Watch the full fight highlights between Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller and Andy "The Destroyer" Ruiz Jr in this explosive heavyweight clash! Two of boxing's biggest names go head-to-head in an action-packed battle.
Transcript
00:00Ladies and gentlemen, we continue with the big boys of boxing, the heavyweight division.
00:09Let's first welcome to the ring, Jarrell Big Baby Miller.
00:30You know, it's kind of fitting that Jarrell Miller starts his way back up against Andy Ruiz.
00:36In 2019, it was Andy Ruiz that took Jarrell Miller's spot after Miller failed multiple drug tests going into his fight against Anthony Joshua and had the biggest win of his career.
00:48Jarrell told me this week that he did watch that fight.
00:51He watched it at a wedding and he watched it on his skull and he watched it sitting on the toilet.
00:58He watched that win by Andy Ruiz in one of the strangest possible places, but he is extremely motivated, guys, by that night.
01:08Andy Ruiz took what Jarrell Miller won.
01:11Andy Ruiz got the fight against Anthony Joshua and became the unified heavyweight champion.
01:16Even at 36 years old, Jarrell Miller still believes he can get back to the top.
01:20And Miller says if he loses this fight tonight, you can flush his career down the toilet, Sergio.
01:24He says it's all to fight for tonight.
01:27He's got to beat Andy Ruiz.
01:29This is do or die for both these guys.
01:31I mean, Andy Ruiz has been inactive two years.
01:34You know, was he a one-hit wonder if he can get back to the heavyweight championship?
01:37He's had a lot of personal problems in his life, in his career, personal demons that he had to overcome.
01:43Now, big baby Miller, a little bit of a same coming off a knockout loss.
01:48You know, the PED allegations in the past, he has a lot to overcome as well.
01:51This is a perfect matchup for both.
01:53Yeah, look, let's be real, Sergio.
01:54They're not allegations.
01:55He tested positive for multiple fan subs.
01:57And I said to Jarrell Miller during our fighter meetings that there are a lot of people out there,
02:02understandably, that believe that your success is a byproduct of performance enhancement.
02:07He said he is motivated by that.
02:09He had some reasons that he said he has his excuses for why he tested positive those multiple times.
02:14But the reality is, he did test positive for multiple different fights.
02:18Now, he has to prove that he can still be a top-level heavyweight without those assumptions.
02:25I'll tell you what, if he starts boxing and moving, and this is what I love about big baby Miller back in 2018 and 2019 when we were calling his fights.
02:34He's a big man from the waist up, but from the waist down, he moves like a middleweight.
02:39He has a footwork.
02:40He knows how to maneuver.
02:41And then with that big, massive power, if he can come and start boxing like he did back in the day, he can give Andrew Lewis all the problems in the world.
02:49And remember, against Danny Dubois, Drell Miller had a lot of success in the first half of that fight.
02:54He just ran out of gas because his training camp was really short and his weight was really high.
02:58I still think there's a guy that can win a big-time heavyweight fight standing in the ring.
03:11And now, let's welcome to the ring, the former world champion, Andy the Destroyer, Ruiz Jr.
03:41And now, let's go.
04:11Andrew Ruiz, very open this week, especially in his interview with Chris Mannix.
04:15And he said, Chris, I'm just getting goosebumps thinking about being back in the ring.
04:20I'm as nervous as I've ever been.
04:23What did that tell you?
04:25He told me a lot.
04:25Andrew Ruiz is feeling some anxiety about this opportunity, but he did say when he feels that anxiety, he's at his best.
04:35He felt anxious going into that fight against Anthony Joshua, and he had the best performance of his professional career.
04:41The question is, is that fighter at 34 years old still within it?
04:47Can he overcome the kind of layoff he's coming off, the stops and starts, Sergio, that have plagued his career?
04:54That, to me, is the biggest question surrounding Andy Ruiz tonight.
04:57You know, you can channel that nervous energy to do what you practice to do.
05:02I mean, you've been here before.
05:03Anthony Ruiz has been the heavyweight champion of the world by upsetting one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.
05:10Who knows what it takes to become a champion to upset the odds?
05:13This isn't a big of an upset here, but it's a big challenge in Big Baby Middle.
05:18Man, it's really hungry.
05:19This is a 50-50 fight.
05:21You've been saying all night long, every fight I've been doing, every fight I've been competitive, this is just one more of the books.
05:27Andy Ruiz said he had 160 rounds of sparring in this camp.
05:34I may not have fought in almost two years, but I'm fight ready.
05:37Sergio, can you replicate a real fight in the gym?
05:41Every fighter loves to say that, but no, Todd, you cannot replicate the crowds, the lights, and you can't replicate the small gloves.
05:49And you can't, you cannot do that inside the ring.
05:52You can stay sharp, but you can't stay, you can't stay professional sharp like inside the ring.
05:59Once those punches start flying, it's different than sparring.
06:04This is his second straight appearance in L.A.
06:07He beat Luis Ortiz at the Crypto.com Arena in his last fight.
06:12That was in 2022.
06:16The former Unified Heavyweight Champion back in the ring.
06:21Here's Thomas Trivers.
06:22Ladies and gentlemen, this bout is scheduled for 12 rounds in the Heavyweight Division.
06:34Brought to you by Riyot Season and the General Entertainment Authority, Gia.

07:36His professional record consists of 26 wins, just one defeat, one draw.
07:43With 22 of his 26 wins coming by way of knockout.
07:49Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Jarrell Big Baby Miller.
07:57And his opponent across the ring, fighting tonight out of the blue corner, he comes to the ring wearing black with white and weighed in officially at 274.4 pounds.
08:16Hailing from Imperial California, he has a professional record of 35 wins, two defeats, with 22 of his 35 wins coming by way of knockout.
08:32Ladies and gentlemen, here is the former WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO Unified Heavyweight Champion of the World, Andy, the Destroyer, Luis, Jr.
08:52Goal!
08:57I'll go, Hockey Chief, second.
08:59Okay, gentlemen.
09:01Coach, again, I'm going to come over on this side, Coach.
09:04Come on this side.
09:05I'm going to stress.
09:05We've got a high belt line over here.
09:07Anything in the white, even half a glove in the white is going to be good.
09:10Andy, your trunks are good.
09:11So we've got middle of the letters here and up, gentlemen.
09:14You've got my instructions in the back.
