00:00Hello, very well, welcome back. Thank you for joining us for our postgame show. So good to have you with us. Kate, Thierry, Jamie and Micah. What's wrong? Welcome along, everybody. You usually start it and then I follow. That's how it usually goes. Should we try again? Let's go back to the beginning. Hello, everybody. Welcome along to the postgame show. So good to have you with us. Come on in. Kate, Thierry, Jamie and Micah here with you. Okay, so we've got two of the semifinalists are now known. We've got PSG and Barca who are through to the next round of the
00:29Champions League. PSG, we know, will face the winners of the Arsenal-Real Madrid game tomorrow. Remember, second leg of that. Arsenal go in with a 3-0 advantage but playing at the Bernabeu for this second leg. Barcelona will play the winner of Inter against Bayern. Inter 2-1 up playing at home at the San Siro for the second leg of there. So we've got some great semifinals coming up. Either way, these games go tomorrow. Today, though, gave us some drama that we didn't expect in both games. Yeah, I wanted to just ask Thierry and we'll go through the goals a little bit later on. But in terms of
00:59tactically how they set up, Ramsey was out and they brought in Inanna and we sort of thought that was a defensive move. But actually for Villa, it helped them get up the pitch. Did they go with just energy instead of maybe a bit more creativity?
01:12To be fair, they scored the two goals without them being on the field. What I thought Emery didn't do so well in the first half, he thought about stopping them more than he thought about attacking them.
01:25Do you know what I mean? This is why he went five in midfield, five guys that could match, as you mentioned before.
01:30Them going for being man marking and trying to make it difficult for them instead of thinking, you know, how can we attack them?
01:39You know what I mean? He was thinking about stopping them. And at one point, when you 2-1 down, there's nothing about stopping them anymore.
01:47It's you on going. But you were already behind from the first leg.
01:51Having said that, you know, if you go back out of the tactical thing, man, they made it a game.
01:58I couldn't see that coming, I'll be honest with you. And they were very close to go to extra time.
02:05You always talk about patience as well. Sorry, Kate, I feel like I'm doing my job here.
02:08I feel the same way.
02:09But you always talk about patience, Jamie, as well.
02:11How do you think Aston Villa did that with the patience, with the tactical set-up from the start compared to then the second half?
02:18Well, I think we always talk about going for the game and we talk about being with the ball.
02:23But we said before the game as well, your analysis was about, you know, how at times they were having a back five or back six.
02:29They couldn't afford to do that. They had to almost go man for man and be aggressive.
02:32Now, I understand what Thierry is saying. He's right.
02:35But I also can think where Unai Emery's coming from.
02:37And I think if we played teams at home in Europe, sort of, for Liverpool and Anfield, and it wouldn't be about, like, we're going to get on the ball and play great football and play through them.
02:45We'd almost be thinking we want to win the ball off them.
02:48Do you know what I mean?
02:49That would be our way of thinking we can score and it'd be using the crowd.
02:52It wouldn't be about, like, OK, maybe getting between the lines.
02:54And that would come maybe later on as the game's slowed down.
02:57But certainly at the very start, it'd be, like, man-to-man all over the pitch, press them all over the pitch, lift the crowd, win a big challenge and make it like a Premier League game.
03:05And I think, to be fair to Villa, they did make it like a Premier League game.
03:07They started the way we thought they should in terms of being aggressive against the ball.
03:11But if you leave yourself 1v1, what happens in the first half can't happen, you know.
03:16And just, because, by the way, what they wanted to do is, Paris Saint-Germain went through their pressing anyway.
03:23I just thought also that Watkins came too late into the game.
03:28Is that, do you think, what he could have said?
03:30The only thing I look at is when he brought Watkins on, do you leave Rashford on?
03:34Radon's still going with the extra mid-fielder player.
03:36You should, and Rashford was on fire, he was playing well.
03:39It was nice to see that also from Marcus Rashford.
03:42We're going to take you over to Villa Park for some reaction from over there, because, of course, we've had Anita there for us all evening.
03:47We've been talking about the atmosphere and how important that was for Villa, the belief that they played within that second half.
03:52What was it like to be over there, Anita?
03:55Incredible stuff, Kate.
03:56Honestly, this is the stuff of football fans' dreams.
03:59It looked like Aston Villa were going to make the comeback happen, but just short at the end there.
04:05So exciting, especially when John McGinn had that goal.
04:08I know there was a deflection on it, but you just felt the roof raise in here.
04:12I actually spoke to the Aston Villa captain a couple of moments ago, and he made a big statement.
04:17He called PSG the best team in the world.
04:19I asked him did he think they were going to go on and win the competition, and he thought they had a very good chance.
04:25I also asked him about one of the other quarterfinals happening tomorrow between Real Madrid and Arsenal.
04:30He thought Arsenal could get the job done, but interesting in that he thinks that PSG are so good.
04:36He said they're so devastating on the attack and felt that him and his teammates would really feel it tomorrow.
04:42Interesting. Are you hoping that you might be able to speak to anyone else and bring them to us in the studio, or what's the plan, Anita?
04:50I'll try and work my magic, you know. Maybe Big Me should have come here and given me a hand.
04:54Maybe Big Me should have spoken to the ground staff, I told you. They were calling for you, Michael.
04:59I'm sorry, Anita. What was the atmosphere like, Anita? Did you enjoy it?
05:03100% I'd come back. Like I said, John McGinn said that him and his teammates are full of motivation to get back to this competition next season.
05:10And as things stand, they're seventh in the Premier League table. So much to play for. It is tight in those, what, positions from third through to tenth.
