00:00We're going to get this party of pain started in the welterweight division.
00:04The long-awaited return.
00:06Two years for the undefeated Imantus Stagnonis.
00:09He takes on Gabriel Maestri, who's also undefeated.
00:13Stagnonis beat Maestri in the amateurs.
00:15And tonight here in Las Vegas,
00:17somebody's always going to get the David Copperfield treatment and disappear.
00:23If you look at this fight, this should be a ton of fun here.
00:25Both guys expected it with an opportunity.
00:27But Stagnonis, who's had a two-year layoff,
00:29it's been a while, does the rust affect him?
00:31And back tomorrow now.
00:33All right, Amal, thank you very much.
00:34Pre-eminent cup man, Jacob Stitch Duran,
00:37preparing for battle with Gabriel Maestri.
00:40There is the smiling Imantus Stagnonis.
00:42That smile has not left his face all week
00:44because here's a guy who for two years has been waiting to try to get a fight.
00:49And no blame to anybody.
00:52It was health issues.
00:52He had an appendectomy that ruined the first fight with Virgil Ortiz.
00:55Ortiz had recurring health issues that scuttered the next two fights.
00:59Of course, Ortiz returned with a monstrous liver shot knockout of the common opponent,
01:05Thomas Delorme.
01:06Stagnonis went the distance with Delorme.
01:08But let us go to the tale of the tape now
01:11and tell you how these two welterweights match up again.
01:14A shared history in the amateurs.
01:16Back in 2015, Stagnonis emerged victorious.
01:19And here tonight, Maestri with a one-inch height advantage.
01:23Both of them have a 69-inch reach.
01:25And both of them say they are coming to do battle on this Cinco de Mayo weekend.
01:34147-pound weight class.
01:35The welterweights always bring it.

04:50Any punches here will be legal, okay?
04:52I want you to obey my commands,
04:53give me a good, clean fight.
04:54Most importantly, don't make this about me.
04:55Touch him up, scoop back.
04:57Amen, Mr. Hoyle.
05:01Robert Hoyle, the referee for this pivotal fight
05:05to kick off the PBC PPV from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
05:10A couple of undefeated welterweights renewing acquaintances,
05:15but this time they're getting paid.
05:17The bell and round number one,
05:30Stagniones, representing the Republic of Lithuania,
05:34country in the Baltic region of Europe,
05:36close to three million people call it home.
05:38Most of them will be watching this fight.
05:41Now, basketball is the most popular
05:42and national sport of the country,
05:45and for sports fans,
05:47well, we're hoping that Maestrei and Stagniones
05:50go at it like the Knicks and the 76ers did
05:52in the opening round of the NBA playoffs.
05:54Stagniones looking to become Lithuania's
05:57first recognized world champion in the sport
06:00and immediately looking to establish the jab on Maestrei.
06:04That's his power shot.
06:06Stagniones, he's got a power jab.
06:08He walks right in front of you with it,
06:10and that's what you got to do,
06:11break that guard like he's doing right now.
06:13And Maestrei, well, he's going to try to box Stagniones
06:16and try to make mistakes and counter on that.
06:19And while Maestrei comes in undefeated,
06:23he very well should have one loss on that record
06:26coming against Michael Fox,
06:27was dropped by a countered left hook
06:29and very disputed decision.
06:33And he also went to a draw with Harris,
06:35but he is undefeated and on the fast track
06:38at 37 years of age,
06:40just his eighth professional fight, Joe.
06:42But this is it.
06:55A minute and a half left here in the opening round.
07:00Stagniones and Joe,
07:01I know we lost it there for a second,
07:04but talking about Stagniones and Maestrei
07:06and their history
07:08and how it plays a part here tonight,
07:09even though it's almost a decade ago.
07:11Yeah, of course.
07:12They saw each other
07:14and fought each other in the amateurs,
07:15and this is, again, an extension of that.
07:19But right now,
07:20what you've got is Stagniones
07:21doing what he does best.
07:23He puts on a lot of pressure.
07:24He doesn't take a step backwards.
07:26He's landed some decent punches
07:27already in the first round here.
07:29And I think he's got the advantage
07:30going his way right now
07:32with hooks and jabs
07:33and good pressure.
07:34Although Maestrei is always dangerous.
07:37He's a good puncher himself.
07:38He's got five knockouts and six wins,
07:41so he can bang two.
07:42Let's see how this works out.
07:43Both of them are banging here
07:45in the first round after.
