:57Exactly.
04:58The Arsenal goalkeepers have just come up to warm up.
05:01And that is what that is all about.
05:03But it's interesting, isn't it?
05:04When we were in the taxi last night, Martin,
05:06the driver said something really interesting.
05:08He said, the gods live at the Bernabeu.
05:11Yeah.
05:12He said, the gods live at the Bernabeu.
05:13But tomorrow night, they're going to need more than the gods.
05:16Yes.
05:17And given what Maka has just said there, in terms of their form,
05:20they've lost a fifth of all of their matches this season so far.
05:24Surely.
05:25They have.
05:26Given the form that Arsenal are in and the confidence they come with.
05:28Yes, but I don't want to, you know, stand here and really talk up Real Madrid.
05:32But there's 80 goals amongst their front four.
05:34They've definitely got the skill set to do what they need to do.
05:38And when we saw the games last night and the other, you know, the other games in this competition,
05:42it was like a drain.
05:43It was like they were caught in a storm.
05:44You know, Villa were magnificent last night.
05:47But Arsenal would have taken a look at that, would have understood it.
05:50They're free up in the tie.
05:51They've got to start this game well.
05:53Almost play it in 15-minute segments.
05:55You know, keep them quiet here and go after them.
05:58Because I feel there's an issue for Real Madrid when they're out of possession.
06:01They're very passive.
06:02They don't work hard enough, the front players, to protect their defence.
06:06And the defence is not really what it used to be, Maka.
06:08Yes.
06:09As you say, five times.
06:10And that aura has gone away a little bit in the Champions League.
06:12They've lost games.
06:13So Arsenal really shouldn't have anything to fear.
06:15Go and embrace it.
06:16Love it.
06:17And take them on.
06:18Take them on.
06:19Don't let the remontada start or even get anywhere near them.
06:23And do you know what?
06:24It's going to be a huge night here at the Santiago Bernabeu.
06:27Somewhere which is quite familiar with these incredible comebacks.
06:31Just ask Manchester City and Chelsea fans.
06:33Well, Rio has been lucky enough to be here for all of them.
06:36His pitch side now with Ali.
06:38And they're going to have a little gander across the pitch.
06:40We certainly are, Richmond.
06:41Thank you very, very much.
06:43Well, big fella, we are lucky, mate.
06:46We go to some of...
06:48Well, we do it at the best stadiums up and down the country.
06:50Week in, week out.
06:51But please talk me through this.
06:54I've said on a few occasions, we came here while they were doing the refurb.
06:58And I came here as it was done.
07:01And I walked out like we're doing now.
07:03And this is probably one of the only stadiums that I've walked out and gone, wow.
07:08The LED screens that are flying everywhere.
07:11The seat, every seat in the house is a great seat.
07:14The facility is obviously the pitch.
07:16We were marveling at the pitch.
07:17The actual pitch, guys.
07:19If anyone, because you can't see the home, the pitch is actually better than the Astro
07:22turf at the side of the pitch.
07:23How does that make sense?
07:24The pitch is, honestly, it's absolutely faultless.
07:27It's fantastic.
07:28Arsenal, Rio.
07:30I mean, what a result they had last week.
07:33Incredible result.
07:34People are saying this is probably one of the few places that an upset could happen.
07:39They're losing four or five nothing.
07:40Do you see it happening?
07:41Can it happen?
07:42It can happen.
07:43We both know what football is like.
07:45The crazy stuff does happen.
07:47And being that this is a mythical type of stadium, these fans have been able to believe and have been able to fantasize because of what's gone on in the past in recent years.
07:56Because they've got games back from the death.
07:59But I just think it's a stretch too far.
08:02Three goals down.
08:03Arsenal just need to score one goal.
08:05They get a goal, then they've got to score four or five to win the game.
08:08What would the atmosphere in this place?
08:10If, say, what comes to happen for Arsenal.
08:13Madrid score in the first 10-15 minutes.
08:15I know.
08:16I hope it doesn't happen clearly.
08:17But this place would be like.
08:18If, if, if Madrid score in the first, whatever, if Madrid score first, this place will erupt.
08:27And then I want to, then you're going to see what these Arsenal players are about.
08:31Because then it's about, can you manage the situation?
08:34Can you then manage off, out of the pitch?
08:37Yeah.