05:19So they have a real chance of getting back to the top European competition for next season.
05:25I'm liking the coat, Anita. I'm liking the coat.
05:28Thank you. Thank you. I had to make an effort.
05:31Is it real first?
05:33Oh, wow.
05:35You are a cricket.
05:37Me-ha!
05:40Me-ha!
05:42Just finding out.
05:44All right. Thank you, Anita. We'll see you in a bit.
05:46Thank you. See you.
05:47Are we getting Dembele?
05:48Ask her. She's gone.
05:50I was trying, but you talk about coats, so I couldn't get it.
05:52Mmm.
05:53We have a job to do.
05:55People are always ruining your football tour, can't they?
05:57We have a job to do.
05:58OK, we will get her back. Don't worry. Hopefully Dembele as well.
06:01We're going to go to a very quick break. We'll bring you highlights, action, interviews.
06:04Dembele, hopefully. All of that after the break.
06:08Good luck.

06:37Hi everybody, welcome back to our Champions League coverage, good to have you still with
06:58us.
06:59So finally we're going to be able to take you through the highlights and the action from
07:02the game between Aston Villa and PSG.
07:04Aston Villa getting the 3-2 win against PSG on the night, quite an achievement but still
07:09amounted to a 5-4 loss on aggregate to PSG.
07:12We're going to go with the first goal first of all, Ashraf Hakimi.
07:15Thierry?
07:16Yeah, we talked about it, it's kind of a weird way how they consider the goal because Hakimi
07:21stayed down injured at the top of the field, Rashford doesn't punish them.
07:27Next thing you know you will see him at the bottom of the screen here on the right, he's
07:30holding his head, he's coming back.
07:33Mad catch could have done a bit better and not stopped, Martinez should have done better
07:39and Hakimi is there to finish.
07:40As you're going to see here, you can see he's holding his head, that pass, it's a bit harsh
07:45maybe on Mad catch but you can't stop because there's no way you can catch Barcola.
07:53But Hakimi stayed in that position because ultimately he was kind of injured, got up and
08:00went to score his goal.
08:011-0.
08:02He was heavily involved in 2-0 as well, this time he was the creator or certainly heavily
08:08involved as I said there.
08:10Lovely touch, he makes that run inside.
08:12A big feature of the full-backs positions under Luis Enrique for PSG.
08:16And then it comes to Nuno Mendes and look at that, most goal involvements in the Champions
08:23League this season, Kimi Mendes, two of the top three, that's fantastic and it just shows
08:30how important these two full-backs are to the quality of this team, not defensively but actually
08:37going forward.
08:39Wow, what a finish, that was a great finish, the way he opens up his body was just outstanding
08:46but Tielemans, I mean he's been outstanding over the two legs.
08:50I just like the way Villa was more aggressive, you know, they sort of had to go through at this
08:55stage, lovely touches and then I don't know if it was going in, maybe it was going just wide.
09:01The build-up was good.
09:02But just look at how aggressive they are compared to what we've seen recently and yeah, it was
09:08about timing, holding the run and then they get a bit lucky on the finish, but that set
09:14them on their way to be a very good game in the end.
09:20Yeah, and then if you're watching the show throughout the evening, you would have seen us at half-time
09:23going back to the kick-off in the second half, kind of looking for a way to create some hope
09:27for Villa fans and didn't really figure that there would be any hope for Villa going into
09:31that second half, but incredible first 15 minutes, Jamie.
09:33Yeah, I mean, obviously your Astorzor, I was the only one who said they had a little bit of hope.
09:36Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
09:40You used the word that, you didn't even, you used the wrong word, didn't you?
09:44Why?
09:44What did he say?
09:45Slimmer, glimmer.
09:45He said glimmer.
09:46I said slimmer, it was a glimmer.
09:48I said slither at home, yeah, slither at home.
09:49Anyway, John McGinn.
09:50Yeah.
09:51He was a, he was, listen, it was one of those ones that it looks a great goal and it still
09:57is a very good goal, just takes a little nick, but again, they get that ball, don't forget,
10:00Tielemans in the first half, running at the defence between the lines, getting in behind the midfield.
10:05That's what John McGinn does as well there.
10:07He's got an awful long way to run as well.
10:09We've got to do more in terms of closing them down quicker, gets a little bit of luck,
10:12but it's a brilliant goal, brilliant strike.
10:15And then we knew we were going to have a little bit of a game, didn't we?
10:17Yeah, we did.
10:18I mean, I've trained with John McGinn, played with Matt Villa.
10:21He is a, he is a top player.
10:23He just keeps going from strength to strength.
10:25But another man I was impressed with was Rashford.
10:28We talked about him playing as number nine.
10:30He always loved his left channels, don't he?
10:32And I mean, I thought his work rate tonight was outstanding.
10:36And what a save that is from Donnarama.
10:39I mean, not many goalkeepers save that.
10:42And you're right, Thierry, that is young Rashford.
10:44Confidence, freedom coming inside.
10:47And what a hit it was.
10:49But this was a massive chance, Thierry.
10:52That's the Rashford we like to see.
10:54That's the Rashford of Manchester United.
10:56Look at how he goes inside, awareness.
10:59But talk to me about the finish of Konza.
11:02The way he placed that ball in the bottom corner is just outstanding.
11:06Just a little bit of bend on it, isn't it?
11:08Yeah, just away from the goalkeeper.
11:09There's no way the goalkeeper can save that,
11:11because he's going back in the middle of his goal from that position.
11:14You can't save that.
