00:00hi everyone this is Manjusha Radhakrishnan I am with Maryam Azmi ever wondered what it is to
00:17make a beautiful mansion I have the answers for you she's going to reveal all her secrets
00:22Maryam let's go straight for the juggler how do we make our first million wow straight to the
00:28point huh very interesting I mean um honestly I would say follow your dreams but work hard
00:33nothing comes easily then this is part of life I mean this is uh anything you work for comes
00:39you work you work for money it comes you work you work for uh your health it comes you go to
00:45gym you get your biceps and triceps but with money it's just as a slight tweak in it never have your
00:52target or your goal is I want this money or I want to become rich if you have this target this goal
00:57I don't think it works so you need to work for other things you need to work for success you
01:02need to work for uh your own self-motivation you need to work to be part of society you need to
01:07work for something that interests you you know and then the money will follow you right it will come
01:13it will come it will come for sure and it will follow you for sure great and Maryam you were
01:17born into a construction family yes we would call you a nepo baby I mean just say I mean a talented
01:24one I mean surprisingly speaking not just like my father is civil engineer my mother is a civil
01:29engineer which is not common you don't usually have people coming from Egypt as a civil engineer
01:33my brother is a civil engineer my uncle is eventually and my grandfather is a civil engineer so everybody
01:39is and you are I'm not I love it you're the people officer right the chief people officer what does a
01:46chief people officer do taking care of the people which is the most important thing of each and every
01:53company because what makes or breaks a company is its people and without people you cannot do anything
01:59so I take care actually quite some time ago about two years ago I was thinking of like reworking and
02:06editing part of like we keep on reworking on on the department on the people department so I was
02:12thinking of changing my title to chief happiness officer yes of course no no that is a thing as well
02:17right yeah because right now I think your biggest resource are the human minds as well with AI coming in
02:23etc how do we keep them happy mental health is a huge issue do you do you look into that as well
02:28of course mental health is big and part of the I mean in in at our work we do a lot of initiatives so a big
02:36part of the initiative in at work is mental health and we have actually we just signed up about a couple of
02:44years ago with the firm the main idea of the firm is mental health that you can give them call at any
02:51point of time 24 hours they're open different you know professors at different times of stages
02:57depends on what you want for example if you want to quit smoking for example you can give them a call
03:01and tell them what's your case how long been smoking one how what you want to do and they can guide you
03:07and tell you what to do actually you're right if you've lost a very dear friend or or a soul mate you
03:13can give them a call and tell them your situation and they can tell you what you can do so it's such a
03:18nice service and that has been used quite frequently not just for the person who's working in the firm but
03:24also his family member so the wife and the kids as well uh marim i have to ask you you are also very
03:29you bat for women in construction industry because my husband is a civil engineer again uh but i doubt
03:37if i have met many of his female colleagues maybe couple uh yes but i i see him talking mostly to men
03:44yeah that's quite interesting are they less women well first of all good for you
03:47somebody's earning yeah thank god yeah no but on a serious note worldwide not just here in dubai
03:55worldwide construction industry is a male dominated industry that's a fact but what i did is like
04:01joining the construction a couple years ago i i i tried my best to uh for posts that can have
04:09male and female i try to give an advantage for male for the female uh applicants rather than the
04:16name for diversity and diversity and gender exactly so for example like in human resources for example
04:21it can be a male or female because you choose female so i i would rather choose a female if there's
04:26applicant that's suitable if they're both on par and she's a female i would take her and clearly i
04:31would mention because you're a female right uh marian you have been born into a lap of luxury i'm
04:35assuming by the time you came into the world by the time yes your your dad was well off etc
04:40what's your relationship with money when you're born into money um i mean i mean my it's all about
04:48your parents okay so and it's all about your upbringing uh with my parents and they the way
04:54they brought me up actually is that um money was a luxury and we use money just for for things that we
05:01need uh okay not we want and uh it was open i mean my parents gave me an open hand anytime i needed
05:07money for anything i could just open the drawer and take the money so they were not that like
05:12tough or strict on money and so we never had this attachment so strongly with money that's so
05:17interesting they just let you be and that you had a not yeah that that's interesting that you say
05:22they gave you a free reign yeah yet you did not exactly did you go through a phase where you blew up
05:28money your dad's money never you never never i never misused it i was never taken money was not
05:33taken away from me and money was not like uh um something like a difficult thing to get it was
05:38just there okay literally when i was in university for example in university there was a drawer i know
05:44the drawer has much money and whenever we need something or there's a electricity bill or something
05:49or whatever or you need to pay something you just take it out and you pay what about with your own kids
05:54do you have that kind of relationship what do you tell them because things are different now
05:58their access to social media is different what they could do with money is different things are very
06:02different now and since my kids were born they had like luxury and wealth and everything so i with my
06:09kids i tried to make them feel the value of money strongly like try to instill it in them because i
06:15don't want them to believe that money is something that can come easily because it's not true but if
06:20they were born they find money all over and like wealth let's say no they will find they will think
06:25that money a wealth it comes just as a given and i want to tell them no it's not and you can
06:30easily lose it so i want them to be as careful as possible right indians love a good home for us that
06:36is like a one thing they tell get married buy a home it's almost like a bucket list are egyptians
06:42similar in culture very similar the home is your very similar the home is you and the home is
06:48representing you and you as a character as nature so it's a very similar culture by the way really
06:53yeah okay talking of my when i got married years ago i talking of my a gift from my dad was my home
06:59back in the days when i got married oh really in dubai in dubai oh that's amazing so they give you
07:04as well they got me a gift yeah really okay you have to tell me about your emirates home how is it
07:10shaping up is good it is i mean i mean that's the true address right the home in nemesis i've knocked it
07:16down already and i've done the piling and now we're doing the construction so i mean i'm getting
07:21so excited you know i mean i'm my mind is past the construction phase and now i'm in the interior
07:27designing and decorating it all in my mind you know it's already chosen the furniture and i'm just
07:32you know a couple of steps ahead okay so hopefully one year from now it will be up and running excellent
07:38and i hope the money keeps coming since your relationship with money is quite democratic i think
07:43right i mean it comes it goes it comes it goes it's the most important thing is it shouldn't be
07:48your goal it shouldn't be your goal it's not like money is your goal your goal should be like you know
07:54to work and that comes and that comes so also many people would argue that it comes from a position of
08:00privilege those who did not have money perhaps would look at it differently right i don't think so okay i
08:06don't i wouldn't agree on that because i mean anyone who works hard will will attain money i would find
08:12it very difficult for a person like uh i'll give you just an example my uh um the gentleman who is
08:18to drive for me for years for like 17 years he was my personal driver um he comes from india by the
08:25way uh he uh brought up his daughter he used to send money for his daughter and she graduated from
08:30dentistry yeah lovely and then she went to australia now she's one of the best dentists in australia and
08:35her dad is not even educated oh and of course so she she's in great wealth now so right right it's
08:41also about like you what do you do with the kind of money you make he educated his daughter yeah so
08:46what do you do with the money so education is core of course so exactly what you do with the money so if
08:51you don't have a proper education then it's going to be maybe more challenging but then with the money if
08:55you put proper instill proper education and with that education have a good degree or whatever
09:01bachelor's degree and with that work something hard but working hard is key right and being passionate
09:08in what you do right of course on that note i really hope mariam you're always passionate with homes
09:13and with your job and uh spreading a smile on your employees face as well thank you it's a great job to
09:19have chief happiness officer to be it's not to be not easy though not easy not easy but it's a great
09:25thing i mean it's a resource that you're really looking into human resource it is which is pretty
09:29cool thank you so much