08:38Manage this crowd.
08:39It's very difficult.
08:40See, I think it's really important.
08:41We shouldn't forget this as well.
08:42I think Arsenal can pose Real Madrid problems.
08:45Yeah.
08:46Saka, Martinelli and Vasquez, you know, Saka and Alaba.
08:49They've got to, they can't just sit and defend.
08:52They've got to play their own game and go and attack as well.
08:54I think there's no way you can go into this game and say,
08:56we're going to just be a sponge, soak it up, soak the push up,
08:59and just roll with the punches here.
09:01Arsenal, you're 3-0 up.
09:03You come in here.
09:04This is the moment to really go and stamp your authority in this tournament and go,
09:07listen, guys, we're not here making up numbers.
09:09We are Arsenal.
09:10We've beat you before.
09:11And we're going to come here with our knives out rather than put our shields out.
09:15Yeah.
09:16Different.
09:17Well, Resh, we're going to hand back to you.
09:18This place has changed since Rio played here.
09:21It's changed dramatically since I played here.
09:24But we're in for a great night, that's for sure.
09:26That is absolutely for sure.
09:28Ali and Rio, thank you very much.
09:30It is all about that three-goal mountain to overcome.
09:33And if there's one man who knows all too well how a three-goal lead can disappear in the blink of an eye,
09:39it is Carlo Ancelotti himself, having been, of course, on the wrong end of a famous comeback 20 years ago.
09:44But he's since masterminded some spectacular turnarounds, hasn't he?
09:48The question is, can he deliver another one tonight?
09:52Becky Ives can tell us a little bit more.
09:55Well, it's in this very dressing room that Carlo Ancelotti will be giving his final team talk,
10:01sending his squad out hoping that they can get the job done tonight.
10:05Is he coming under a little bit of pressure?
10:07Clinging on in the Champions League, second in La Liga to Barcelona by four points.
10:11But when you've got these names in your squad, there is always a chance.
10:15I sat down yesterday with both camps to find out how they're feeling ahead of this one.
10:21In this competition against this football club, that is just about as good as it will ever get.
10:28The champions of Europe have a huge amount to do here because they're 3-0 down after the first one.
10:34We did really well, we dominated many places that are so necessary to beat a team like Real Madrid.
10:40These big games are for big players. The individuals have to decide in critical moments the game.
10:46And we certainly had that and that helped a lot.
10:49Difficult game, really difficult with really bad results.
10:52We have to be honest, Arsenal of course deserve to win the game, but they scored two fantastic goals on set pieces.
10:58That's sometimes a difference at these levels in these games and he had his moments that were, to be fair to him, incredible.
11:06But we have a lot of players who can create those kind of moments too and that's important for tomorrow night, especially at our house.
11:12It's quite remarkable what they do in this stadium, in this competition and we've all witnessed it once again.
11:19A very different context and a very different situation, which I think that the team is very prepared to handle and the way we prepare the game is to come here to win it.
11:28Here, the expectation at the club for the Champions League is always a hike. I think we did really well and we want to do the same this year.
11:38More difficulties, but in the difficulties, this stadium usually really helpful for us.
11:45Goal, it's in, they've got another one! What a climax, what a comeback! It's astonishing!
11:51We can't believe it! He can't believe it! What are we seeing tonight?
11:56What does history tell you about the second leg to the Bernabeu?
11:59That is half-time. There's still so much to do, obviously, and that you have to end the ride to be in the semi-final.
12:04In order to do that, you're going to have some really beautiful moments, some very difficult moments, and you have to really enjoy and embrace those ones to end the ride to be in the semi-finals.
12:14We are pretty sure what kind of game we are going to play. We are not sure about the result. We have to control your performance, and I think tomorrow night we are going to control our performances.
12:27We obviously were nowhere near our best in the first leg. Things have to improve, you know. We're well aware of that, and we'll try and give that and show that tomorrow.
12:35Yeah, big task for Real Madrid tonight. Arsenal, though, their only previous visit in the Champions League at the Bernabeu was 19 years ago.
12:46It was Thierry Henry's goal in the round of 16 en route to the 2006 final that sealed it. Get the job done again tonight.
12:53It'll be the waitress of dreams for the Arsenal travelling fans.
12:58Come on, guys!
13:13Come on!
13:14To come here 3-0 up is like a dream come true, but it's only halfway.