11:16You're going to see it here.
11:19It's impossible to save that, and Rashford did ever so well
11:22and won the finish from Konza.
11:23Yeah, and then we saw Aston Villa have four decent chances
11:27to try and get that goal that would have taken the game to extra time.
11:30It just wasn't to be for them tonight.
11:31Let's take a look at Tielemans first.
11:32Yeah, Tielemans was the first one.
11:34And you just felt like the goal was coming.
11:37As I said, there was a few of them in such a short space of time.
11:41I mean, to be honest, he does everything right there.
11:43The only way he can really head that is to try and loop it over the goalkeeper.
11:46That's what he tried to do.
11:47But the size of the goalkeeper is probably the one goalkeeper in world football.
11:51I can probably get that just because of the sheer size of him.
11:56Very unlucky.
11:56What a save.
11:57I mean, Asensio comes on.
12:00What a move, by the way.
12:00And look at the run, the ball, the timing.
12:03And you just think he's going to lift it there.
12:05I don't know if he tries to go through the goalkeeper's legs there, Thierry.
12:08He can also lay it off for Rashford, but you need to be extremely cold to see that one.
12:15I just think he could use the bounce of the ball, though, and just lift it over the...
12:19Over the...
12:19Yes.
12:20I mean, when you don't score, I mean, it's easy to say, oh, that's the one for me.
12:24Concer.
12:24Oh.
12:25Jamie, you've been in the situation many times.
12:28How many times I've done that?
12:32Does he try and get too much, like throw his head out of the table too much?
12:34Yeah, he tried to rotate way early and doesn't connect with the ball.
12:39I mean, this one.
12:40Oh, but this one.
12:41From Mattson.
12:42Last kick of the game, the technique is outrageous.
12:46Pacho played well.
12:47Just hits the edge of the ball, gets the spin, but your man, Pacho, off the line, Jamie.
12:54Receipt better from Mattson.
12:55That is really interesting to see if it wouldn't come back enough.
12:58Just inside, maybe.
13:02What a game of football that was.
13:04Thoroughly enjoyed it.
13:05Look at that.
13:06Look at this stadium.
13:08Villa Park.
13:09Wow.
13:10Is it a team you would enjoy to see in the Champions League again next season?
13:12A hundred percent.
13:13A hundred percent.
13:14I mean, let's put my career aside for the moment.
13:16Obviously, it wasn't great there, but I still want to see them do well because of the match.
13:19You're bringing up.
13:20Yeah, you're coming to me because I played for Aston Villa.
13:23But this, the fans, when they're at it, yeah, there's some of them.
13:27I think it's one of those nights where if you're a fan, you're disappointed,
13:31but you've loved it as well.
13:32You were going there not really expecting too much.
13:35And that's a night that they remember for a long time.
13:37You know, hopefully from their point of view, they'll get in the Champions League next season.
13:40I think they will through the league position.
13:42But that's a night they couldn't have dreamt of sort of four or five years ago.
13:46So, yeah, they'll be disappointed, but there'll be a real buzz around Aston Villa now going forward because they can use that.
13:52If they had to finish two or three-nil, losing, you know, it was two-nil at one stage.
13:56If that goes three or four, that affects your league form.
13:59That affects, you know, maybe the cup semi-final that you've got.
14:02They can use the fact that in John McGinn, the captain's eyes, they've beaten the best team in Europe and beaten them well and could have been by more.
14:08You know, so they've got to take that going forward now.
14:11From PSG's perspective, that shouldn't have happened, should it, coming in 3-1?
14:15I mean, they kind of lost composure throughout that game. What happened?
14:21Jimmy knows that, Micah, also, on the run, you're going to suffer sometimes.
14:27They suffered in the group stage, or in the league, shall I say, obviously.
14:32But they're going to suffer along the way, somewhere, and they suffered tonight.
14:37I remember when we won in 0-9, we suffered in Lyon. We got battered. We just made it 1-1.
14:45It should have been 2-3 to 4-0. Benzema had chances. Makoon had some chances.
14:50I don't know what happened to us that night, but we came back in the game 1-1. We made it 1-1, just barely.
14:57And then we went home, and then home, it was a different ball game.
15:00But it's going to happen away from home in Europe. It will happen.
15:03You have to dig deep and make sure that you can go through.
15:07You're not going to ease your way of lifting that trophy. It's not always the case.
15:13So you know the way you say that that could have affected Aston Villa had it gone badly for Aston Villa
15:18and been a wide aggregate loss for them tonight. Does that affect PSG in any way?
15:22Because they can see three goals for the first time this season. Does it shape the confidence?
15:26I think it was the first time it's happened this season. So I think they've done so well this season.
15:31I think they've put that down to a hiccup, almost like, almost forget it really happened in some ways.
15:37And almost give credit to Aston Villa. And as Thierry said, in a cup competition,
15:41anyone who wins a cup competition, the best team don't always necessarily win a cup competition
15:45because you need a little bit of luck. Now, they've had a little bit of fortune there.
15:48You look at the chances that they missed at the end of the game.
15:50But, you know, me and Thierry and any other teams or players you can think of, you think of a game there.
15:57Actually, the final. You think of the chance Shevchenko missed his last kick of the game.
16:01You know, he's never going to miss that again if he gets that chance.
16:04So you always have those moments and that, as Thierry's rightly said, that might be theirs.
16:09Well, it still could potentially be a fantastic season for PSG.
16:12They could still win a treble. They could still go invincible in the league.
16:16They've already won the league title, but could still end up invincible.
16:18I mean, it could be a very special season for PSG if they can hold their nerve.
