03:58gather this new a6 avant upholds that the new panoramic digital cockpit is a big feature looks very sleek
04:05that main infotainment screen seems well integrated too and there's an optional passenger display as
04:09well ah like in some porsche's a mercs for entertainment or nav assistance potentially yeah
04:17gives the front passenger more to do or see and the ambient lighting sounds cool strips across the dash
04:22doors customizable colors obviously but the pulsing thing is neat pulsing in sync with the indicators
04:28oh that is clever subtle safety cue and that panoramic sunroof nine switchable elements yeah very high
04:35tech though as one source pointed out even cars like the new Renault Scenic have similar zoned glass
04:40roofs now true shows how that tech is filtering down still cool though it absolutely is highlights how
04:46premium features spread okay so let's shift focus under the bonnet engines critical stuff right so for the uk
04:55initially what are we looking at two main options to start a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol
05:01and a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel okay familiar territory both with the s-tronic autobox
05:07that dual clutch correct quick shifting usually pretty smooth the interesting bit is the drivetrain
05:13petrol is front wheel drive only at launch only front wheel drive hmm and the diesel the diesel gets quattro
05:19all-wheel drive and it also gets a 48 volt mild hybrid system ah the matv so a little electric boost
05:27energy recovery helps efficiency exactly think of it as a small electrical assistant what's interesting
05:33though despite the diesel having that hybrid help both engines actually produce the same peak power 204
05:39horsepower oh really exactly the same so where's the difference torque that's the key the petrol manages a
05:45decent 340 newton meters okay but the diesel likely helped by that mild hybrid boost down low puts out
05:52a more substantial 400 newton meters ah okay that makes sense that extra torque will make the diesel feel
05:58punchier in everyday driving right overtaking pulling away especially pulling away from junctions or
06:04accelerating mid-range and you see that reflected in the performance figures don't you you do the diesel is
06:09noticeably quicker to 60 ml rar flat seven seconds seven seconds flat and the petrol 8.3 seconds so
06:17quite a difference off the line even with the same horsepower the driving experience will feel distinct
06:21definitely now other markets get more right there's a v6 yes outside the uk there's a 3.0 liter
06:27turbocharged v6 same one is in the s5 also with the mild hybrid tech that one makes uh 367 horsepower and
06:35550 newton meters okay that's more like it proper grunt and the good news for uk buyers wanting more
06:41performance is that an s6 version is expected oh okay using a tuned up version of that v6 most likely
06:48yes probably joining the lineup sometime next year so more potent options are definitely on the way good
06:53to know right now one many listeners will be waiting for the rs6 the legend any news always huge
07:01anticipation isn't it absolutely well we know an all-electric rs6 e-tron is definitely happening

07:55you've got the 4.0 liter twin turtle v8 used in the audi s8 the lamborghini urus powerful stuff
08:01already what kind of power do those make in those anywhere from around 570 up to 660 horsepower
08:07roughly and importantly that engine is already paired with plug-in hybrid systems look at the porsche
08:12cayenne turbo e-hybrid right how much does that make that system kicks out a staggering 739 horsepower
08:19and 950 newton meters of torque good grief okay so the potential is enormous just using that setup it
08:24really is but there's potentially another even more potent option within the group oh the bentley
08:29continental gt also uses a 4.0 liter twin turbo v8 plug-in hybrid and that produces a monstrous 782
08:39horsepower and a full 1000 newton meters of torque one thousand newton meters so whichever road out he
08:46takes it seems highly likely the next rs6 will significantly jump up in power and torque compared
08:52to the outgoing model significantly as an understatement imagine the acceleration it sets the
08:57stage for some truly breathtaking performance and apparently audi's benchmarking against the new m5
09:03ooh the rivalry continues that's going to be an epic showdown rs6 versus m5 touring potentially both
09:10hybrids something enthusiasts will be watching very closely for sure okay okay calming down from the rs6
09:15dream for a second back to the standard a6 avant it's still an estate car practicality matters boot
09:21space yes and this is where the sources reveal well a bit of a surprise oh good or bad surprise
09:27not so good for practicality peers the new a6 avant actually offers less boot capacity than the old
09:32one less really how much less the petrol version has 503 liters the previous model had 565. wow that's
09:39quite a drop over 60 liters it is and interestingly that 503 liters is only one liter more than the
09:47all-electric a6 e-tron is expected to have so the combustion car barely beats the ev on boot space
09:53that is surprising what about the diesel with the hybrid battery even less just 466 liters for the
09:59diesel mhev yeah presumably the battery packaging eats into the space okay 466 that puts it well how
10:05does it compare to the rivals the 5 series touring the e-class estate not favorably unfortunately the bmw