13:18You've got to remember, Arsenal have never lost to Madrid.
13:20We've never conceded to Madrid. We've had three clean sheets against them.
13:24Whether we'll get a fourth, I don't know, but...
13:26We're not planners to compete.
13:28We're not going to concede three, put it in our way. It's going to be a good night.
13:31Arsenal are going to do well with the lower block, but I don't think we can keep out the goal.
13:36So I think it's going to be 1-0 to the Armageddon, but we'll be on our way to Paris, that's for sure.
13:41The one thing I've not watched my club win is the Champions League, and I really hope in my lifetime we get to see that.
13:47Come on, Arsenal!
13:48Come on, Arsenal!
13:49No!
13:50Oh, Arsenal!
13:51Oh, Arsenal!
14:02Here they come into a super stadium on a stella night of Champions League knockout football.
14:09It was one of the top games that we played at home and in the Champions League,
14:22especially playing against one of the biggest clubs in the world.
14:25The approach from the first day that we were planning the game, it was perfect.
14:30How do you recreate that this week?
14:33Doing exactly the same.
14:35It sounds simple.
14:37It's not as simple as it sounds, but trying to approach the game, that we want to win the game,
14:42that's the most important thing.
14:43And being super convinced to want to win the game, that's a big message from everyone.
14:48You probably had the best view of everybody, of those three kicks.
14:51What were you thinking at that moment, especially when the second one went in?
14:55The first one, I was thinking, just hit the target.
14:58And I thought from the distance and everything, we were going to cross it or something,
15:02but if it was going to shoot, just hit the target.
15:04But when I saw the ball going around the wall, I'm thinking, this has a chance.
15:08The second one, it was a little bit closer and to the left.
15:12I was just praying, just hitting the air post, because I knew more or less in a goalkeeping perspective,
15:17maybe you want to cheat a little bit to go over the wall again.
15:20Even if you didn't cheat, of course it's running top corner.
15:23I don't think anybody can say that.
15:25Mbappe! David Ryan makes a save, which is crucial.
15:31From a defensive point of view, how much are you talking to that back line during the game?
15:35A lot. A lot. I think maybe sometimes they don't even hear me because of the noise of the stadium,
15:41but I do this because, for me, it's a way of me being concentrated the whole game.
15:46When you think back, you say you have come a long, long, long way.
15:51I was in conference prem in 2014, like for three months until 2015,
15:56but it makes you realise how things can change if you work hard and you follow your dreams.
16:02Yeah, there is so much Spanish influence, isn't there, in this squad.
16:08Not least Mikel Arteta, who of course was an academy product at the enemy, Barcelona.
16:12But David Rea as well, his journey has been pretty incredible.
16:15Barcelona-born, Real Madrid fan, Ike Casillas fan, actually, he was his hero.
16:21He is a Spanish international, of course, but this is only his second club match in Spain.
16:27This is his Bernabeu debut tonight, ten years after making his senior debut in the National League for Southport.
16:35That is quite a journey, and it was interesting there, Rio and Martin.
16:39David Rea talked about the importance of communication.
16:41He speaks to his back four all the time, and that is going to be absolutely key
16:46with the attacking threat that Real Madrid have.
16:48Yeah, I think the relationship with a goalkeeper, I think communication was always a big thing.
16:51Not necessarily always in the game.
16:53It was just, again, knowing what your keeper wants from yourself as a defender,
16:57but also you telling the goalkeeper what I'm comfortable with as well.
17:00So the sooner you iron out any differences of opinions during training, during games,
17:05the easier it becomes in these moments here.
17:07Especially when you come here with me and Martin, we're discussing the atmosphere here.
17:10It's going to be a cauldron in here, and you're not going to be able to hear yourself think,
17:13let alone play football at times.
17:15So those moments of conversations and understanding of each other behind closed doors
17:19are going to be really, really important tonight.
17:22Yeah, there have been defensive problems, haven't there, for Arsenal throughout the season tonight.
17:26No Gabriel again.
17:27Jacob Kiwior comes in.
17:29Interestingly, when they've played as a pair, Arsenal have never lost.
17:33How do they complement each other, Saliba and Kiwior, compared to Gabriel?
17:38Well, I think actually Saliba is very much the leader, and Gabriel was that in the other partnership.