16:22Very special. It's very unusual when you have a lot of teams, by the way,
16:25teams in the Champions League that can do the treble.
16:29We're very fortunate to have that this year in the Champions League.
16:32PSG, Barca, Real, Inter.
16:35And Inter, yeah.
16:36Punch case.
16:38Just for anyone at home who was wondering.
16:40No, it's just like, look, if they stay unbeaten in the league, it would be something great.
16:46But what they're chasing, really, really, is the Champions League for a very long time.
16:52And, you know, that's not...
16:53I don't think that that game everyone's going to go, oh, you know what?
16:57We saw this or we saw that.
16:58It happened.
16:59Villa responded.
17:00It wasn't enough.
17:02And I don't think that PSG will be so upset about it.
17:08The manager will.
17:10That's a different ball game.
17:11The manager will.
17:13But the fans will just be happy to finally go again in the semi-final and maybe having a chance to win it.
17:20Well, Terry's right.
17:21The Champions League has long been the holy grail for PSG.
17:24They are now one step closer.
17:26They're into the Final Four.
17:27They got the job done, perhaps not on the night, but over the course of two legs against Aston Villa.
17:31They're into the semis against either Arsenal or Real.
17:34We'll find out who tomorrow.
17:35We'll find out who tomorrow is going to be the winner of the Champions League.
17:59Everyone, welcome back, everybody.
18:00So good to have you still with us.
18:01So PSG are through to the Champions League semi-finals after a 5-4 aggregate win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
18:07We can take you over to Villa Park right now where we are joined by Ashraf.
18:13No, we're not.
18:13We can't.
18:14We can't.
18:15We're trying to get sound connected to Ashraf Hakimi, who's over there waiting to do an interview with us.
18:20But he's not ready yet or we're not ready.
18:22So anyway, it'll be good to talk to him when he gets here.
18:26What did you think of his game tonight?
18:28Well, he usually does what he does.
18:30He's very good defensively and offensively is a problem, is a weapon.
18:36What they do have, we talked and Jamie mentioned, you know, Mendes being one of the, you said, best left-back in the world.
18:43But Hakimi is not far from being the best right-back in the world when you think about it.
18:47Because he can do it going forward, going obviously to defend.
18:54But the way, and we're going to talk about it, Jamie and Mike, after, the way he's allowed to go inside.
19:00And we've seen it now.
19:01It's a thing.
19:02Pep did start that, by the way, sending the full-back inside.
19:07But they do it also on the other side.
19:08It becomes very complicated.
19:10But he's so good on the ball and he can finish well also.
19:14And, you know, his football IQ is not bad either.
19:19So it's just great to see him play.
19:21He's fantastic, isn't he?
19:22He's unbelievable.
19:23Take us to Hakimi, please.
19:24Yes, let's go.
19:25Let's go over there.
19:26Ashraf Hakimi, hopefully you can hear us now.
19:28We've been waiting to speak to you.
19:29Congratulations.
19:30Hakimi!
19:32Welcome to the show.
19:38How are you guys?
19:39We're good.
19:39How are you?
19:40I'm good.
19:41I'm good.
19:41I'm happy.
19:42Good.
19:42Are you happy?
19:43Because obviously you don't get the job done on the night, but on aggregate you get that 5-4 win.
19:47You know you're going to the semi-finals.
19:48How do you feel about tonight's game in general?
19:51I feel great.
19:53Of course, a little bit like nervous in the end, but we make it.
19:57We make it in the semi-final and we're really happy.
20:02Ashraf, it's Thierry.
20:04We're going to carry on in English because, yeah.
20:07As-salamu alaykum.
20:08As-salamu alaykum.
20:09As-salamu alaykum.
20:10I just wanted to ask you something.
20:13First and foremost, congratulations, but I wanted to ask you something.
20:16How much do you like the possibility when you go forward to be able to go
20:21inside all the way and participate in an attack?
20:27I feel really good.
20:28You know, the coach gave me the freedom to move around.
20:32When we have the position, he said for me,
20:35like a big inside or open like that, we can create the space and create a movement with the team.
20:41And I feel really good there.
20:45And I can be close to the goal like today and help the team in that position.
20:55What did that mean for the rest of us?
20:56Thank you, thank you.
20:57Ah, OK, got it.
20:58Sorry, didn't know.
20:58Yeah, that's language.
20:59Hakimi, big beaks here.
21:01How you doing, my man?
21:02I've been a fan for a long, long time.
21:04But the way you are performing right now is top, top level.
21:10I'm thinking you've got to be in the top two right-backs in the world now.
21:14Is that something that you feel you're doing?
21:18Thank you, thank you for your words.
21:21I don't think a lot that I let you guys to decide who is the best or who is in the top two.
21:26But I try to do my job. I try to enjoy the people who like football. I'm really happy with that.
21:36No, no, no. I mean, OK, you know, we'll do the talking for you.
21:39Who is the top two?
21:40No problem at all.
21:41But we've got to ask you, you know, have you seen the show? Have you seen the clips?
21:45You must see the clips. We go viral every single week.
21:50Yeah, but tell me your top two.
21:52Yeah, it's a good question. I want to hear the answer too.
21:54Oh! Who is the top two?
21:56Tren, oh!
21:57Hakeemi, you are spot on, absolutely brilliant. If he's in the top two, who's the other one?
22:02Yeah.
22:03Ooh...
22:06I'm going to go...
22:07Say, say.
22:08Yeah, you see what I'm saying now?
22:11You've got to look up in me! Stop the little star!