07:46Yeah, yeah, Maestrei's trying to cover up good.
07:48I mean, he's trying to block that left hook.
07:49But again, the combinations
07:51that Stagniones is throwing perfectly,
07:53one, two, three, four punches,
07:54and ending to the body.
07:56And while Maestrei went down against Fox,
07:59Stagniones has never been down.
08:02And both of them throwing over 50 punches
08:04here in the opening round.
08:06Stagniones has a 10-punch lead
08:09in terms of connected shots.
08:11But Maestrei sitting in the pocket,
08:12leading with that right hand.
08:13Double left hook upstairs by Stagniones.
08:16And the double left hook from Maandre.
08:18But they weren't as eye-catching.
08:22Fun first round here.
08:24For Stagniones finally able to say,
08:26I'm a professional fighter again.
08:28Cut!
08:35Let me down.
08:43And then right here,
08:44we're going to see a replay of Stagniones
08:46letting his hand down.
08:48And Maestrei capitalizing with that hook.
08:51But again, Stagniones always on top of him as well.
08:54Later on in the round,
08:55that power jab that we talked about,
08:57Stagniones,
08:58it's just so powerful.
09:00Beautiful.
09:01It's not a feel-out type of jab.
09:02He wants to hurt you with it.
09:04Yeah.
09:04It feels like the right hand
09:06when you turn that over like that.
09:08But at least you make that race,
09:09this expression.
09:10Stagniones is trained by Marvin Simodio,
09:23longtime acolyte of Hall of Famer Freddie Roach.
09:25Freddie Roach, of course,
09:26will be in his corner in the main event.
09:29Second fight with Roach in his corner
09:32against Canelo for the undisputed
09:34super middleweight title.
09:36But here is round number two.
09:38And Maestrei looks to establish the jab.
09:40A catapult right hand
09:41that was blocked by Stagniones.
09:43But Maestrei doing a good job
09:44of diversifying his attack.
09:47That was a beautiful right hand.
09:48He tried right there, Maestrei.
09:49And that's the same right hand
09:52that he dropped his last opponent.
09:54So he's going to be looking for that, Maestrei.
09:57There it is again.
09:58And lands the combination,
09:59splitting that high guard.
10:01And Stagniones known for the high guard.
10:03And Maestrei addressed it in the fighter meetings,
10:05just caught that right hand.
10:07Joe, the high guard,
10:07you want to attack the arms,
10:09you want to attack the shoulders
10:10like Canelo does to break down guards.
10:13And Maestrei's going to try to do that here tonight.
10:15Yeah, Maestrei is going to try to do that.
10:16But Stagniones just came off with a great combination.
10:19He started it off with a slip to the right,
10:21came back with the right hand,
10:22left hook and right hand.
10:23He landed some jarring punches,
10:24and it buckled Maestrei briefly.
10:28So right now, Stagniones is the guy
10:31that's doing the damage.
10:32I think he's the harder puncher right now.
10:34And that stiff jab of his is incredible
10:36when he pulls it.
10:37We got to point out that he's been out for two years,
10:39and he doesn't seem like it's the absolute start.
10:41Amazing start.
10:42He threw 62 punches in the first round,
10:45landed 24.
10:46Maestrei no such, threw 64 punches,
10:48just not as accurate with only 12 connects.
10:51And there's a nice uppercut on the inside by Stagniones.
10:54So these guys are going toe-to-toe at half a time.
10:57And I'm surprised Maestrei's sitting in the pocket
11:00with him right now,
11:00because he can box a little bit, you know?
11:02And yet I'm not after talking to him on what he said.
11:04He said this is what he was going to do.
11:06He's going to prove that he can fight fire with fire
11:08against Stagniones.
11:09But you're right, Joe.
11:10He can box, but it's prideful.
11:12He can talk to the pay-per-view.
11:15That's right.
11:15And look what he's doing now.
11:16He is actually trying to move a little bit,
11:18even though he's stuck on the ropes right now.
11:19But Stagniones does not make it easy for him to move,
11:21but he's going to be on top of him.
11:22So he's going to turn this into a fight, into a brawl.
11:25And Maestrei, he's going to fall for it.
11:27Again, one thing he said he was going to work on
11:29is that defense.
11:30I see his hands down.
11:31You've got to pick those hands up, Maestrei.
11:33Lots going on in the welterweight division.
11:35A lot of movement, in fact.