17:44He plays on the left, so it's comfortable on that left foot's really important for him.
17:49He started the game, actually, the first leg very slowly.
17:53I watched the warm-up with my son, we were watching him, and he looked a little bit nervy.
17:56And he got those two or three moments out of the way.
17:59And then he started to flourish.
18:01He started to feel the confidence, the warmth of the crowd.
18:04There's a lot of pressure on his shoulders here tonight, as there was in this game.
18:08This is early on.
18:09He dives in to win the ball and doesn't get it.
18:12And that's in the first couple of minutes.
18:15And then this one, it's like a wayward pass.
18:17And you can't give, you can't do that tonight, certainly with that caliber of player on the pitch.
18:22And Arsenal really should have been punished at that point.
18:24So a big learning curve for him, but he gathered himself in the game.
18:28He got more confident.
18:29Look, he's in there winning things.
18:31He's not frightened of the pace over the top.
18:33Nice and calm here with his chest.
18:35Just, you know, knocking that one down, really grew into the game.
18:38Martin, I think, you know, as a centre-back, you need that, don't you?
18:42I mean, you need a moment in your career, doesn't matter who you are,
18:46where you go, actually, I've settled down there.
18:49I felt comfortable in that moment.
18:51I think whenever I've watched him so far,
18:53I think it was Bayern Munich last season where he doesn't look,
18:56he didn't look comfortable, didn't really feel part of it.
18:58You need that moment.
18:59I think that could be a catalyst for him to, I think,
19:01to really start performing with some confidence
19:04and putting out some really solid performances.
19:06He's going to need another one of those today.
19:07But I think the support of not only Saliba,
19:10but the goalkeeper behind him to keep him settled in this game,
19:13I think is going to be massively important to get him through this game.
19:16But his confidence, I think, would have gone,
19:18would have skyrocketed after that game against the Real Madrid.
19:20But you need to communicate with him.
19:22And he needs to be in the right place.
19:24When they're playing all this attractive football,
19:26you know, be in the right position.
19:28Don't suddenly react when they lose possession.
19:30And that's something he's learning to do now.
19:32Concentration will be absolutely key, won't it?
19:34Well, look, Spain is, of course, football mad.
19:37Spanish sports dailies come up with reams of copy, don't they,
19:41ahead of big nights like these.
19:42Let's get a steer on what the press pack here are predicting
19:45with Becky, who's joined by Steve,
19:47and Spanish football experts, Phil Kuchmelidis.
19:50Thank you very much, freshmen.
19:51Expert.
19:52Yes, there we go.
19:53Expert, I like that.
19:54Not my words.
19:55So let's get your opinion.
19:56The Spanish press, not exactly a shy and tiring bunch, I don't think.
20:00What was the fallout from last week?
20:01What were the main headlines?
20:02Yeah, the headline on the front page of Marker after that game was fiasco.
20:05And I think what people really couldn't believe from Real Madrid
20:08was that there was no real reaction.
20:10You know, you expect Real Madrid.
20:12There's usually 5, 10, 15 minutes of when they're pushing
20:15and getting back into the game.
20:16There was absolutely none of that.
20:17And that's what the press really could not get their head around.
20:20Let me tell you, there's a reaction in here,
20:21because Arsenal have just taken to the field,
20:23and you can hear what the Madridistas think about that.
20:26But in contrast, then, what has been set up this week by the press?
20:30Have you heard of the word remontada?
20:32I think I've heard it a million times.
20:34By any chance.
20:35Yes.
20:36Well, that's been mentioned every single front page since the day after.
20:39So, they've been building the narrative about the comeback.
20:42It's what they do.
20:43It's what Real Madrid do.
20:44So, now, everybody, I think, in this stadium believes
20:46that Real Madrid have got a really good chance,
20:48apart from maybe the 4,000 Arsenal.
20:50Apart from us.
20:51Yeah, apart from maybe.
20:52Well, look, the Real Madrid fans,
20:53they're expecting their team to turn up tonight, won't they, Maka?
20:56It's like a given in this place.
20:57They have to.
20:58They haven't turned up recently in the league games, in the cup games.
21:01They certainly didn't turn up at the Emirates last week.
21:03That was one of the worst performances we've seen from them.
21:06They need it tonight.
21:07They need a big performance.
21:08The manager needs a big performance,
21:10or heads will roll at the end of the season.