22:16I like Trent, I like Trent.
22:18Ooh, he's gone for Trent, Trent.
22:20Yeah, good player, good player.
22:22Yeah.
22:23I mean, Hakeemi, I want to ask you about the difference in the team.
22:27You look like the best team in maybe Europe at this moment in the past.
22:32You've had maybe the biggest names in world football, but now it feels more like a team.
22:37Do you think that gives you a greater opportunity to win the competition this season?
22:41I think we are really confident. I think since two years right now, we work a lot.
22:50We improve a lot and we are in the way to become a big team.
22:54And we are again in the semi-final and we want to show everyone that the Paris Saint-Germain is a big team, a big club.
23:03And we're going to fight for all the titles that we can.
23:05Hakeemi! You're the best! You're my number one! Don't worry! You're my number one!
23:13Very quick question before you go, who do you expect to play in the semi-finals?
23:16Will it be Arsenal or Real Madrid?
23:18I don't know. Both teams are really good and if we want to go and we win the Champions League, we have to win all the big teams and we are ready for that.
23:28True that. All right, perfect. Thank you so much for coming up with us.
23:31Good luck!
23:33Can I just ask you, why do you always change your accent when you speak to players? Just speak normal English!
23:41But why do you two also use people's last names to talk to them? Why don't you call them both?
23:45Why don't you call them both? I was very worried about pronouncing his first names right.
23:49I'm going with Hakeemi. Did you win Hakeemi?
23:51I was thinking, Ashra, I could easily get that wrong. Wow.
23:55He was laughing at me there when I was asking a question.
23:57I just thought it was funny that you called him Hakeemi, yeah. Oh!
24:00He'd win Hakeemi!
24:02What happened to you? What to me? Big day.
24:05You didn't have an answer for that or did you get put on the spot? What happened?
24:08I've heard someone say like top five or top three. Where's the top two?
24:12I just thought I'd change it up. We do things differently.
24:14Did you think about the other one? You didn't...
24:16I didn't...
24:17Did you think you offended him?
24:18I thought about it, but I didn't want to say it. I didn't want to, you know...
24:21We might speak to other people down the line, you know what I mean?
24:24Yeah, yeah. Keep everyone happy.
24:25So I said top two.
24:26I said that before, the game kicked off. You like to keep everyone happy, don't you?
24:29Oh, OK, yeah.
24:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
24:31Yeah, it works.
24:32OK, cool.
24:33It works.
24:34We are going to go to a very quick break, everybody. We'll be back.
24:39We are going to bring you some analysis from that game up at the big screen in just a second.
24:44And also Barcelona, we haven't brought you the goals from that one either. We'll be back in just a second.
24:51Welcome back, everybody. Good to have you still with us.
25:06So PSG through to the semifinals of the Champions League at the expense of Aston Villa.
25:10The game played at Villa Park tonight, the second leg of this quarterfinal.
25:13The boys are going to break down some of the key moments from that game between Villa and PSG.
25:17Yeah, it is great what Luis Enrique is doing for the team. We talk with Ashraf Hakimi about him being allowed to go inside.
25:24But they do something interesting on the left with Fabian Ries and Nuno Mendes, as you're going to see.
25:31That happens more often on the left. This is Fabian Ries on the ball and Nuno Mendes.
25:36And you will understand why we will pause it here, why Nuno Mendes will end up being where he is.
25:41Because he's allowed. Technically, Fabian Ries, if you release it now, play it.
25:46Fabian Ries will be now in the left back position. And yes, people will say they overplay, they try to play.
25:52Hakimi comes here and then you will see what he does after.
25:55Yes, he could have been an interception and people will tell me they overplay time, they overplay for this.
26:00Now, Hakimi goes back inside. Nuno Mendes, look at where he is.
26:04He was allowed to be here because Fabian Ries was playing as a left back.
26:08Wait, roll it please. Now, roll it. I will, I never really saw that. If you pause it now.
26:18This is why it's hard to play against Paris Saint-Germain. If you overgo, wingers high and wide.
26:22Your two full back from you from building are inside. He will make a run and he will finish like any good number nine with his left foot from an assist from Dembele.
26:35You can roll it. As you can see here, your right back makes a run. The other one finishes. Same pattern.
26:44Fabian Ries goes as a left back. Nuno Mendes can be higher. Hakimi again will sprint to go inside.
26:50This time Dembele, Varaskelia and Barcola are there. Nuno Mendes, you can see here, top of the screen, can go higher.
26:58I repeat because Fabian Ries is in the left back position. Roll it.
27:04Pause. Very important. Now, that's Nuno Mendes. He was inside before. Barcola was on the high side.
27:10So you understand that when they are low, the pair is here. If he goes low, you go high.
27:17If he's on the outside, you're inside. If you're inside, if he's on the outside, sorry, you're inside. Roll it.
27:24And they nearly did something that I've really seen. Again, building from the back.
27:28Pause. He would have been tapping inside your right back, your full back.
27:34It is so hard to play against Paris Saint-Germain. They offer so many options.
27:39You don't know who does what. And Hakimi and Nuno Mendes, this is why for me, they defend well and they can do that too.
27:46Is that just a manager thing, Thierry? Or this manager, Enrique? Or do you look to deploy that as well as a modern coach?
27:54Because normally, my day, wing backs or full backs on the outside. Now you've seen a lot of people going in the inside.
28:00Well, Pep started that trend with the…
28:04Cancelo.
28:05He did it first with Dani Alves.
28:07Alves, yeah.
28:08I was there. I remember we played away at Real Madrid. And he did that. I was like, what is he doing?