11:36A lot of people going up to 154.
11:38But in the words of the dearly departed Nipsey Hussle,
11:41last time that I checked,
11:42Terrence Crawford remained the ring welterweight champion.
11:44Jerron Ennis has a claim to the title.
11:46Both these guys would like to enter the conversations.
11:49Yeah, you're talking about two of the best.
12:01Nice uppercut right there by Maestrei.
12:03You know, there's some beautiful uppercuts at the inside.
12:07Nice right hand by Stagniones.
12:09And I mean, again, you wanted a firefight.
12:11We are getting it here.
12:12It's round two.
12:13Both of them again,
12:14throwing in excess of 60 punches around
12:17to kick off this fight and my strapping success.
12:20Stagniones clipped him with the left hook upstairs.
12:22And now that bludgeoning jab of Stagniones going to work.
12:26Yeah, Stagniones' punches just look much sharper
12:28and crisper right now.
12:29He landed a good right hand earlier
12:31before that left hook.
12:33And it was a vicious right hand.
12:36Very nice.
12:36Very nice.
12:37Breathe.
12:37Breathe.
12:39Breathe.
12:39Oh, my.
12:45You heard him.
12:46Yes, you heard him.
12:47You heard him with that one.
12:50Now, what you need to do,
12:52the only thing that I'm asking you, please,
12:55to flex your waist,
12:56it's very important
12:57because you're very good doing that.
12:58All right?
12:59So at the end of the round,
13:01you were too straight.
13:02You can't be straight.
13:03Yeah.
13:03All right?
13:04Come on, son.
13:05Let's go.
13:05Move your head, son.
13:15There was that jab that we've been talking about.
13:18Well timed right there by Maestri.
13:21Yeah.
13:21It was beautiful.
13:22And then he's going to go right to the liver there.
13:24He sneaks it in, Maestri.
13:26And again, a short one-two hook right hand,
13:28four-punch combination.
13:30It didn't look like it had a lot of steam on it,
13:32but he landed it.
13:33That's one thing.
13:34He throws a lot, Maestri,
13:35but he misses too much.
13:36I like what they tell him on the corner.
13:38Move your head a lot more.
13:40Do not make it easy
13:41for Montes Agnones to land on you.
13:44Yeah.
13:44Ishmael Salas brings a lot of calm
13:46and confidence in the corner.
13:49I like what he had to say.
13:50Beautiful combination by Maestri,
13:52but then gets rocked with that left hook.
13:54And the jab.
13:55Oh, that's a sharp jab by Stanionis.
13:59And here's the thing.
14:00When you've got a guy like Stanionis
14:01putting pressure on you
14:02and you've got to move
14:03and you feel threatened,
14:05it wears you out
14:06and it takes energy out of you.
14:07And that can really work
14:09to Stanionis' advantage.
14:11Jab from Maestri.
14:12And again,
14:12he's right there in front
14:14of Stanionis.
14:15Nice counter left hand by Maestri
14:17and lands the right as well.
14:18And Stanionis now bobbing and leaving
14:20the ball throwing good defense
14:21but gets tagged.
14:23Nice chopping right hand
14:24by Stanionis.
14:25And they are just going at it
14:28from the jump, you guys.
14:30Nice back and forth action
14:31from both fighters.
14:32But one thing that I like
14:34from Maestri is that
14:35he's timing Stanionis.
14:36Okay, he's letting him get off first,
14:38but he's waiting for him
14:39to drop his hat
14:40and time him with that hook.
14:42He's done it twice already.
14:43Yeah, off the hook to the body
14:44and tries to counter
14:45with his right hand.
14:46And Stanionis is getting
14:47his hands back quicker
14:48because he felt that counter.
14:50But one thing Stanionis does
14:51is he can throw a long jab
14:53or he can throw a jab
14:54when you're in close,
14:54not expecting one.
14:56You know, a lot of guys
14:57will just lean forward
14:58and bump on the inside.
15:00Stanionis will throw
15:00that short jab
15:01when he's hitting
15:02is this what Salas meant
15:04by flexing the waist
15:05of Maestri?
15:06Yes.
15:07Even if you're bringing
15:08your hands down, yes,
15:08but you gotta keep him up
15:10because, again,
15:11Stanionis is so accurate
15:12with disquenches.
15:13But yes,
15:14the bending of the knees
15:15and moving your head
15:16is perfect.
15:16I think this is
15:18a better strategy
15:19for Maestri
15:20moving a little bit,
15:21jabbing.