09:16Protect yourselves at all times.
09:17Listen to my commands.
09:18Touch them up.
09:19Back to your corner, gentlemen.
09:20Both of these men have spent the last five years dealing with issues both inside and out of the ring.
09:27Andy Ruiz reached the mountaintop, and he gave it all away.
09:32Jarrell Miller blew it before he could even get there.
09:34Both won other cracks at that heavyweight championship.
09:38To get there, they have to get through each other.
09:40You don't know what you got until it's gone.
09:42That's been the message from Andy Ruiz.
09:43He had the championship.
09:45Let it slip away.
09:46He vows that this will be his first step towards reclaiming the crown.
09:52Twelve rounds.
09:53Jarrell Miller and Andy Ruiz.
09:55You see Miller has two inches in height, and he has to reach four inches in reach.
10:07So you can bet that he's going to want to use that, not let Andy Ruiz come in and do that right off the bat.
10:13You want to keep him at bay.
10:14Keep popping that jab.
10:15Keep foot feinting.
10:16Use your athleticism if you're Miller.
10:18Miller has that right-hand cock, sort of like McCauley did in the last fight.
10:35Yeah, but Jarrell Miller's got to be careful because I think Andy Ruiz is one of the best counterpunchers at heavyweight.
10:42He gets into exchanges, and most of the time he wins those exchanges.
10:46He has extremely fast hands for a big man, and he can catch and counter really well, especially with that left hand.
10:53So if Miller throws a right hand that's going to ricochet off the left hand of Ruiz, you can bet that he's going to want to catch it and shoot that same left hook with the same left hand.
11:03That's the reason Miller's thinking twice about throwing that right hand right now.
11:06Miller being very patient.
11:08He keeps that left hand low down by his waist.
11:13As soon as Miller throws that right hand, you can bet Ruiz is going to counter with a big left hook.
11:17Catch and counter.
11:18Just by instinct.
11:19Yep.
11:21I like to fight with a rat, like a rat trap, left hook.
11:24Anytime you touch it, it's going to snap.
11:32Andy not wanting to be first, neither is Jarrell, and that means a slow first round.
11:38Yeah, but this is how Andy Ruiz came out against Luis Ortiz.
11:41It's a different situation.
11:42Luis Ortiz is a strong southpaw, and actually the first southpaw that Andy Ruiz had faced as a professional,
11:49so he was a little leery in that respect, but he is waiting for those opportunities to counter.
11:56Overhand right from Ruiz.
11:58Hold the hand off the head.
11:59Right, stop.
12:00No punch.
12:00Straight back.
12:00It's too early for Ruiz to start throwing that right hand.
12:03He still needs to invest in with that jab to the belly, just like that.
12:06See, keep touching that belly, and then you can drop the guard of Miller.
12:10Maybe you can try that overhand right again.
12:13You've got to feed your opponent into it.
12:17There you go.
12:18See that?
12:19Big exchange by both.
12:20Man, both of them barely missed big hooks.
12:22Miller's looking for a big shot himself.
12:25And they both sat down on the right hand.
12:27They're both sitting down in these punches.
12:29They want to hurt each other.
12:30We all know Andy Ruiz takes a huge shot.
12:36I want to see how Miller's going to respond once he gets hit.
12:38There's those lightning quick hands from Ruiz.
12:41And he caught him again.
12:43Listen to the bell, gentlemen.
12:44Time right there.
12:45Listen to the bell.
12:46Yeah, he caught him.
12:51Keep touching that body, you're walking them down right up.
13:18Doing good.
13:19He's looking for the right hand.
13:23Be careful.
13:24And this is the exchange right here.
13:37Big Baby Miller forgot to put his hands up in the clinch in the guard.
13:41Protect yourself at our times.
13:43Ruiz took advantage of that.
13:45But you got just a glimpse of the hand speed of Andy Ruiz.
13:48He's still got it at the age of 34.
13:50You know, Sergio, I don't know if it's intentional or if it just plays out this way, but Andy Ruiz is very good at landing those equilibrium shots.
13:59The ones on the side of the head clipped Anthony Joshua with one in their fight.
14:03Dropped Luis Ortiz with a similar type of shot.
14:06He just seems to find a hole in the right spot in the head.
14:09No, you're right.
14:10I just think he has good accuracy with that shot.
14:13I don't think it's intentional.
14:14I just think he's one of these punchers that he's very accurate.
14:19When he throws a shot, it just happens to land in the right spot.
14:22Ruiz said, I've got to let my hands go.
14:24I can't be tentative.
14:26But Miller's saying the same thing.
14:29See, Ruiz doesn't throw that many punches until the combinations start flowing.
14:35But I love the fact that he's jamming to the belly of Miller.
14:39That right there is going to serve dividends.
14:41He's going to pay dividends.
14:43And there it is again.
14:45One of Jarrell Miller's best attributes during his best years was that work break.
14:49He was a guy that would throw 60-plus punches per round.
14:52That's what made him the most successful.
14:54He's not the one-punch power knockout guy like Martin McCauley.
14:57He's got to win against Andy Ruiz with volume punching.
15:01Well, he said to us yesterday, he said Andy Ruiz cannot fight going backwards.
15:05He loves to eat jabs and can't handle body shots very well.
15:09Well, why not Ruiz is doing just fine on the back foot.
15:13Stabbing Miller to the chest and to the belly.
15:16Trying to set shots like that off top.
15:21I was expecting more from Miller.
15:24At least from a work rate.
15:29I think the hand speed of Andy Ruiz has a lot to do with the inactivity of Jarrell Miller.
15:36You know, this heavyweight division, especially Chris,
15:39since we're getting the premier matchups of top ten guys all the time now.
15:43Heavyweight's one big win away from being thrown right back in the mix.
15:47Oh, a right hand lands from Miller.
15:49Best punch of the fight.
15:50There's a big uppercut by Miller and then over the top.
15:53But that's the thing about Andy Ruiz, he knows how to take a big shot.
15:57Miller's just trying to line him up.
16:13Yeah, he's telegraphing that right hand.
16:16He should start just letting it go without power.
16:19He's looking for the perfect right hand, Miller is.
16:21It's too soon for that right now.
16:23Just be touching and pecking.
16:24You're losing bounds.
16:26Momentum for Ruiz right now.
16:28Miller's just getting out.
16:29That's what we're not going to do.