28:12And now you educate your full back to play that way. But when you look at it and you see Nuno Mendes, like we talked about it, being in a number nine position that early.
28:21But when you think about it, if they lose the ball, Fabian Ruiz is in a left back position. You're not out of shape.
28:27I think basically, I think football in the last sort of four or five years, it's always been about getting a five on the last line, a front five.
28:34And in the past, when you said Pep had bring someone into midfield alongside one of us holding midfield players, the two number eights then has almost become like two number tens.
28:42You'd have two wingers, centre foot, two number tens. So it's almost like, OK, people are aware of that now. So it's almost trying to surprise people by players popping up in positions that they're not used to.
28:52So I see Liverpool do that a lot, where their actual full backs end up on the last line but inside. But it's still about getting like a front five, isn't it?
28:59So every time you look at the Paris Saint-Germain clubs there, it's about front five. So they're actually, what you've said in the past, maybe the wingers go on the outside and the full backs go on the outside.
29:08The wingers come inside, maybe with a centre foot, you've got a five. Now this is just doing it slightly different but it's always about trying to get five attackers on the last line.
29:15Would you be comfortable, you've played a lot of games centre back but you've played some games at right back as well, would you be comfortable doing that, what the full backs are doing now?
29:22No, I wouldn't have been capable of doing that. I mean I wasn't really capable of getting four and getting crosses in to be honest but the way they are now, I famously said who would grow up and want to be a full back?
29:33No one was talking to my mate Gary Neville but what you're asking of full backs now, they're almost looking as important as everybody in this team.
29:41But I mean you're throwing it to me but I was a centre back who played the odd game of full backs, you were a full back.
29:46You would have enjoyed it.
29:47Yeah, I was a full back but I think that nowadays they have more technical qualities on the ball. So my game was sort of…
29:55Is that something you lack him?
29:56No, to a certain extent yes, I would actually agree with you. So when I played with David Silva, he would go inside, I would go outside just to be basically the decoy so he could get on the ball there.
30:08And I wasn't a great cross to the ball but what was really good is just fizzing it across the box, getting it into the area.
30:13But this and what I'm seeing now with these full backs, it's just, it's different level.
30:17And that's why I think you're seeing now the likes of Trent, the likes of Hakimi, the other side.
30:22They're just going for so much money now because it's more than just defending isn't it? You need to do the other side as well.
30:28We're talking about Trent, like we talked about the full back going in and I think we talked about it. What Luis Enrique does, what Pep usually does, sorry.
30:38And Simone Inzaghi, you remember we covered it?
30:43Yeah.
30:44You remember when they are in possession, the three old midfielders are playing as centre backs and the centre backs are a bit everywhere.
30:50You could have done what Dumfries does.
30:53You know what I mean? If you balance, if the team is well balanced, you can go forward.
30:59And I know, again, we talked about it sometimes, it can be dangerous because you can be out of position if the team loses the ball.
31:07But why not? Look, they got their reward, even taking big risk against Villa.
31:12I like it. Shall we sit down back now?
31:14Yes, come back down because production have actually put together some other footage that they'd like us to have a look at.
31:19But come on down, let's take a look at this, we've got some other stuff to break down for you.
31:23Because I don't know if you remember, it was a while back, I can't remember what game it was when Miles came through the studio and sunned you, Jamie.
31:30Do you remember this, gave you a rub on the head like that?
31:32Yeah.
31:33When was this? Who remembers it?
31:34Yeah.
31:35Oh, the one, one.
31:36What we're wondering, we're wondering, or production is wondering, have you held a grudge or are you just particularly high maintenance tonight?
31:43What's going on? Because there's been some footage around of Jamie, well, Jamie's interactions with Miles. Let's take a listen.
31:50Oh.
31:51Are you going to charge him, mate?
31:53Er, in my bag, he's done it.
31:55Yeah, if possible, mate.
31:57Er, to the boot. Yeah, I brought it.
31:59Leo, have you got a charger anyway?
32:01If you just stand still and stay square...
32:04Miles, where have you been for the last couple of weeks, man?
32:06You know I was that child, didn't you?
32:08That's five years ago.
32:10It was really good fun.
32:18Is there any of them, like, celebrations?
32:20Er, I'll need them really quick, cos that's piping hot, that's just warming.
32:25Yeah, I know.
32:28People don't like hot tea, but they just don't do this.
32:34You're a diva.
32:38You're a diva, aren't you?
32:39Yeah, I was tonight.
32:40My man.
32:41I apologise, but...
32:42What's up, Miles?
32:43Miles, come on down, come on down.
32:45You've got to come now.
32:46Come on down.
32:47Oh, what?
32:48Do you forgive him, Miles?
32:49Come here, we don't sit, come on.
32:50Come here, Jamie.
32:51Come here.
32:52I know, let's give us some background info.
32:54Is Jamie perhaps the most difficult...
32:55Miles, come here.
32:56Miles, come here.
32:57Come here.
32:58Can't see you properly.
32:59Sit.
33:00Do you find Jamie the most demanding of all the talent on set?
33:03Yeah, I would probably say so.
33:06On the best.
33:07What's with the Lego?
33:08Let him be, let him be!
33:10He's just comfortable.
33:11Leave him alone.
33:12There was two people, I believe, who sent back their teas today.
33:15Was there on set?
33:16Micah and I, not one of them, I believe.
33:18I sent back a tea.
33:20I drank it.
33:21Oh, did you drink it?
33:22Drink it, but just complain.
33:23Don't reply, it's OK.