15:22Not making it easy
15:23for Sanyar Sulem.
15:24And he's missing
15:25a lot of these punches.
15:28But he's making a mistake
15:29sitting on the roof right there.
15:30I know, he's sitting
15:31left in the third
15:33while the trap might be
15:34from Stanionis.
15:35Another chopping right hand.
15:37No!
15:37I got you.
15:39Momentary lapse
15:39in the action,
15:40catching a breather.
15:41Yes, Stanionis landed
15:43about three good right hands
15:44when Maestri just sat
15:46on the ropes there.
15:47It's not advised to do that.
15:49I wouldn't like it
15:50if I was in the corner.
15:52I'd advise him
15:52to stay off the ropes
15:53as much as he could.
15:54Stanionis, known for his
15:55high guard,
15:56the effective jab,
15:57a potent right uppercut,
15:58solid left hook,
15:59doesn't neglect the body.
16:02And Maestri,
16:03he's also a pressure fighter,
16:04aggressive.
16:05So you put those ingredients
16:07together,
16:07and styles make fights.
16:09Time fighting,
16:10that's what we're seeing tonight.
16:11And right now,
16:11Maestri, again,
16:12Maestri just missing too much.
16:14Right there,
16:14that's where he needs to stand.
16:15Those uppercuts
16:16in the last round
16:17is what was landing,
16:18so make it work.
16:19Stay in there.
16:19Let's go.
16:20Let's go.
16:20Let's go.
16:24Let's go.
16:26Diego!
16:27Diego!
16:28Diego!
16:29Diego!
16:29Diego!
16:29Diego!
16:30Diego!
16:30Diego!
16:31Diego!
16:31Diego!
16:32Diego!
16:33Diego!
16:34Diego!
16:35Diego!
16:36Diego!
16:37Diego!
16:37Diego!
16:38Diego!
16:38Marvin Samodio,
16:40the 37-year-old former member
16:42of the Philippine National Amateur Team
16:44with over 100 amateur fights
16:45and a former pro minimum weight
16:47who retired in 2011
16:49and, of course,
16:50a longtime assistant
16:52to Hall of Fame trainer,
16:53Freddie Roach.
16:55After 1-3, sir,
16:56go back to the Jets.
16:57Right?
16:58Start and finish the Jets.
17:00Right?
17:00That's not very important.
17:01If you were like,
17:02you were like,
17:02you were like,
17:03you were like,
17:04standing on your knees,
17:05short shots of the body,
17:06short shots of the body,
17:07you're hurt,
17:07right?
17:07All right?
17:08All right.
17:09All right.
17:09All right.
17:09All right.
17:11You'll just get it?
17:13I don't think you're okay.
17:14Okay.
17:14If you go around,
17:15so you just keep it easy,
17:17easy.
17:17Up hard punches all the time.
17:19All right.
17:19Let's go!
17:19So, we were saying,
17:24career-long,
17:26750-day layoff
17:28for San Jonas and Abner,
17:29you alluded to it earlier.
17:30Ring rust?
17:31What?
17:32Ring rust?
17:32Let's not forget,
17:34he had three training camps
17:35for Virgil Ortiz.
17:37Correct.
17:37And so,
17:38he was always in the gym.
17:39And guess what?
17:40He's a professional.
17:41Exactly.
17:41He was staying ready
17:42to be in the gym,
17:44and that's why
17:44it's showing today.
17:49Well, here's my answer.
17:50He's sitting back
17:50in the pocket again.
17:51You know,
17:52choosing to do so
17:53and getting clipped
17:54with some good short punches
17:55from Stan Jonas,
17:56who's obviously
17:57the heavy-handed,
17:58more heavy-handed man.
18:00And I think
18:00why he's doing this also
18:02is, I think,
18:03backing up,
18:03moving his head
18:04like he was earlier,
18:05it tires you out
18:06a lot more
18:07than just staying
18:07in the pocket.
18:08He was breathing heavily
18:09at the end of the last round.
18:10His mouth was open
18:10here.
18:11Exactly right, Abner.
18:12He just catches punches.
18:14Despite the fact
18:14that this is
18:15Maestri's eighth
18:16professional fight,
18:17over 300 amateur fights,
18:19a two-time Olympian
18:20for Venezuela
18:212012 and 2016,
18:23where Stan Jonas
18:25represented Lithuania.