21:12To go out in the quarter-finals is fine for various teams.
21:15It's not fine for Real Madrid.
21:17So, they need a huge, huge performance,
21:19something that we haven't seen in a while tonight.
21:21I can see signs in here that say,
21:23Jude, we will fight to the end.
21:24Hello Madrid.
21:25The fans are here early, ready for this one.
21:26But Carlo Ancelotti, he's really under pressure here.
21:29Phil, you actually said sort of a bit of a statement earlier.
21:31Care to share?
21:32Yeah.
21:33I think if he loses tonight, he probably won't be here next season.
21:36Even if they win, he might not be here next season.
21:38That's the thing.
21:39I mean, as Maka was saying,
21:40Real Madrid's season is defined by two things really.
21:42How they do in the Champions League, and how Barcelona do as well.
21:45So, Barcelona into the semi-final, four points clear of La Liga.
21:49Even if Real Madrid get through tonight, we'll see what happens.
21:52But you remember, Maka, 2003, Real Madrid won the league.
21:55Yep.
21:56The day after, literally the day after,
21:58the manager was sacked, Vicente del Bosque.
22:00So, even winning the league...
22:01Yeah, disgracefully sacked, yeah.
22:03And Fernando Hierro, the captain,
22:05they reneged on his contract as well.
22:07So, they effectively sacked him.
22:08So, it was appalling.
22:09And it was this president as well.
22:10So, he doesn't suffer fools, does he, Florentino?
22:13Look, I don't want it to sound like a cliche,
22:15but honestly, it's electric in here.
22:17Real Madrid have just taken to the field.
22:19These fans are already screaming their hearts out.
22:22This is just a small taster
22:23because the seats aren't even fully full in here yet, Phil.
22:26This is fuller than it normally is at this time.
22:28A lot fuller than it normally is.
22:30They usually take their time to get in here, but not tonight.
22:32All right, well, we wait to see.
22:34We are so looking forward to this.
22:35Maka, Phil, thank you so much, Resh.
22:37Thank you very much, guys.
22:39Great to hear from you.
22:40What a night ahead here at the Santiago Bernabeu.
22:44It is absolutely rocking.
22:46And we're not even at kickoff.
22:49Well, this isn't the only game on TNT Sports tonight.
22:52Remember, it's 13 years since they were beaten finalists at the Allianz.
22:55Could another opportunity to be crowned kings of Europe
22:57in their own stadium be about to elude Bayern Munich?
23:01They arrived at San Siro here.
23:032-1 down against Inter after the first leg.
23:05You can watch that game live on TNT Sports 2, of course.
23:08You can watch both of tonight's matches at the same time
23:11by using the Discovery Plus app here at the Santiago Bernabeu.
23:15Although it is gearing up nicely for what is sure to be
23:18an absolute thriller in Madrid.
23:20We continue our build-up after this.
23:27We've got a full house pitch side now.
23:28Great to see you all as well.
23:30Building up, of course, to this huge game at the Bernabeu.
23:32Let's talk a little bit about Real Madrid and the Real Madrid midfield.
23:36It's been key, hasn't it, for all their recent success?
23:39It really has been about that.
23:40We've had Fede Valverde, who is kind of almost that holding player
23:44who would allow Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to move around
23:48because of defensive injuries.
23:50He's been playing at right back.
23:51How good is it to have him back in his right ball position tonight?
23:55Yeah, well, he just gives you a huge amount of energy.
23:57Reschman, he's very underrated, but he's a superstar footballer.
24:01And they need him in the middle of the park, really.
24:03They struggled last week.
24:05The only thing is him playing in the middle of the park
24:08suddenly weakens the right back area
24:10where they've been very vulnerable this year.
24:11Lucas Vazquez will play there.
24:14But against Milan, against the Dortmund early on in the season,
24:17they really struggled in that particular area.
24:20So to have Fede Valverde back with Tumeni and Jude Bellingham
24:22just gives them that youthful exuberance to run forward
24:25and really try and help the forward line.
24:28I expect Jude to run forward at every single opportunity
24:31and try and get into the penalty area to score goals.
24:33I think it's hugely important.
24:35Somebody who knows and understands his role in that position.
24:37But also, I think that they've missed Tony Cruz massively this season
24:40in terms of controlling games and the rhythm of the game,
24:43understanding the pass to play with the experience.