16:30But he's winning runs convincingly.
16:31That is a big Mexican.
16:32Ivory, watch me work, buddy.
16:33It was a good round, but we probably gave that shit at the end.
16:35You understand?
16:36You got to stop picking up.
16:37Forget about the head, bro.
16:38It was a good round, but we probably gave that shit at the end.
16:39You understand?
16:40You got to stop picking up.
16:41Forget about the head, bro.
16:42Touch the body, touch the body.
16:58Stop coming up the middle.
17:00Forget about the head.
17:01That head is going to come.
17:02I ripped this shit, it's not coming up the middle.
17:04We'll stop him.
17:05He's going to get too tight.
17:07He's getting time.
17:09Tying up the defense a little more, okay?
17:16Get that ice right now, get that ice out.
17:20Let's go, yeah.
17:20I'm going to have a set.
17:21Get the ice right now.
17:27And we see Andy Ruiz against the ropes.
17:31We don't want to see him against the ropes.
17:33And look, this was a good set.
17:34Look, a segue of punches right there by Big Baby Miller.
17:39Nice uppercut towards the end right there.
17:41Over the shot.
17:43Over the top right there.
17:44Ruiz can't be getting hit with big shots like that.
17:46And you can tell he was about to engage in exchange with Miller right now.
17:50Miller doesn't want to do that either.
17:51What do you think of the advice from Miller's corner to stop targeting the head and go to the body?
17:56I think I love that.
17:57And that's exactly what Ruiz has been doing well.
17:59He's been jabbing and pecking the body.
18:02I think Miller better start doing the exact same thing.
18:06Miller, they both have fast hands.
18:07But the speed is on Ruiz's side.
18:16Let's take a look at some CompuBox numbers as we enter round three here.
18:21In our second heavyweight fight of the night, Ruiz has landed 19 power punches compared to 10 for Big Baby.
18:26Yeah, that's a pretty low output for Darrell Miller.
18:33Yeah, Miller's not letting his hands go.
18:35He's walking back.
18:36And he's not punching, walking him back.
18:40So Ruiz is doing well off the back foot just like that.
18:43These are big, power shots from Andy Ruiz.
18:46For the most part, Miller's not giving him much back.
18:52You know, I questioned Andy Ruiz on Friday about his weight.
18:59He came in at 274 pounds, which if you exclude his first two professional fights would be the second highest weight of his professional career.
19:07Second only to that second fight against Anthony Joshua.
19:10And he insisted that it was a planned decision.
19:12He knows Darrell Miller is going to weigh in around 300 pounds.
19:15He wanted to be able to match some of that weight.
19:17There's a body shot from Ruiz, then comes over the top of the right hand.
19:21And Miller finally answering back.
19:24It was a good shot by Ruiz, but Miller came back.
19:26Miller needs to start getting respect here.
19:29And I like the shot that he's hitting for the body, Miller is.
19:33Both of them are digging down that upstairs.
19:37Big target for both of them down there in the building area.
19:42Ruiz getting his licks in wherever he can.
19:45And that's what you got to do.
19:46You just got to touch whatever your opponent gives you, that's what you touch.
19:49Just like that.
19:51And I love the fact that Ruiz is not standing in front of Miller.
19:53He's punching and moving.
19:55Usually it's Miller that has a better footwork.
20:06There's a digging right hand in the body for Miller.
20:08And even if you block a punch like that, Sergio, it still does some damage.
20:12Actually, that one actually was a little telegraphed and snappy, but yeah, he can.
20:16You don't want to get too many of those.
20:18Oh, good right hand on the inside for Ruiz.
20:19That's where he's been really excelling.
20:22Actually, that second body shot for Miller right now.
20:25That one right there, those are more effective than the ones that come around.
20:29You lose all your power when you open up your arm like that.
20:32That's the uppercut that Miller's corner had been calling for.
20:35They wanted to go to the body and then come up the gut with an uppercut.
20:39Listen for that bell, gentlemen.
20:42Let the arm go.
20:43Let the arm go.
20:45All right, let the arm go.
20:45We don't hold that.
20:46We don't hold that.
20:56Days after signing a contract extension with Matchroom, it was announced Eduardo Rocky Hernandez
21:01will face Tomas Matisse in the main event September 13th from Hermosillo, Mexico.
21:07Nice job there by Miller, but it was that shot right there.
21:23That right there gets the attention of any big man.
21:26I don't care how much size you got in that midsection.
21:30They're bound to get you, and there he goes.
21:31He returned the favor right back, his big baby Miller.
21:35Those are the shots that are going to take it out of you.
21:39Big uppercut in between by Miller, just too far in between.
21:43Andy Ruiz had his moments.
21:44Miller needs to start picking it up, in my opinion.
21:46Chris, which direction do you see this fight going here after three rounds?
21:50Oh, I think it's going in the direction Andy Ruiz wants it to go.
21:53I mean, his accuracy and output has been pretty clear to see at this bridge.
21:59Jarrell Miller just doesn't look like the guy we saw beating mid-level contenders at heavyweight
22:05during those first couple of years on the zone.
22:08So, I mean, Sergio, and Jarrell Miller wants to get back in this fight.
22:11He's got to increase his punch output, but when he's walking Andy Ruiz down,
22:14he's got to let his hands go.
22:16This is what he said.
22:17Andy Ruiz can't fight going backwards, but he's going to eat my jab.
22:22Jarrell, don't push off.
22:23Don't push off.
22:23And the early rounds is where Miller should be taking advantage of the inactivity of Ruiz.
22:32But shots like that, I mean, beautiful body shot there by Andy Ruiz.
22:36It comes right up back upstairs.
22:37The whip take a toll the limit of this fight goes.
22:40Andy, right, Sergio.
22:41These are the rounds that Andy Ruiz was most worried about coming off that two-year layoff.
22:46He didn't know how he was going to react in these first few rounds.
22:48He was pretty confident.
22:49He's settled into the fight as it progressed, but so far, so good for Andy Ruiz.
22:53Yeah, and that's the reason I'm saying that Miller is actually playing in the game plan
22:57of Ruiz letting him get into the fight and shake off that rest.
23:03See, right here, Miller should be jabbing his way in.
23:05He's just walking.
23:06Good body shot, but he should be jabbing his way in.
23:11Right cross on the inside.
23:13Jarrell Miller.
23:14There's the double jab.