18:26They were on
18:26different sides
18:27of the bracket,
18:27didn't make it
18:28to the final,
18:28but they made it
18:29to the big stage
18:30here in Las Vegas
18:31to kick off
18:32the Cinco de Mayo
18:33weekend pay-per-view.
18:35And boy,
18:36are they delivering
18:37the goods early.
18:39Yeah, even more
18:40for Maestri
18:41with six fives
18:41in this card.
18:42I mean,
18:43beautiful,
18:44great for him.
18:47Stan Jonas
18:48just looks like
18:49he's the sharper,
18:50crisper puncher
18:51right now.
18:52And it looks like
18:53Maestri
18:54is actually
18:54slowing down
18:55a little bit
18:55and taking
18:56a little steam
18:57off his punches.
18:58They just don't
18:58look like they're
18:59having any effect
19:00on Stan Jonas.
19:01Well,
19:01he's already landed,
19:03and I speak
19:03of Stan Jonas
19:04over 100 punches
19:05in this fight,
19:07including that
19:07double left hook
19:08of the right hand,
19:08that chopping right hand
19:10that Maestri felt
19:11and is hanging on now.
19:12Franklin, Franklin,
19:13there we go.
19:14Yeah,
19:14that body language
19:15is saying something
19:16for sure
19:16on Maestri.
19:18And I get
19:19the right hand.
19:20The body work
19:20that Stan Jonas
19:21is doing
19:22is just brilliant.
19:23It's perfect.
19:23I mean,
19:23everything that
19:24he's doing,
19:25the combinations,
19:26he's putting
19:26his punches together
19:27really well.
19:27And let's not forget
19:28that fundamental stick,
19:29Joe,
19:30the jab.
19:31It's like a lightning bolt here.
19:33Precise,
19:33a lot of speed,
19:34and very effective
19:35for Stan Jonas.
19:36and just chop that right hand
19:37right off the temple
19:38of Maestri as well.
19:41But you're right,
19:41the jab is really,
19:42guys that usually pressure
19:43like this don't throw
19:45that many jabs.
19:46And he does,
19:47and it really works
19:48to his advantage.
19:49He's fighting
19:49his seventh consecutive
19:51opponent who is taller
19:53than his 5'8".
19:54We talked about that
19:55in the tale of the tape.
19:57And Stan Jonas
19:58is considered,
19:59I guess,
19:59short for today's
20:00welterweight's
20:015'8".
20:02That's a beautiful job
20:04right there,
20:05Mark Maestri.
20:05You gotta keep busy.
20:07You gotta keep
20:07Stan Jonas busy.
20:08But, I mean,
20:09it's hard,
20:10obviously,
20:10because Stan Jonas
20:11is on top of you,
20:12and he's tiring you out.
20:13Nice defense from Stan Jonas.
20:21Combination from Maestri.
20:23We close out
20:24the first third
20:25of the scheduled
20:2612-rounder
20:27to kick off
20:27the BBC TV.
20:28We are cooking
20:29here at
20:30Welterweight.
20:32That was a good fight
20:33for Jesus Ramos.
20:34Patient,
20:35and like you said,
20:36he wasn't gonna weight
20:37like he did
20:37in the Lubin fight,
20:38and he went for the kill
20:39in this fight.
20:41This is round five.
20:44Abner,
20:45I know we've mentioned
20:46the first third
20:46of the fight.
20:47As a fighter,
20:49as an analyst,
20:50I mean,
20:51I think Joe mentioned it,
20:52the fact that Maestri
20:53should be more of a boxer.
20:54Any other adjustments
20:55you think he should make
20:56that could give him
20:56a chance to try
20:57to solve the riddle
20:58of Stan Jonas better?
20:59Well,
21:00it's hard,
21:01especially because
21:01Stan Jonas is throwing
21:02in a lot,
21:02but for Maestri,
21:05just stay busy.
21:06Even if the punches
21:07don't come with
21:07a lot of pop,
21:08like right there,
21:09work the body,
21:09break down
21:10Stan Jonas a little bit,
21:11invest in that body,
21:12and the uppercut
21:13is beautiful for him.
21:15It's been landing,
21:16so try to sneak
21:17in those uppercuts
21:17as well.
21:18And Joe again.
21:20Well, I'll ask you,
21:20do you believe
21:21in ring rust, Joe,
21:22as a philosophy?
21:23Yeah, sure.
21:24I've seen it.
21:25It can happen.