24:46I think he then adds that little bit of that difference.
24:48Also, that different player not going to control the game in that sense,
24:51but it gives freedom to the Bellingham's of this world
24:54to be able to really go on and not have to look over their shoulder at any point
24:57because they have that security now.
24:59Yeah, we're looking at the midfield drive for Arsenal then, Declan Rice.
25:03I mean, what a player.
25:04He had the most touches in the opposition box
25:06than any other player for Arsenal last week.
25:09He's been absolutely key, worth every penny of his ÂŁ105 million, isn't he?
25:13Yeah, Ilmish seems cheap, doesn't it?
25:15At that amount of money they paid for him.
25:17And this is a player that just keeps getting better and better.
25:20You know, I thought it was going to be a six for Arsenal,
25:23but he can play anywhere in that midfield.
25:25Getting forward, as you say, many more touches than any other player in the final third.
25:29Really taking the game.
25:31And that was a really good opportunity for him there.
25:33Great save.
25:34Courtois really was so special on the night.
25:36It was those three kicks that beat him here.
25:38Approach play.
25:39Again, Declan involved setting this one up for the third goal.
25:44And Morena, again, what a finish that was.
25:47He's done really well as well, actually, in that false nine.
25:50But Declan is a driving force, he's a leader,
25:53and he's really going to be needed tonight, particularly defensively.
25:56This is it, isn't it?
25:57This is it tonight, though.
25:59He was magnificent last week, and he's a fantastic player, Reggman,
26:02as you rightly said.
26:03But tonight is the bread and butter.
26:05This is where you need a big performance away to the champions of Europe.
26:09You need to go through.
26:10They need to be on it tonight, really.
26:12I expect them to be, because I think he's such a fabulous footballer.
26:15But this is where he'll be counted at.
26:17This is where he'll be judged this evening.
26:19And I think, like, it's crazy to say it, but what you do in the first leg
26:23will be forgotten if you don't get it done in the rest game here.
26:26Of course.
26:27And this is where you start writing your own chapter
26:29in the Champions League now as a player.
26:31Where are you going to be ranked?
26:32These players will be sitting and listening to all of us
26:34and all of our people that are doing jobs that we're doing,
26:37where we're comparing players around the game.
26:40These are the occasions.
26:41Can you come here?
26:42Can you dominate?
26:43Can you guide your team?
26:44Can you be the driving force for your team
26:46to navigate yourself through to the next round?
26:48You can imagine the headlines if Arsenal don't go through this evening.
26:51Oh, babe. Of course.
26:52They know that.
26:53The fear factor must be in the players, mustn't it?
26:55They must know we have to get the job done this evening
26:58and go through to the semifinals of this wonderful tournament.
27:01And it's playing knowing what the headlines could be tomorrow.
27:05That can create a fear or it can create an actual chest out.
27:09I'll meet this head on.
27:10And I think we'll get that from Declan and his teammates tonight.
27:12Definitely, yeah.
27:13Let's talk about the Real Madrid attacking force.
27:15You said earlier in the program, Martin, 80 goals between them.
27:1833 for that man, Kylian Mbappe himself.
27:20He had a bit of a slow start to the season, didn't he?
27:22But he soon got into the swing of things, let's say.
27:26But I really want to ask, when you look at this Real Madrid team
27:29with and without him, look what they did last season without him.
27:32Yes, he's adding goals.
27:34But what does he do out of possession?
27:35What does he do when this team have their backs against the wall?
27:38Do we get enough out of Kylian Mbappe himself?
27:41I personally don't think they get enough out of Kylian or Vinicius Jr.
27:44I don't at all.
27:45We all understand what superstar footballers they are when they go forwards
27:49and they're almost playing for the counterattack all the time.
27:52But they need to defend and work harder.
27:55You can accommodate one not working hard being the superstar.
27:58You cannot accommodate two.
28:00We saw it at Paris Saint-Germain in the past.
28:02That was their weakness.
28:04The forwards didn't work hard enough when they had Kylian, Neymar, Messi up front.
28:09We understood that.
28:11And now PSG are the ultimate team.
28:13So they need to do something tonight.
28:15Yes, the superstar.
28:16Yes, they're going to score goals.
28:17But if they lose, they've already had criticism in the paper
28:20for not working hard enough.