23:16He's being the aggressor, Sergio, but not the effective aggression.
23:23He's not a good right hand, Miller, right there.
23:27He's doing well in the last 20 seconds.
23:30Miller, he's got you some good shots.
23:32He's trying to pick it up.
23:34Jarrell, get him up.
23:35Ruiz snuck in some of those quick hands there.
23:38There you go.
23:39There you go.
23:40But Jarrell Miller trying to impose his superior size on Ruiz.
23:46I think he is imposing it right now in this last minute.
23:49He needs to keep doing it, but he needs to do it behind a jab.
23:51You know, pop that shotgun jabber on Ruiz's face.
23:54There you can start your combinations.
23:57Nice flurry there from Ruiz.
23:59You know, every time a fighter shakes their head and says, I didn't feel that, it means that they fell.
24:07They fell to it, but do something back.
24:09I mean, okay, if they didn't bother you, fine.
24:11How about you get yours back?
24:13Let your hands go if you're going.
24:15What I'm seeing here, correct me if I'm wrong, Sergio, is a fight that Miller should be winning.
24:21He's doing all the right things position-wise in the ring, but he's just not landing enough punches.
24:27Because he's not throwing the jab.
24:28So without the jab, you're not going to have confidence to let the right hand go.
24:31Without the right hand, you can't let your combinations flow.
24:34So there's no fluidity to his offense.
24:37The only thing he's doing right is walking back on Ruiz, but that's not enough.
24:41He's getting the ball down in the paint, Chris, but he's not making the hoops.
24:45Right there, guys.
24:46Hold on.
24:46And let's take it with Emily, who's with NFL star Deshaun Jackson.
24:53Deshaun Jackson in the house.
24:54Game that recognizes more game.
24:56Who you got tonight?
24:58I only got the one and only, man.
24:59Bud Crawford, man.
25:00Come on, bud.
25:01I'm ready to see a knockout early on, too.
25:03Probably like round four.
25:04Round four, knockout.
25:05I'm predicting it.
25:06Round four, man.
25:07Bud the dude, man.
25:08I'm excited to be here, man.
25:09I've just been rooting for him for a long time.
25:11His career, man.
25:12He's doing some great things.
25:13So I just want to see a good fight, but I got him knocking out early.
25:16Looks like you got a nice left hook.
25:17Is this something next for you in your career?
25:19I'm messing around a little bit, but I don't know.
25:20I ain't going to step into that rule.
25:22Well, you're good at what you do.
25:24Appreciate it.
25:24Enjoy the fight.
25:31And this little flurry towards the end, I don't know if it was enough to switch the judges,
25:38but both of them at their moments, Andy Ruiz was actually getting really good shots.
25:42Number five.
25:42Miller needs to start picking it up.
25:44Number five.
25:45Go.
25:46Well, he admitted he ran out of gas in his last fight against Daniel Dubois.
25:49Maybe he's trying to save some of that energy for the later rounds.
25:53No, he wasn't in shape last time he fought against Dubois.
25:56This time he's in shape.
25:58He's ready to go.
25:58This is it.
26:01Andy, don't ease it for him.
26:04I'll be honest with you, Todd.
26:05After his last performance, I didn't think he was going to get an opportunity for another big fight.
26:08And here he is.
26:09Now, an even bigger fight.
26:10He must capitalize.
26:11Nice lift on the inside by Miller.
26:15Cracked the jaw of Ruiz there.
26:17Let's go, Andy.
26:20The body shot by Ruiz.
26:22I am surprised.
26:24Both these guys loading up on shots.
26:26Off the head.
26:26For what it's worth, Miller does seem fresh.
26:30Well, he's fresh because he's not throwing and letting his hands go.
26:33And he's not moving his feet like he normally does.
26:35Notice the size difference of Miller's upper body to lower body.
26:39That's what I used to be impressed with.
26:41He has big thighs, but he has skinny calves.
26:44That allows him to actually be good on his feet, be light on his feet.
26:48And that was giving him an advantage as a heavyweight.
26:50He's not doing that right now.
26:52Now, I was in the corner talking to Arleano Sosa, the trainer for Jarrell Miller.
26:57They do think the pressure of Miller is starting to wear A to Ruiz down.
27:00But they're like us guys.
27:01They're saying he's got to let his hands go.
27:03Got to throw some punches.
27:04Throw them to the outside.
27:05And we get on the inside.
27:06Let that uppercut go.
27:07That's like an elbow.
27:08Let's watch the hands.
27:14But that 300 pounds of humanity being rested on you all the time, Sergio,
27:20will certainly take its toll on that left hand move Ruiz back.
27:23Oh, those body shots move Ruiz back.
27:26That's digging down now.
27:27That's what I'm talking about if you're a big baby Miller.
27:29And this is a good spell for Miller as Ruiz looking a little slow.
27:34It was the body shots.
27:34He got the attention left and right.
27:36He landed four in a row.
27:37That opened up up top.
27:41This is momentum for Miller.
27:43He needs to keep going downstairs.
27:45That's going to open up uppercuts and hooks.
27:48The straight shots are in the favor of Ruiz right now.
27:51But if you're breaking the distance that easy, go around the guard with the hooks if you're Miller.
27:54Best round of the fight for Jarrell Miller.
28:01Crowd trying to get behind Andy Ruiz.
28:06Miller says no.
28:08And maybe Ruiz's punches are losing steam here in the fifth.
28:12It looks like they are losing steam.
28:13And it looks like Miller's not respecting the speed nor the power of Ruiz now.
28:19Stop, stop, stop.
28:20And body shots.
28:20Ruiz is not liking those body shots.
28:22Andy, Andy, look at me.
28:23You pull this head down.
28:24That's your fault.
28:25Stay right here.
28:26Just try to keep him up.
28:28Stop pulling the head down.
28:28You pause your own foul.
28:29Back up.
28:30Go.
28:31Excellent hard warning by Thomas Taylor because that wasn't a low blow, even though Ruiz tried to sell it.
28:39Let the arm go.
28:40Let it go.
28:41So are we seeing a pendulum swing in the momentum of this fight?
28:46Ruiz lands those quick hands.
28:49And Miller sitting down on some punches here at the end of the round.
28:54And Ruiz may have been rocked.
29:00And coming up, our co-main event of the evening, Mexico vs. Mexico Pitbull Cruz vs. Jose Valenzuela.
