00:00Hi, I'm Daisy Edgar-Jones from the movie On Swift Horses
00:02and we're taking a deeper look into my character, Muriel.
00:09The arc of Muriel and her journey is so anchored by her meeting Julius
00:14and so I think it's quite beautiful that the first time she meets him
00:17she's her most stripped back, her most kind of undone self.
00:22Especially in a time like the 50s where personal appearances
00:24and being together as a woman were so important and valued
00:28and so I think, yeah, seeing him topless, smoking
00:31and her kind of catching him in this moment of undress
00:35I think is kind of, yeah, so exciting to begin that journey.
00:44I think Muriel is someone that is probably quite underestimated
00:48especially when she's working in the diner
00:50she's sort of unassuming, she's there to serve
00:54she's not somebody you would think that would kind of take this information
00:57and use it to rebel and I think it's just a beautiful story of like
01:00we never know what's going on underneath, we never know what's going on with somebody
01:03and I think her relationship to gambling and betting
01:09is kind of the beginning with her relationship to her exploration of her sexuality
01:13and her sort of journey to rebelling against the way that society thinks she should behave
01:18and so, yeah, I love it because you just don't expect it from Muriel
01:21that she takes this and she goes and she bets and she starts to kind of
01:24push the boundaries in a really cool way
01:27Yes, Muriel's first racetrack visit
01:35I love
01:36she's, you know, desperate not to be seen or recognised
01:40especially by the men that she's seen waitressing
01:43she's kind of really trying to blend in
01:46so I have this kind of scarf and glasses look
01:48which I think is gorgeous
01:50if I were wearing that, I'm not sure I'd blend in
01:52but for Muriel, it's a kind of attempt to hide and observe without being observed
01:56Yeah, I mean, that racetrack look, it's like this black look and she's got her lipstick on
02:07and she's sort of beginning to have some success in this gambling world
02:12and she's beginning to kind of feel herself
02:14I love the interactions with the character of Gale
02:16because she's this woman who, she really like spots Muriel
02:20and she really kind of sees through the guard that Muriel's got up
02:24and so, yeah, I think this outfit is the first time that she's really
02:27she's got money, she can buy herself clothes
02:29and she feels beautiful
02:31and she's kind of owning her space
02:34and owning her journey of self-discovery
02:37so, yeah, I absolutely love that look
02:43I think my favourite look in the whole movie is this gorgeous blue dress that I wore
02:47it's the first time that Muriel discovers this whole new world that she didn't know existed
02:52I just remembered putting that dress on and feeling really beautiful in it
02:57it was so made to fit and gorgeous, so yeah
03:02it's one of my favourite scenes in the whole film as well
03:04between her and Gale when the lights go off
03:06and it's this sort of tense moment where they hear the police outside
03:09and they're worried they're going to be discovered
03:10and it's so charged and beautiful and sad
03:13so, yeah, it's probably that look and that scene are two of my favourites