28:22The eyes of the world are on them for not working hard enough.
28:24What did we say about this Real Madrid team last season?
28:27What were some of the great kind of sub-stories?
28:31When we were talking about post-games against all teams coming through
28:34from coming behind, et cetera, fighting games,
28:37there was a humility within their squad
28:39where each and every one of them worked for each other.
28:42And I think you need that in these games.
28:44Unless you can only have one player, like I said,
28:46who doesn't work hard as everybody else may be.
28:48But he's got to be getting 50, 60 goals a season.
28:51You can't be getting 30-odd goals at everyone else.
28:53You've got to be standing out from the crowd completely
28:56and being that reason why they're going to win the trophy.
28:58Well, they signed him as one of the best players in the world,
29:01if not the best.
29:02It's his chance tonight to stand up and be counted
29:05because there is that challenge we heard the guys speak earlier about.
29:09There's Real Madrid season being defined not just by what they do,
29:12but also by what Barcelona do.
29:15And last night we saw Dortmund defeat Barcelona at their home ground.
29:21But despite Sergio Garazza's hat-trick, it just wasn't enough.
29:24Last season's finalists bowed out of the competition
29:27and Barcelona are through.
29:29It was, of course, a similar story at Villa Park.
29:31Aston Villa just fell short of what would have been an incredible comeback.
29:35It is PSG who will face either Arsenal or Real Madrid in the semis.
29:39And our build-up to this continues after the break.
29:45The Bernabeu is iconic and historic
29:47and has often been the inspiration in Europe for Real Madrid.
29:51Kerry Benzemaier and they're back in it!
29:53The greatest club side in this competition's history.
29:56Always seem to find a way.
29:58Rodrigo! Oh, what a time to score!
30:01Kerry Benzemaier strikes again!
30:03They are going crazy, they've lifted the roof off of this base.
30:06Goal!
30:08The culture of colour and noise.
30:10What a climax, what a comeback!
30:12Astonishing!
30:13What are we seeing tonight?
30:15Amazing!
30:16It's a goal!
30:18Oh my word.
30:20He's going to win!
30:23Unbelievable scenes in the Santiago Bernabeu!
30:26It's quite remarkable what they do in this stadium, in this competition.
30:31Goal! Yeah!
30:33Well, if they're going to have another night like this,
30:37they're going to need their front four to be attacking on all fronts.
30:41Luckily, they're all in the starting lineup with Mbappe, Vinicius, Rodrigo and Jude Bellingham.
30:46As for Arsenal, it's the same starting XI as last week.
30:49Thomas Partey is fit to start the game.
30:52And we can hear now from his manager, the Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, is speaking to Becky.
30:58Mikel, how's the prep been today?
31:00Is it calm?
31:01What do you sense from your team right now?
31:03Very good.
31:04Very focused.
31:05Very determined.
31:06We know the challenge and the opportunity ahead and go and embrace it.
31:11You've gone with the same team as what you did last week.
31:13They've got a couple of changes with Valverde back in that midfield.
31:17Does that alter anything of your approach?
31:19Yeah, within the formation and the approach that they have.
31:22Obviously, at the end, the players make the difference and their qualities.
31:25So, we will understand what they want to do first and then what are the strengths and weaknesses of them.
31:31How important are the first 15 minutes of this game in terms of keeping a check on the atmosphere and just keeping things in check?
31:38It's always very important to start with a positive vibe, good feeling, the fact that you are controlling and dominating the game.
31:46So, we will try to do that.
31:47But it's going to be a long game, so it's not only about the start.
31:50Is it a case of just winning it minute by minute?
31:53It's like this, action by action.
31:55At this level, every action matches, every action changes momentum and the way the game is developing.
32:00So, be very focused, very determined and go for it.
32:03Yeah, no change for Mikel Arteta's side.
32:08You guys were watching the warm-up for Arsenal quite intently.
32:12Anything you noticed there in terms of how they were setting up?
32:15We wouldn't stand a chance.
32:17I gathered that quickly.
32:18They're too quick, too strong now for us.
32:20Speak for yourself.
32:21They look focused.
32:23They look ready.
32:24They look ready to rock and roll.
32:25You don't sense nerves.
32:26It's easy to take it before our ball's been kicked.
32:28They look quite comfortable out there and quite calm.