29:14I love this match.
29:16Valenzuela is motivated.
29:17He's a tall southpaw.
29:18He has Robin Garcia in his corner.
29:20He had a great camp.
29:21But that man right there, Pitbull is a fitting name.
29:23Always stocking, looking for the big shots.
29:26He's maybe shorter and smaller and stockier, but he fights big men, tall men.
29:30Just perfectly.
29:31Yeah, some parallels in this fight.
29:33Pitbull Cruz back in March made the jump up to 140 and won a world title in his first professional fight.
29:39Jose Valenzuela trying to do the exact same thing.
29:41Making the jump up to 140 pounds after beating Chris Colbert the last time out to win this belt in his first fight at Junior Welterweight.
29:49And Isak Cruz has become an attraction with the fans, especially Mexican fans.
29:55You're going to hear the roar of that man gets once he comes out.
29:58People love his performance coming up short with Tank Davis and they've been supporting his career.
30:02Right now, all eyes on Andy Ruiz, who seems to be fading fast as we enter round six.
30:13You wonder, Sergio, was there a method?
30:16Is there a method to the madness of Trev Miller?
30:18He took some big shots in those first few rounds.
30:21I thought he lost him cleanly.
30:23Now here he is coming off a win in a round and starts to build on that in the sixth round.
30:26I don't think that's a method, man.
30:28That's a style now.
30:29You know, he wears people down with his intimidation and size.
30:34Yeah, he's right there in the face of Ruiz, not letting him breathe.
30:37Good right hand on the inside.
30:40And Miller, like Boccoli, doesn't have to hit you that hard, Sergio.
30:44His fists were so massive.
30:47Well, I'm quick.
30:48Stop, stop, stop, stop.
30:48No punch.
30:49Jarrell Milliken fought some big fan.
30:50But Martin Boccoli is a KO artist.
30:52That's what he said.
30:54I was looking for the words to say exactly that.
30:56You can't compare the two.
31:00There's a different type of pop.
31:01You know, Miller does have power, but it's not Boccoli power.
31:0522 knockouts and Jarrell Milliken's 26 wins.
31:10Martin, left guy, blue corner.
31:15See those looping shots?
31:17That's going to take it out of Miller.
31:18He shouldn't be throwing looping shots, I thought.
31:20You can keep walking the man down, but keep the punches straight
31:23and keep digging to the body like he did there.
31:25And if you see your man getting winded, keep digging downstairs.
31:33Luis isn't looking winded.
31:34He's breathing with his mouth open now.
31:36Yeah, and a long way to go.
31:37We're not even at the halfway point.
31:38Yeah.
31:39The body language are backing up.
31:41The mouth open.
31:42Luis is not made for the 12 rounds.
31:45Yeah, he's...
31:47Miller should just keep digging away.
31:53Forget the head.
31:55Dig away at the body.
31:56Yeah, Miller looks fresh.
31:57Ruiz looks like damaged goods.
32:00Yes, he does.
32:00And that's the thing with inactivity, man.
32:03I don't care.
32:03Like I said, I don't care how long you've been in the gym.
32:05Once you get up there and the driver starts rushing, it doesn't matter.
32:11Inactivity kills careers.
32:18But Ruiz has banked some rounds here, so it's not like the cause is lost.
32:22He still has plenty of time to get back.
32:25But this has not been his round.
32:47Listen for the bell, gentlemen.
32:50Loving body shots from Darrell Miller.
32:53And then upstairs in an uppercut.
32:55That was right after the bell, or maybe even a little after.
32:58You know, one thing Darrell Miller is doing here, last few rounds.
33:01And here's that 10-second clap.
33:02He's shoe shining.
33:03Maybe for the judges to see his production at the very end.
33:07Jesse, put a vaseline on this side, please.
33:11Put the air, put the air.
33:12What side is it?
33:13Put the air, we go.
33:14Let's go.
33:15Let's go.
33:18The ears, Jesse.
33:19From this side.
33:20It's a second drop, Andy.
33:25You got to breathe.
33:26Take a deep breath.
33:31Get your hands up.
33:33Jesse, a la estina.
33:34Anda, eh.
33:35Anda.
33:38Big baby Miller stalking like he's been doing the entire time, but now he's letting his hands go.
33:42Short right hand right there.
33:44Ruiz is not jabbing to the body anymore, so making it easier for Miller to break that distance.
33:50And boom.
33:51Big right uppercut right there.
33:52Picked up the chin of Ruiz and a solid back-to-back rounds for big baby Miller.
33:59Let's see how Chris Mannix has this scored through six full rounds.
34:03Yeah, I've got it four rounds to two in favor of Andy Ruiz.
34:06I thought the first four rounds were pretty easy to score.
34:08Ruiz was landing with greater volume, accuracy.
34:11We talked all throughout that Miller was just stalking Ruiz, but not throwing punches.
34:16But over the last two rounds, Jarrell Miller has really turned the tide.
34:19He's letting his hands go, especially to the body, which is having a big impact on Andy Ruiz.
34:26And you can see that Miller is not respecting anything coming back for Ruiz now.
34:30And I love what he's doing now.
34:31He's just throwing short shots.
34:33He's not loading up, Miller.
34:34He's just countering with nice, nice momentum, movement with that right hand.
34:41You can see a bit of a swelling underneath and around that left eye of Andy Ruiz.
34:49That's because of those right hands I was talking about.
34:51He's not loading up on him no more, Miller.
34:53He's just throwing him to touch him.
34:55But when you have 300 pounds behind you, touching is enough.
35:07Here's that little jab on the inside from Miller.
35:10Anything that scores, another one.
35:13And there's a clubbing right hand stabbing downward from Jarrell Miller,
35:18who, according to Chris Mannix, has won the last two rounds after a slow start.
35:22I like that Miller is not letting Ruiz clinch.
35:28You know, clinching saves you some time.
35:29You can get some breath.
35:31You know, you can walk your opponent back.
35:33Anytime Ruiz starts to clinch, big baby Miller, you know, doesn't let him.
35:36He pushes him or moves his arms.
35:38So what can Ruiz do here, Sergio, other than...
35:46Ruiz better start moving his head.
35:47Watch out.
35:48Yeah, he better move that head right now.
35:49We're going to have a knockout.
35:50Yeah, he better start moving that upper body.