21:26I've had a fighter recently
21:27that was out
21:27for about a year,
21:29came back in,
21:29he goes,
21:29I really felt awkward
21:31in the first couple rounds
21:32until I got going.
21:33Does this look like
21:34a guy who's been opportune?
21:35No, no, it doesn't.
21:36Like I said,
21:37not everybody.
21:38And Stan Jonas,
21:39again,
21:40he's got a type of style
21:42that it's kind of
21:44a basic pressure style,
21:46and you can take
21:49some time off
21:49and come back
21:50and do this again.
21:50That's right.
21:51When you look
21:51at the combinations
21:52after the one-two
21:53punctuated with the
21:54right uppercut
21:54on the inside.
21:55There, you gotta
21:56follow it up, Stan Jonas.
21:58That hook is landing
21:59the right hand as well,
22:00but keep throwing punches.
22:01The combination,
22:02after you land that big shot,
22:03follow it up
22:03with another big shot.
22:05There you go.
22:12Jab backing Maestra up.
22:15Battering ram of a jab
22:17and in close.
22:18And the high guard.
22:19Stan Jonas is so
22:20responsible defensively
22:22despite the constant
22:23pressure and the output.
22:24And we talk about
22:25the output.
22:26He's landed 131
22:27of 310 punches thus far
22:29compared to 81
22:30of 327 for Maestra.
22:32And it's the final minute
22:33of the fifth round.
22:35Nice left hook
22:36from Stan Jonas.
22:38Stan Jonas is very
22:38efficient with his punches,
22:40even though he's backing up here.
22:41And I don't know why.
22:42He may have gotten hit
22:42with a good body shot,
22:44I think,
22:44about 10 seconds ago.
22:46And it bothered him.
22:47Yeah.
22:47And Maestra, again,
22:48he's throwing his flurries,
22:49he's throwing combinations,
22:50but nothing behind
22:51those punches.
22:52And with that high guard
22:53that Stan Jonas has,
22:54it's impossible
22:56to get him in.
22:57Our unofficial score,
22:58nice left hook upstairs
22:59by Maestra.
23:00Larry Hazard has
23:01Stan Jonas winning
23:0339-37.
23:05He gave Maestra
23:05round number three.
23:08And Maestra having
23:09some success here as well.
23:12But eats another left hook.
23:15Nice body work
23:16from Maestra.
23:17That's what you need
23:18to do.
23:18Okay, the head shots,
23:19the punches to the face.
23:21Are you going in?
23:22Work the body.
23:22Rip to the body.
23:23One thing Maestra
23:25wanted to work on
23:26was keeping his hands up.
23:27He has the propensity
23:28of wrapping his hands.
23:29You don't want to do so
23:31against a guy like Stan Jonas.
23:37Golden Knights
23:37defending Stanley Cup champions.
23:39And boy,
23:40the NBA and NHL playoffs
23:41are cooking.
23:42And so far,
23:43we are doing the same thing here
23:44to kick off the second
23:45PBC pay-per-view.
23:47And Stan Jonas and Maestra
23:48going toe-to-toe
23:49to kick off round six.
23:51Maestra is starting
23:53to open up.
23:54I think he's gaining
23:54a little confidence.
23:56He just got hurt.
23:57He's going to lose
23:58all his confidence.
24:00But he's still firing back now.
24:02Maestra's got some power.
24:03And he's showing it now.
24:05It looked like he was
24:06slowing down a couple
24:06of rounds ago
24:07and wasn't punching us.
24:08But he's starting
24:09to whip it in there right now
24:10and land his shot.
24:11And there's another
24:11sharp jab, Joe.
24:12And the reason I bring it up
24:13is because Stan Jonas
24:14is landing 13 jabs per round.
24:17That is more than double
24:18the welterweight average.
24:20Jabs landed.
24:20And now he's landing
24:21in the right arm.
24:22I talk about double.
24:22That was a double triple jab.
24:24I mean, right hand
24:25from Stan Jonas.
24:26You want to keep going
24:27with that right hand.
24:28But again, follow it up
24:29with the uppercut
24:29or another left hook.
24:31But follow it up.
24:32And don't just keep it going
24:34with one.
24:35And Maestra took it well.
24:37I mean, he got some clean shots.
24:40And you knew he felt it.
24:41But he didn't buckle.
24:42He didn't drop.
24:43So he took it well.
24:45But you don't want to take
24:46those all night long.
24:47Don't catch up to it.