33:24What I'm saying is he rubbed me, that's all forgotten, but he went missing.
33:29He's been missing for a couple of weeks.
33:31And Liverpool beat Everton, didn't he, a few weeks or when I haven't seen you since then.
33:34Oh, that's true.
33:35Oh, that's why you've not been here.
33:36Any thoughts on that, Miles?
33:38No, I'm very unlucky, I thought.
33:41At the end of the day, Jamie, congratulations on the quality total.
33:47Thank you, Miles.
33:49Who's your favourite on the show, mate?
33:50Oh, great question.
33:51Thierry.
33:52Oh!
33:53I'm quite delighted to him alongside Wayne Rooney, so he'd have to be my favourite.
33:59So it's between Wayne and Thierry.
34:00Who's your least favourite on the show?
34:02Wayne and Thierry.
34:03Probably Wayne.
34:04Oh!
34:05Whoa!
34:06Because I'm an Evertonian, so...
34:08It's got to be Wayne.
34:09You've got to be Wayne.
34:10You've got to be Wayne, really, haven't you?
34:11Yeah.
34:12But not far behind, obviously.
34:13Thank you, thank you.
34:14I'm so happy.
34:15Who's the best defender on the show?
34:18Oh!
34:19Michael Richards, don't you?
34:20Yeah!
34:21He wasn't Evertonian.
34:23He was.
34:25Before he changed.
34:27So, Miles, do you like Jamie or not?
34:33We just have a bit of banter.
34:35We always get on pretty well.
34:37A little bit of back and forward, don't we, about the football?
34:39Yeah.
34:40Bit of Liverpool and Everton, isn't he?
34:41Yeah.
34:42All the time.
34:43Yeah.
34:44You think, you told me Paul McCartney's singing at Goodison...
34:46That's apparently the rumour, yeah.
34:48But that is a big rumour.
34:49All right.
34:50Did you start that rumour?
34:51Well, can we stop it?
34:52Miles, we've got to go off the show, so...
34:53We've got to go.
34:54Does Paul McCartney know anything about this?
34:55No, no, we've got to...
34:57Jamie, we've got to let him go.
34:58OK.
34:59Miles.
35:00Always good to have your part.
35:01Miles.
35:02Yes.
35:03Miles.
35:04I like Miles.
35:05Yes.
35:06I'm there.
35:07OK, we're going to go to a break.
35:08No, we're not.
35:09We're not.
35:10We're not done.
35:11OK, sorry, my bad.
35:12Arsenal...
35:13Wait, what?
35:14Barcelona and Dortmund.
35:15Barcelona and Dortmund.
35:16Let's talk about that one.
35:17So, Barcelona came in, 4-0 up on aggregate.
35:20But Dortmund made a game of this one.
35:22Let's go through the action from this game.
35:23Here we go.
35:24Jamie, do you want to pick up first?
35:25Yeah, the penalty incident.
35:26It was just played onside, actually.
35:28Barcelona tried to, you know, hold the line on the edge of the box.
35:31A lot of the defenders thought it was offside.
35:33It wasn't.
35:34You just see the full-back.
35:35It's Koundé there, playing him onside.
35:37And the goalkeeper just has a rush of blood.
35:39I just don't understand why goalkeepers do this.
35:41I can never get my head round.
35:43They come flying out.
35:44And the attacker gets there first, and it's a certain penalty.
35:47And it was a really good penalty.
35:49Gracias.
35:50Yeah.
35:51What would you call that as a penalty?
35:54Is that still a penalty if you hit it that hard?
35:56It is, it is, it is.
35:58It is, you can see.
36:00But he doesn't do it with his toes.
36:02He does it a bit where, you know, he goes under.
36:04He didn't chip it properly.
36:06That's Adeyemi's chance.
36:09And again, we're talking about how Barcelona holds that line.
36:13We've been saying that they are suspicious when they do that.
36:17And, you know, we all know what they can do offensively.
36:20They came with the team.
36:22Only Pedro didn't start.
36:23And you can see when Pedro doesn't start.
36:25But, look, overall...
36:27The chances kept coming, didn't they?
36:29Look at the line, look at the line.
36:30It could have been the ball already for Bayern, I think it was.
36:32But, yeah, Adeyemi.
36:34Adeyemi with a chance comes back.
36:37I think it's Gross there with a second chance.
36:40But there's a high line.
36:41There's exactly.
36:42And that's what we want to analyse.
36:44Barcelona.
36:45Well, certainly, because that is their weak point.
36:48But Dortmund played really, really well.
36:52And then the big man, Garassi.
36:56And you know what?
36:57He let me down a little bit because he should have scored more in the first leg.
37:01Could have made more of a game of it.
37:03But he's a proper striker.
37:05His movement in the box is outstanding.
37:07His awareness.
37:08I mean, people think he's a tap-in, but it's where he positions himself
37:12that makes him such a good player.
37:14And then...
37:15You could feel that Barcelona at that moment was going to go back in the game.
37:18Let's all be honest, maybe not like this.
37:20Yeah, it's very unfortunate for Ben Savani.
37:24But, again, the line is a bit also suspicious there.
37:27But, anyway, anyhow, you know, that's very unfortunate.
37:32And a big goal, actually.
37:34Yeah, and then that man, Garassi, gets the hat-trick.
37:37The perfect hat-trick.
37:38Right foot, left foot.
37:40And the header was part of his three.
37:42So, even though they've gone out, he's not going to forget this night.
37:45Getting a hat-trick.
37:46The perfect hat-trick against Barcelona.