35:52Right now he's getting way too relaxed because he's tired.
35:55So he needs to keep the hands up or the upper body movement right now
35:59because big baby Miller, he's just getting started.
36:06Ruiz told us that Miller suits my style.
36:10I can counter and shoot back, use his aggression against him.
36:14And he was doing that early on, but the punches just aren't coming back anymore.
36:19And that's fatigue setting in on Ruiz.
36:22The fact that he hasn't fought in almost two years.
36:27It takes its own in the second half of the fight.
36:30And we're seeing it now.
36:32You can see Ruiz is tired.
36:37Yeah, anytime Miller rears back and fires, he misses.
36:41But if those little short shots, like you were saying, Sergio,
36:43those are the ones that are scored.
36:45And the snap on the punches of Andrew Ruiz
36:49are not the same as they were early in the fight.
36:53And there's Jose Valenzuela.
37:11He gets pit bull cruising.
37:13Sergio, you feel Valenzuela's not been getting the respect
37:16he deserves heading into this fight.
37:18No, he is not.
37:20And he's a tall southpaw.
37:21He's had a great camp.
37:22He has Robert Garcia in his corner.
37:24This is one of these fights to sleep in, man.
37:26Not only do I think he's going to give Isak Cruz a tough fight,
37:29but one of these fights where a possible upset could happen here
37:34because Isak Cruz is there to be hit,
37:35but he's got to get his respect.
37:38How about Isak Cruz doing this workout prior to the fight?
37:41Isn't that the stuff you do with, like, title boxing?
37:45I mean, he's in good shape.
37:48Hey, it's the fundamentals, Chris.
37:50There you go.
37:50I get it.
37:50I get it.
37:51I've done that, but I'm a terrible fighter.
37:52That we can all agree on as we head to round eight.
38:00Can Ruiz find a second win for a second chapter of his career?
38:06The former unified heavyweight champion
38:09since that glorious night at Madison Square Garden
38:12has looked less than stellar.
38:14It's going to be an important round for Andy Ruiz
38:30to switch the momentum.
38:31The last three rounds have been really good for Miller,
38:34even though Miller started off slow.
38:38Now he's not, you know, with three rounds in the bank.
38:41He's got to work in the bank.
38:44Top of your box numbers say that Jarrell Miller
38:47has landed 20 more power punches
38:49and thrown 52 more, 39% each.
38:55Yeah, a lot of that work being done
38:57over the last three rounds.
39:01One thing Sergio and Andy Ruiz
39:03is doing the first four rounds,
39:05you know, it was quick three-four punch combinations
39:08that came off the shoulders, you know, with bursts.
39:11Now he's kind of loading up on these shots
39:12that Jarrell Miller has seen coming
39:14and is able to cover up.
39:15Not only that, but that takes more out of you
39:17when you're tired, when you're loading up and not landing.
39:21So everything's really heavy and kind of lethargic
39:24on Andy Ruiz, and you can see Miller
39:26just walking him up, looking for that big right hand.
39:30I'd love to see Miller go back down to the body right now,
39:33even if it's just jabs, or right hand straight to the gut.
39:39When you have a tired and fatigued man in front of you,
39:42and he's giving you that body, he should take it.
39:44Keep poking him down there, keep pecking.
39:46Power punches, as you just saw,
39:49have swung greatly in the favor of Jarrell Miller.
39:52That seventh round alone, it was 10-2
39:54in favor of landing power punches.
39:56At the same time, I almost feel like Miller
40:05should be doing more.
40:08He's got a fighter in front of him
40:09who's obviously fatigued, who's lost most of his power.
40:14And Miller has him on his back foot constantly.
40:22See, both these guys are reluctant to throw that right hand.
40:25They know that they're looking for a counter.
40:30So the jab is all they're doing,
40:32and they're collecting the right hand.
40:33Like this round, Ruiz has thrown so many more punches.
40:36Miller's obviously in control, but he could lose the round.
40:39Right.
40:41And all the jabs.
40:46There's the shoe shine.
40:47Listen for the bell.
40:51But did Miller wait too late?
40:53Right there.
40:55It takes to be put a hot 97 in the field of Peter Ogunmark,
40:58what's going on?
41:02Let's go to Detroit!
41:04Let's go to Detroit!
41:12We've got number nine, number nine, how we doing?
41:14Sit down for a little while.
41:15Put a little bass in the back.
41:16Put a little bass in the back.
41:17Sit down, let me see the back swing in my face.
41:26We're going to the men's ninth round.
41:30Hold up strong.
41:40That was a jab.
41:42That was actually a quiet round right there,
41:44but Ruiz did enough with shots like that.
41:47Little flurry towards the end,
41:48trying to sway the round in his favor.
41:50I don't think that was enough,
41:51but Ruiz really needs to pick it up
41:53and start strong towards the end.
41:54And it's almost become too predictable, hasn't it, Chris?
41:57Where Miller just kind of methodically
42:00follows Ruiz around the end,
42:02around the ring in the last 10 seconds,
42:03throws body shots.
42:04I think Terrell Miller's got now a three-round window
42:09to win some rounds against Daniel Ruiz.
42:11He dug a pretty big hole early on.
42:13He's dug himself out of it.
42:14We've got to believe in the 12th round,
42:16Daniel Ruiz is going to get that burst of adrenaline
42:18and look more like the Andy Ruiz
42:20we saw in the first couple of rounds.
42:21So these next few rounds are just as important
42:24for Terrell Miller as they are Andy Ruiz.
42:28The way this round's opening up,
42:29it feels like this is going to be the round
42:31that's going to tell us who has more left,
42:34because they're throwing with some heavy shots right now,
42:36and it looks like Miller's finally letting his hands go.
42:46There's a right hand on the temple.
42:48As Chris Mannix pointed out earlier,
42:49that's kind of been his go-to punch.
42:53That body shot Ruiz did not like.
42:55Get him up Andy, get him up.
43:08There's some quick hands,
43:09a little power being shown by Ruiz.
43:11At least coming to life a little bit.
43:13No, he's coming to life when Miller's blocking those shots.
43:20It can be discouraging whenever you're throwing shots
43:22that hard, that fast, being blocked
43:24and your opponent keeps walking towards you.
43:26Off the head, off the head.
43:50You know, for whatever reason,
43:51Derrell Miller's kind of gone back to the guy
43:52who saw the first few rounds,
43:53where he is continuing to press forward,
43:55but not throwing punches as he is.
