A pet tortoise has been reunited with its family weeks after it disappeared during a tornado. On March 15, a tornado ripped through Tylertown, Mississippi, leaving a trail of destruction. With only minutes to flee, a family had to leave behind their pet.

00:06Weeks after disappearing, Myrtle the pet tortoise has been reunited with his family and seems to be enjoying life.
00:13He's been through a lot and I know that he knows just as much as I do that every step of the way I'm going to be there.
00:20Helping him, caring for him, making sure he gets the help that he needs.
00:25Myrtle disappeared when a tornado ripped through the backyard where he lived.
00:30When his family returned after the storm, they found his house empty.
00:35The two pine trees, they fell directly over his house. One was on each side.
00:41What happened to Myrtle during the tornado remains a mystery.
00:45But weeks later, he was brought to a local tortoise shelter and reunited with his owner.
00:52She had sort of, you know, made peace with the fact that she'd probably never see him again.
00:58And lo and behold, a miracle.
01:01Now, Myrtle is being nursed back to health.
01:05It feels good to kind of have some kind of happy out of so much sad and grief and loss.
01:12For a community hit hard by the tornado, healing will take time and resilience.