32:30But, listen, it's a different thing when that Champions League music starts and this play starts whistling the life out of it.
32:36It's going to be a different feeling then.
32:37But, listen, this is what you play for.
32:40These are the moments that you'd sit there and go, you know what?
32:43Let me get out there and put myself against a team like this in the Bernabeu.
32:46Look at them fans.
32:47Look at that.
32:48Oh, my gosh.
32:49Do you know what?
32:50The thing is, watching Martinelli and the first game, I didn't think Arsenal gave him the ball nearly enough.
32:55And he's just put the ball in the back of that in that practice session every time, bang, every once.
32:59It's easy without any opponents.
33:01Yeah.
33:02But Mbappe looks very sharp, I must say, the other end.
33:05They did a bit of sprinting there and it looked lively.
33:07Yeah, look, there could be goals galore for Real Madrid.
33:11We've seen it.
33:12But for Arsenal as well, for the first time in Arteta's reign, actually, we've seen three goals from fast breaks in three consecutive Premier League games.
33:19That's pretty impressive and they could really exploit Real Madrid with that.
33:22Yeah.
33:23And that's something that might be happening tonight if that Real Madrid get lots of the ball and they need to break with numbers.
33:28Saka, of course, coming back is a massive boost to the team.
33:32And they're carrying the ball here.
33:34Well, sensibly, Sterling not featured very much.
33:37It's been a bit of a disappointment, if we're honest.
33:39But, you know, look, there's the goal, the strike again.
33:42It's that composure.
33:43This one is particularly outstanding, really.
33:45Watching the development of Declan Rice, the calmness in possession.
33:50He could have released this ball actually much sooner.
33:53But instead, he just delays his pass and then it's a nice finish for Partey.
33:57Again, he's having his best season in an Arsenal shirt.
34:00I must say that I think if Saka didn't get back fit for this tie, I wouldn't have given Arsenal a chance to get through this tie.
34:07I'm no disrespect to all the other players.
34:09He just gives them something.
34:10He's a weapon.
34:11They just they can't replace that.
34:13He's a player who's got a huge consistency.
34:15His output is massive.
34:17And I think in these moments, he's showing consistently now over this part of his career where he could come in and affect games like this.
34:23Well, that's where they have to play Rio, don't they?
34:25They have to play wide.
34:26Martinelli on Lucas Vazquez, Saka on Alaba.
34:29I mean, they're the positions.
34:31Real Madrid have got three of the main defenders missing.
34:33They are down to the bare bones defensively.
34:35That is the area you have to exploit.
34:38And I would just be feeding those two players constantly.
34:41Every time you get the ball, Martinelli, you don't even look at Martinelli.
34:44Get him at Lucas Vazquez because he's too quick and he's too skillful born.
34:48Saka this side.
34:49David Alba has missed a lot of football.
34:51Great pro.
34:52Incredible career.
34:54But he played principally at centre defence.
34:56He's now stuck wide on the left-hand side of the defence.
35:00Saka should get at him as much as he possibly can.
35:02That's where they're vulnerable, Madrid.
35:04You played as a winger.
35:05When you see the team sheet and you see a defender, you go, you know what?
35:08He's not as comfortable out there.
35:10And my superpowers outweigh his weaknesses massively.
35:14Get at him.
35:15Get at him.
35:16But I think Arsenal is important.
35:17They retain possession and then feed those guys.
35:20Give them the ball to take Real Madrid on.
35:23Okay.
35:25But you know what?
35:26If you didn't know already, it is a huge night here at the Bernabeu.
35:29We can barely hear ourselves things, but we love that.
35:32Nothing against that at all.
35:34These are a couple of European football cathedrals that will be hosting semi-finals tonight.
35:39Because in addition, of course, to Real Madrid against Arsenal here at the Bernabeu.
35:43We also have Inter against Bayern at San Siro.
35:47Don't forget, you can watch both games simultaneously.
35:49You know all this by now.
35:51You can use the Discovery Plus app.
35:53We've got timeline markers so you can re-watch key moments.
35:57We also have the multi-match and goal alert options.
36:01So you will never miss a moment that matters.
36:03And you are going to need those tonight because it is going to be incredible in both of these matches.
36:10So much to play for.
36:11Real Madrid obviously trying to come back here at the Bernabeu.