44:09You look at this fight,
44:10it's clear that Miller seems to be much fresher,
44:12but he's not dominating these rounds.
44:14In fact, he might even be losing some of them,
44:17despite seemingly being on cruise control.
44:20There's an uppercut.
44:22Oh, and a nice left cross.
44:24And this is what you want to see if you're a Derrell Miller fan.
44:31Just letting your hands go.
44:33See, he's not loading up with power.
44:35He's throwing it with speed.
44:36He's not letting any release.
44:41Clinch or smothering, stepping back.
44:45We need to see more of this from Miller.
44:46Here comes the body work.
44:47This is for Bell, gentlemen.
44:49So good close to the round for Miller,
44:51but it was a good start for the Leafs.
44:55You're looking live at BMO Stadium.
45:01Every ticket has been sold tonight.
45:04And only two fights remaining after this.
45:08He's just trying to kill me,
45:09and they're good.
45:10I'm not gonna have any success.
45:11They're all gonna have any trouble.
45:12And on the other side,
45:13they're all gonna have anything else.
45:16They're all gonna have to agree with
45:17the vurder.
45:18They're all gonna have any trouble.
45:19The rear-up.
45:20They're all gonna have any trouble.
45:21I don't have any trouble.
45:22Not the pain.
45:23Are you going to have any trouble?
45:24Oh, my Lord, I'm coming to the lutte.
45:26I want three or fours. You got to pick that shit up, baby.
45:28You don't have to stay close, man,
45:30because you don't even give it to him.
45:31And then you got to pick it up Brown.
45:33That's a Seth Brown, man.
45:34I want the mean motherfucker to come out.
45:40See those shots right there?
45:42He's not loading up. Miller is not loading up on those shots.
45:44He's just touching him, but that's doing enough
45:46to keep Andrew. He's thinking too tense.
45:49Those are short shots.
45:51You see more of that.
45:52That's exactly where the talent is.
45:53Jerome Miller in the corner.
45:55Chief Thorne. Here's an inner close fighter.
45:57So nine minutes to go.
45:59It's still anyone's fight, but Miller
46:02has put himself in the opportunity,
46:04really grabbed this fight by the scruff of its neck
46:07and take control, but he just hasn't done it.
46:12And it's there for him, Tom.
46:14You know, if he can keep walking Ruiz back,
46:16which he's been doing the entire fight,
46:18but doing it behind the jab like you have a game plan to do.
46:21Not the fact that Ruiz is walking himself back,
46:23but you're pushing him back with the jab,
46:25even if it's to the chest or to the shoulders.
46:28Oh, there's good work.
46:30That's what you want to see from Miller.
46:32One, two, three downstairs and ends it with a left upstairs.
46:35A big body shot, a big baby to the body.
46:37Ruiz didn't like that shot.
46:39Miller says, come on to Andy Ruiz.
46:41It seems like Ruiz needs to be pushed into a fight and wake up.
46:50Chris Mannix's scorecard as close as you'd like.
46:5386-85 in favor of Andy Ruiz.
46:56I thought Ruiz did just enough in that eighth round.
46:59Jarrell seemed to kind of take off.
47:01Jarrell squeezed out the ninth right now.
47:04Back and forth action.
47:05Very competitive fight.
47:0686-85 right now in favor of Andy Ruiz.
47:15Credit to Ruiz who looked gassed as early as round five,
47:19but he's hung in there.
47:20Still letting his hands go.
47:22Work out that, guys.
47:26You know, when fighters are this tired,
47:28it's a skill to learn how to fight tired.
47:31You know, you don't really load up on shots.
47:34Watch those heads, gentlemen.
47:35The little tiny shots where you got to actually use your hips.
47:38Little shots like that.
47:40If you can do that and keep getting your opponent hurt
47:43and keep them tired, then the big shots will land after.
47:47Good jabs from Miller.
47:49A minute to go here in the tenth.
47:57See, loading up on shots like that for Ruiz,
47:59that is not as effective as if you do two shots that actually
48:04you're punching with your shoulders and your hips
48:06with better technique instead of speed
48:08and trying to put too much power to one.
48:14Well, no one's ever questioned the heart of Andy Ruiz,
48:16and he's showing you a lot of it in this fight.
48:1830 seconds to go here in the tenth.
48:24Pretty good round for Miller.
48:28The thing about Jarrell Miller is that he could always take a punch.
48:43Yeah, because look, that was solid.
48:45One, two, three on the back foot for Ruiz.
48:48Miller ain't those up.
48:49Listen for the bell.
48:50Much more activity from Jarrell Miller.
48:53If you were born in California, put this one on Instagram.
48:57And our main event just around the corner, and there he is, the WBA champion of the world, Israel Madrimov.
49:07Sergio, you were a champ in the junior middleweight division.
49:10How much of an advantage does he have being this his natural weight?
49:15Well, it's a big advantage because he's a natural 154 pounder, but here's the advantage that he has.
49:21He's been overlooked by everyone but Crawford.
49:23He's one of these guys that's really good.
49:25He has an amateur pedigree.
49:26He has the power.
49:27He's a strong fighter.
49:28He has good technique, but it's the footwork.
49:30It's the footwork in these old Uzbek fighters that are really special.
49:34If he comes down moving and punching, he's going to be a trouble to that man right there.
49:38Yeah, that man right there, Terrence Crawford, one of the great pound-for-pound fighters of this generation,
49:44trying to become a four-division world champion.
49:46And I tell you what, guys, watching him this week, physically, he looks like a junior middleweight.
49:51So I think size is not going to be an issue for Terrence Crawford in this fight.
49:55Well, size has been an issue in this fight as Jarrell Miller's 300-plus pound frame has exhausted Andy Ruiz
50:03as we enter the championship rounds.
50:05Still feels like this fight is up for grabs, though.
50:11Ruiz had a hot start, won at least the first three, maybe first four rounds before Miller found his form.
50:24What would your advice be to Ruiz if you were his trainer, Sergio?
50:27Not to load up on shots anymore.
50:29I mean, this is a big man walking you down.
50:31You got to start using your jab, start poking him on the chest,
50:34and don't load up anymore.
50:35Concentrate on speed, not power if you have any Ruiz.
50:38See right there, he loaded up on that big shot.
50:41Just one shot instead.