10:125 series touring offers 570 liters right so significantly more than either a6 avant and
10:18the mercedes e-class estate is the real cargo king here with a massive 615 liters 615 okay so the audi is
10:25quite a way behind both its main german rivals on pure boot volume it seems that way yes in terms of
10:30outright luggage hauling it appears to have taken a step back that could be a deal breaker for some estate
10:35buyers it definitely could raises questions about priorities maybe styling and tech over sheer volume
10:41perhaps they do include a standard electric boot lid and the kicked open feature is supposedly
10:45improved huh the infamous kick to open let's hope it's less temperamental this time we've all done
10:52that weird dance behind a car haven't we oh yes the one-legged boot opening ballet hopefully this
10:58iteration is more reliable let's hope okay moving on to tech that hopefully does work reliably because
11:04this car is absolutely brimming with it it certainly is standard kit includes useful stuff like
11:10adaptive cruise control 360 degree parking cameras parkis is plus two the one that steers for you yep
11:16that's standard but the optional sound and vision pack seems like the one to go for sound and vision
11:21sounds fancy what's in it a significantly larger head-up display for starters apparently 85 bigger than
11:27before 85 that's huge project speed nav warnings right onto the windscreen exactly much less looking down
11:34and then there's a sound system bangin olufsen ah always good how many speakers 20 speakers total
11:40output of 810 watts and it includes speakers actually integrated into the headrest and the headrest for
11:45more immersive sound presumably and they mentioned directed audio for phone calls so only the driver
11:51hears the call clearly oh that's clever very premium touch keeps conversations private it really showcases
11:57that focus on a sophisticated personalized environment and then of course there's the chat gpt integration
12:03right built-in ai assistant beyond just basic voice commands potentially much more capable yeah could be
12:10genuinely useful for complex questions on the move we'll have to see how well it works in practice
12:14interesting okay so beyond the screens and sounds what about the fundamental driving experience
12:21noise comfort they've clearly put effort into making the cabin quieter
12:26a lot of detailed work like what more sound deadening that but also repositioning it
12:31strategically using tighter seals around doors and windows reworking engine and transmission mounts
12:36to cut vibration even down to the transmission internals yes optimizing the gear teeth shape to
12:41reduce mechanical whine all adds up the claim is a 30 quieter cabin overall compared to the old a6 avant
12:4830 is a big number that should make for a much more fine relaxing drive that's the goal and then
12:54you've got suspension choices to tailor the ride and handling what are the options there standard is
12:59a comfort suspension claimed to be well comfier than before okay then there's a sport suspension
13:05stiffer obviously it lowers the car by 20 millimeters on the addition one trim giving
13:10it that more hunkered down look and feel exactly but the top option is the adaptive air suspension
13:15ah the air ride that usually offers the best blend doesn't it typically yes electronically
13:22controlled damping so you can adjust the firmness self-leveling which is great if you're carrying
13:27heavy loads or towing right stops the back end sagging and it can adjust the height automatically
13:32lower by 20 millimeters for stability at speed or you can raise it by 20 millimeter if you need extra
13:37ground clearance that sounds like the one to have really versatility i'd think so yeah very a feeling
13:43all models also get progressive steering so the steering ratio changes quicker at low speeds for
13:49parking slower and more stable on motorway precisely makes it easier to maneuver but less twitchy at
13:55speed they've also apparently stiffened the steering system itself and upgraded the front axle camera
14:01better feel and helps the driver assist systems work better i imagine and there's brake based torque
14:06vectoring too ah so it nibbles the inside brakes in a corner to help turn in reduce understeer exactly
14:13that helps agility the diesel model also gets a brake by wire system electronic braking why specifically
14:19the diesel likely ties into the mild hybrid system allows for smoother blending between regenerative
14:25braking and the traditional friction brakes more efficient energy recovery okay makes sense right
14:29the all-important question for many buyers christ how much does all this cost okay uk pricing the entry
14:36level petrol the front wheel drive one starts at just over 52 000 pounds 52 grand okay and the diesel
14:42quattro mild hybrid that one starts a bit higher just over 56 000 pounds 56 how does that stack
14:48up against the bmw and mercedes equivalents it compares reasonably well actually the entry bmw 520i
14:54touring is around 54 000 pounds so the petrol audi is cheaper the diesel audi is slightly dearer than
15:00the entry beamer correct and the mercedes e200 state starts higher still around 57 000 pounds okay so against
15:08the merc both audis look competitively priced especially the diesel quattro for just over 56k
15:13compared to the entry e-class at 57k yeah based on those starting figures the diesel a6 avant seems
15:20pretty well positioned in the segment price-wise interesting okay so bringing it all together then
