00:00It was incredible, Mike.
00:01I got to tell you, I was excited for him.
00:05I didn't think he'd win when he missed the four-footer on 18.
00:08I don't know how anyone could ever come back from that
00:11and not let that just absolutely destroy them, ruin them like Pinehurst did.
00:17And then he missed that to win.
00:19I thought he'd lose, but he won.
00:21He birdied 18 on the way back, and he wins the career Grand Slam.
00:27And he finally gets what has eluded him his entire career,
00:3111 times now without a major, 14 times at the Masters.
00:38He finally has the green jacket, Rory McIlroy.
00:41And I was excited because Kathy O and Huey were in heaven
00:45with the Belfast crew drinking whiskey in his honor.
00:51Yeah, it was something else, that's for sure.
00:54Happy Monday here on C2C.
00:57And it, you know, it was quite the event.
01:00Pound for pound, I was thinking about this this morning.
01:04That might have been, and it might be hard to top,
01:07the best sporting event so far this year.
01:09It was better than the Super Bowl.
01:10It was better than the NCAA tournament.
01:12It had ups and downs.
01:14It had rollercoaster rides.
01:16It had history, legacies.
01:18It had everything you could ever possibly want through the course of an afternoon.
01:23And Rory McIlroy ends up winning it at the end.
01:26I didn't have him.
01:27I wasn't rooting for him at the end because I had some other stuff monetary-wise.
01:31But once he won Scotty and it was over,
01:35and you saw, you know, him and the celebration and the jubilation,
01:40it was quite a moment for Rory,
01:42who I've rooted for in the past to do something like this.
01:44And that was super historic, man.
01:47I mean, six guys have done this.
01:50Won every major.
01:52Grand slam of the majors.
01:54And it was weird because I think we all got hyped up.
01:57I know you did.
01:58I did.
01:58Saturday night and Sunday morning, Rory versus Bryson.
02:02Rory versus Bryson.
02:03Rory versus Bryson.
02:04And Rory versus Bryson didn't live up to the hype.
02:07Still, he almost did it.
02:09He had Rose.
02:10Bryson was, I know, Bryson was finished at the turn.
02:14He was done.
02:15He had nothing left in the tank at that point.
02:18And Rory let all those guys who were six shots back going into the day,
02:23back into the tournament.
02:24And it was fun down the stretch.
02:27I can't believe some of the misses that Rory had.
02:30I can't believe some of the shots he made.
02:32The one that I'm astounded by,
02:34I know the one, the bullet he hit on 15 to get that eagle coming down.
02:39I thought his best shot of the day was on seven when that one he hit.
02:44I thought seven for me where he hit it over the trees,
02:48like right in between those two trees.
02:50And it somehow landed right on the stick on seven.
02:53That was an incredible shot.
02:55It was such a crazy day.
02:56It really was.
02:57I was super happy for him based on the suffering he's been through,
03:02the burden they talked about, the weight on his shoulders, the media,
03:07everyone, myself included, saying he never makes these putts.
03:12So when he lined up on 18 for that putt, I was sitting there watching it.
03:16I was texting you and I was like, he's going to miss.
03:19This guy misses short putts.
03:20That's what's going to happen.
03:21He's going to miss it.
03:22And he's going to lose this tournament and he missed it.
03:25And then he won the tournament, which I couldn't even fathom.
03:28Like if I, so we're clear, I played a lot of golf in my life and I was a good golfer.
03:34And I miss a putt like that.
03:36I am cussing for an hour.
03:38I'm done.
03:39But the next hole I'll have a triple.
03:40I mean, I'm done.
03:41If I miss a, if I miss a four footer for,
03:45to win a golf tournament or even just to have a birdie on a hole, right?
03:48A four footer.
03:49I'm done for like five holes.
03:51I mean, I'm going downhill fast, double, double bogey.
03:55I just, I don't know how he did it.
03:58Like it's, it's such a mind F game.
04:01Like you miss a shot.
04:03It can, you know, trail you for a couple holes.
04:07Like, I don't know how he recovered from it.
04:09I really don't.
04:10When he missed the putt, didn't you think he was going to lose after he missed that putt?
04:14And after Rose had made a 40 footer to send it to the playoff.
04:18Like you got to be kidding me that he didn't win after, after leading for two rounds, coming back on the 72nd hole with a 40 footer.
04:27And then the other guy misses a four footer and you lose to him.
04:30I think Rose is the one that blew it.
04:33You got to pounce on the guy to shank the putt left.
04:36You know, what a, what an effort by Rose who really was out.
04:42You thought out of it going into Sunday.
04:44Cause he was actually seven shots back going into the start of the final round.
04:50You know, he made the bomb putt on 18.
04:52He just, he just didn't get that roll back down the hill.
04:55Like Rory did in the playoff, you know, his kind of stuck up there.
04:59And he ended up with the much longer putt, which I thought was makeable, you know, for him.
05:04I know it was a little bit of distance there, but I know Rose is probably going to go through that one in his head.
05:09Despite how long out it was, it was a makeable, but, and Rory just got that role.
05:13He got the spin back on that second shot from out in the fairway.
05:18And he wasn't missing it a second time when it was that close.
05:21There was no way he was going to miss it again.
05:23I thought it was great when he dropped to his knees.
05:26I thought it was great emotion was incredible.
05:29And I've never seen him that cool and happy because it was like a demon had been exercised from him.
05:36He finally was cool.
05:37Cause I think he's in a vacuum most of the time he's all business.
05:42And I like, I like to shambo that he's rowdy and having fun with fans.
05:46Rory doesn't do that unless he wins.
05:48No, no.
05:49And I think that you're going to see a different Rory McIlroy going forward.
05:53I think that this really was the weight of the world on his back wanting to finish this grand slam.
05:58And I said this to you last week, this was the only thing in golf.
06:03He had never done, right?
06:04He's done everything in golf, except when that green jacket, and you know, it bothered the hell out of him for 10 plus years that he wasn't going into that champions locker room, going to that dinner on Tuesday night, walking around.
06:17It bothered him that he wasn't there.
06:19And now he's there and I got to tell you, this could open things up for him.
06:23You know, now that he's got nearly no pressure to ever win anything again, he's won it all.
06:28All he could do now is just stack.
06:30And I got a feeling with no pressure on him.
06:33I think he could stack.
06:34You know, I think there's one more place on his bucket list that he probably wants to win at in his life.
06:39And I think it's still a few years till they go back there.
06:42And that, of course, is St. Andrews.
06:44Whenever the British goes back to St. Andrews, that's probably the one place that's all bucket list for him.
06:49But he's got everything done now.
06:51He's finished.
06:51I think it's still a few days.