50:42Watch it for three.
50:43Three at 50%.
50:45At least he's throwing, Sergio.
50:55No, at least he's throwing, but it's not the effective.
50:58It's not having the effect on Miller like it should if he's throwing two or three.
51:02Because you can praise yourself for that one big shot.
51:06You see it coming.
51:07But the other ones, it might catch you off guard.
51:12See those shots right there.
51:13You can see those coming.
51:15Miller was stopped in the final round of his last fight, round 10, against Daniel Dubois.
51:21This one's scheduled for 12.
51:24And it looks like he still has plenty of gas in the tank, does Miller.
51:38It's not easy to go 12 rounds and be active when you weigh 305 pounds, is it?
51:43I wouldn't know, but yes.
51:44It doesn't look that way.
51:47You know, for Jerome Miller, this is well conditioned.
51:50He hasn't fought at a weight this low since 2018.
51:53Brandon Ruiz is the second highest weight of his pro career,
51:57if you exclude the first two fights he had.
51:59So, Jerome Miller in great condition by Jerome Middlestad.
52:07The big fight awaits him if he can get past Ruiz.
52:13Good right hand for Ruiz, but Miller's there.
52:20It's just not affecting Miller, is it?
52:22No matter what Ruiz hits him with.
52:24No, it's not.
52:25And it hasn't affected Miller.
52:27Miller came to fight.
52:29He came to win.
52:30Good shot.
52:31That was a good right hand.
52:32That was the best punch for a while from Ruiz.
52:34That was.
52:35Miller keeps coming forward.
52:40See right here's where Miller could be jabbing.
52:42When he's beating him down with a jab.
52:45When Miller caught a tie fighter in front of you.
52:47That jab right there would do more damage.
52:49Then loaded up on a big right hand.
52:51Tie right there.
52:52The excitement continues to build, not only for our main event,
53:03but Eminem performing live in just a few minutes.
53:12Great venue by the way.
53:13Here at BMO Stadium, the home of LAFC from Major League Soccer.
53:18Riyadh sees it hitting the United States for the first time with a bang.
53:27From the left behind.
53:28That's it.
53:29That's it.
53:30That's it.
53:31That's it.
53:32That's it.
53:33That's it.
53:34That's it.
53:35That's it.
53:36That's it.
53:37Slap and.
53:38Slap and right hands there by Miller.
53:39Two.
53:40Two.
53:41Two.
53:42One.
53:43One.
53:44Two.
53:45Two.
53:46Two.
53:47Two.
53:48Two.
53:49Two.
53:50Two.
53:51Two.
53:52One.
53:53Two.
53:54Two.
53:55Two.
53:56One.
53:57Two.
53:58Two.
53:59Two.
54:01to go. The fight could hang in the balance. Who knows? Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
54:06Strip it. Let's go.
54:11Ruiz has to find a way to dig deep and win the 12th.
54:23And Miller, who still looks relatively fresh, does not want to go.
54:26Stop, stop, stop. Go, go. Well, the referee Thomas Trivers saying stop, stop, stop. No, go, go, go.
54:32And Ruiz lands a right hand. Let it go, Andy. Let it go. All right, stop. No punch.
54:36Well, I was going to say, Miller doesn't want to go back to the locker room after this,
54:39thinking, I had more to give. Now is the time to let it all hang out.
54:47You know that's what Ruiz is going to do. That's what Ruiz is doing.
54:56Ruiz. Off the head, off the head.
55:03Let it go, guys. Look out of it.
55:08Reminds me a little bit of that third fight between Evander Holyfield and Riddick Poe.
55:12Holyfield just looked completely gassed and found that second win to drop Poe.
55:18This is what I was talking about earlier. You always knew in the 12th round Andy Ruiz would find
55:22that burst of adrenaline down the new one. That's why it was so important for Jarrell Miller
55:26to rack up some of these rounds in the second half of the fight.
55:34Use it, Andy. Pull it back.
55:41Digging body shots from Miller. Ruiz is going to be in pain for a few weeks after this.
55:4660 seconds to go.
55:56Plenty of very lucrative offers for the winner of this fight.
56:01But it's doom and gloom for the loser.
56:03Right now it looks like the body language is more Miller. The second win is more on big baby
56:16Miller. He's still walking back Ruiz, but this time he's punching coming forward. No job, but punching.
56:26Miller said he ran out of gas in his last fight. He looks like he's got something left in the tank here.
56:31Yes, he does. He's a good, good tall throw.
56:35Up there.
56:45Ten seconds left. Deep breath for the Destroyer.
56:49As it's Miller who's pounding to the body. Good finish for Miller. And now he'll do it.
56:56Did the big baby do enough?
57:16Andy Ruiz doesn't seem too happy for what that's worth.
57:20No, he does not. And he shouldn't be because, uh, you know, he run some early runs.
57:24He ran some early runs. He didn't capitalize in the second half of the fight.
57:28And it's not just fatigue. It's not just that he wasn't in condition. You've got to give credit to Miller.
57:33Miller actually fought really well in the second half of the fight.
57:35And he throws out stronger.
57:37Miller used his size, was very aggressive. And according to those of you watching on the DAZONE app in the fan zone,
57:5259% think that Miller's going to get the decision.
57:56But again, Ruiz banks so many early rounds. If he just won two or three for those later rounds, he'll get the decision.
58:08It doesn't get more exciting that Virgil Ortiz Jr., every one of his fights he has won by knockout.
58:24But he takes on Ukraine's Sergei Boechuk next week live. And it could be his very toughest test.
58:32Let's see how he does in Las Vegas next Saturday.
58:38Here we see the three judges, Robert Hoyle, David Sutherland, solid judges.
58:47I've got to be honest, Dr. Luverett scares the crowd out of me. He does.
58:51He has had some absolutely outlandish scorecards in recent years.
58:56And I have a bad feeling this could be one of them.
58:58It was close.
59:06Who's going to get the nine?
59:08Thomas Treiber has the numbers.
59:10Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of boxing, we go to the judges' scorecards.
59:22Judge Robert Hoyle scores it 116-112 in favor of Jarrell Miller.
59:31And both judges, Lou Barrett and David Sutherland, are in agreement.
59:39They both scored the same.
59:4114-114 a draw.
59:45This foul is a majority draw.
59:52What a heck.
59:53Seems about right, majority drop, but I think Miller...