37:49And that's the one with his left foot.
37:51Bang!
37:52And that's a man with confidence.
37:53Real confidence.
37:54Maybe a little bit lacking over after what happened last week.
37:56But with the two goals, he just lashes that in with his weaker foot.
38:01Good.
38:07Okay, so, Champions League top scorers.
38:09Take a look who's top of the list.
38:10BVB, Borussia Dortmund, Serhau.
38:13Serhau, I'm getting it all wrong.
38:15Sorry.
38:16Serhau Girassi with 13 goals.
38:17Obviously, you can't add to that tally now because Borussia Dortmund out.
38:19But a fantastic season for him.
38:21Amazing, especially when you know the story of Girassi and where he was playing and how much he had to battle.
38:29He had an outstanding season at Stuttgart in France.
38:32At times, people didn't believe that he could be that type of player.
38:36But, you know, when you battle, you can always make something out of it.
38:39And, yeah, for him to be there.
38:41I didn't doubt it.
38:42In all fairness, Mike has said it before.
38:44I've been following him for a very long time.
38:46He's old school nine.
38:47Very much like, you know, a Diane Dublin type of striker.
38:51I like him a lot.
38:54And especially the way he had to battle throughout his career.
38:58Oh, OK, we're going to go to a very quick break, everybody.
39:02We'll be back.
39:03Oh, Diane, deal.
39:04Oh, yeah.
39:05That's a good one.
39:06We'll be back in a second.
39:07Diane, deal.
39:08See you in a minute, everybody.
39:12We'll be back.
39:13Tomorrow, a pair of heavyweight showdowns will decide the last two semi-final places.
39:34At the San Siro, Inter Milan are going to look to defend their one-goal lead over Bayern Munich.
39:39And at the Bernabeu, can Arsenal close out the defending champions?
39:43Or will Real Madrid, even by their legendary standards, produce an epic comeback win?
39:48You can catch both of those matches live on Paramount+.
39:50Or if you prefer, you can second screen both games at once on the multicast stream available for you exclusively on Paramount+.
39:58Coverage begins at 2 p.m. Eastern.
40:00We'll be back in just a second after this break.
40:09Hi, everybody.
40:19Welcome back.
40:20So, there is a big game at the Bernabeu tomorrow in Real Madrid.
40:23Jude Bellingham has spoken to the media ahead of that game.
40:25Let's listen in to what he had to say.
40:27Premantara.
40:28Honestly, I've heard it about a million times since last week.
40:33I've seen a million videos online and made by fans, made by kind of you guys, I suppose.
40:40And, yeah, really motivating stuff.
40:43It's a night that's made for Real Madrid.
40:47For some reason, everyone thinks it's nailed on that we'll come back.
40:51And it's a nice feeling, I have to say.
40:53It means there's a lot of trust in the talent.
40:55It means that you're at a club that's unlike no other, the best in the world.
40:59That's what it represents and signifies to me.
41:01So, yeah, there's a pressure that comes along with that for sure.
41:05And we'll want to deliver on what everyone thinks that we can come back.
41:08And that's obviously the goal for us.
41:11But, yeah, there is a pressure about it.
41:12And that's what it's all about, isn't it?
41:14So, 3-0 down against Arsenal.
41:17We're playing at home in Madrid.
41:19La remontada.
41:20Do we see it, Micah?
41:22Do we see it?
41:25Maybe.
41:26Maybe.
41:27Depends.
41:28If they score in the first 20 minutes, yes, it can happen.
41:33But they need to score early.
41:35I don't think they need to score early.
41:36I think the more the game grows, the more frustrated Real Madrid become
41:41and Arsenal can catch them on a counter-attack.
41:43But if they score early doors, it's backs against the wall stuff.
41:46I think they need to have scored a goal before the 60th minute.
41:49Mm-hm.
41:50And they've got to give themselves half an hour to get through.
41:52Very precise.
41:53Very specific predictions.
41:54Any reason for the 60th minute?
41:56Because I think half an hour is enough time.
41:58If you go for it to get two goals at the Berna.
42:00We see them score two goals in, what was it, a minute?
42:02Or five minutes against Man City a few years ago.
42:04What we saw tonight.
42:05I think Villa got two goals in three or four minutes.
42:08I think these have to give themselves, yeah, not sort of 15 minutes or so.
42:13I think a good half an hour needing two goals is enough.
42:16They don't need to go mad at the start.
42:17You want to start quick, build up some momentum, try and get the early goal,
42:20of course, but one nil after an hour or a half time is fine.
42:23Mm.
42:24Could be a very special night for Arsenal.
42:25Obviously that's what you'll be hoping for.
42:27The other game as well is super interesting as well.
42:29Inter at home at the San Siro.
42:302-1 up against Bayern after the first leg in Germany.
42:33That one feels tightly, kind of finely poised, doesn't it?
42:37I think it's still...
42:38There is a lot that can happen in this game,
42:40especially with the way Bayern Munich did open up Inter Milan.
42:43I've seen Inter Milan conceding chances,
42:46but never been open like they were open against Bayern Munich
42:51and full create to Bayern Munich and Venson Kompany
42:53for setting up his team the way he did.
42:55So that's why I think this game is far from being over.
42:59OK, everybody.
43:00Unfortunately, it's all we've got time for today.
43:03It was fun to be here with you.
43:04See you tomorrow, big game.
43:05We'll look forward to you tomorrow.
43:06Big games, big names.
43:07Stick with us.
43:08Good night, everybody.
43:09See you tomorrow.
43:10Good night.
43:11Ooh.