24:48He's been taking some hard
24:51shots, Maestri.
24:55It's interesting that Maestri
24:57has faced four southpaws
24:58in the seven pro fights
24:59facing the orthodox
25:01Stan Jonas tonight.
25:02And Maestri bouncing those
25:03punches off the high guard
25:05of Stan Jonas,
25:05who again established the jab.
25:08As Steven Bredman Edwards
25:09and all trainers will tell you,
25:10the jab can build rhythm
25:12or it can break rhythm.
25:13Establish it and bust it.
25:15And Stan Jonas uses it
25:16in all forms, Joe.
25:18He does.
25:19And like I say,
25:20it's very unusual
25:21to have a pressure fighter
25:22like that use the jab
25:23so efficiently.
25:25It's usually there are
25:26other power shots
25:27that get the job done.
25:28But he's really good with it.
25:30But Maestro, look,
25:31Maestro, he's a smart guy.
25:33He's tough.
25:34And he's hanging in there
25:34and he's fighting back.
25:36And I think he's actually
25:37doing better to the body
25:39than he is to the head.
25:40But the right uppercut
25:41remains a very effective
25:43weapon for Stan Jonas.
25:44All of his punches
25:45are effective weapons.
25:46Yeah, and not just
25:47the right hand,
25:48the uppercut,
25:48the body shot.
25:49Again, when he lets
25:50his punches go,
25:51I mean, it's just so powerful
25:52in that jab.
25:53Straight jab,
25:53splitting the guard.
25:55And that's in close, too.
25:57That's not long distance.
25:58It's a power jab.
25:59It's a set-up punch.
26:01I mean, it's everything
26:02for Stan Jonas right now.
26:03Ooh, that body hurt.
26:04Then upstairs
26:04with the right hand,
26:06beautiful punch placement,
26:07composure, maturity,
26:09utilizing the ring,
26:10turning.
26:12There's a reason
26:13that I'm on to Stan Jonas
26:14is considered
26:15one of the fighters
26:16to watch
26:17in the welterweight division.
26:18Another solid right hand.
26:20And of course,
26:21in his last fight, though,
26:22he was in tough
26:23against Raja Butaya
26:25back in April of 2022.
26:27We'll forgive you
26:27if you forgot about that fight,
26:29but it was a tough fight
26:30for Stan Jonas,
26:32who survived.
26:37All right,
26:39what a great fight here
26:40to kick off the night
26:41and still to come.
26:42He's in the zone.
26:43It's a big night for him.
26:44And of course,
26:45Freddie Roach
26:45is all about being aggressive,
26:47being destructive,
26:48led Manny Pacquiao
26:49to so many memorable victories,
26:51but still being
26:52defensively responsive.
26:54Absolutely.
26:54And that's one area
26:55where Munguia
26:56definitely has to shore it up.
26:58And, Joe,
26:59we talked about this,
26:59and we'll return our attention
27:00to this fight,
27:01but one training camp
27:03is not going to help a fighter
27:04become a master defensively.
27:06It takes time.
27:06It does take time,
27:08but look,
27:08anything that helps
27:10will be an improvement.
27:12And if he can shore up
27:14that defense
27:15even by 20, 30%,
27:17it will be a factor
27:18in this fight.
27:19And what's a factor
27:20in this fight
27:20we're watching right now
27:22is the versatile offense
27:24of Imantis Stan Jonas,
27:26but Gabriel Maestri,
27:27who has a decorated
27:29amateur career,
27:30is trying to
27:31knock off Stan Jonas,
27:33and he wants to become
27:34a name to be reckoned with
27:35at 147,
27:36and find some success
27:37with that right uppercut
27:38on the inside.
27:39See, it's uppercuts
27:40for Maestri.
27:41The inside punches,
27:42all right,
27:42Stan Jonas is going to
27:43close his guard
27:44and stay right there.
27:45Work the inside punches.
27:47Don't go for the outside
27:47because it's a perfect
27:48body shot uppercut.
27:50And you want to keep
27:50doing that if you're Maestri.
27:52And time him.
27:53He did it a couple of times.
27:55Time and Stan Jonas.
27:56Effective punching,
27:57the number one criteria
27:59when it comes to
27:59judging a fight,
28:01judging each round.
28:02Total punches landed.
28:03Stan Jonas with a huge edge.
28:04A lot of them eye-catching.
28:11Right uppercut.
28:12Lead right uppercut
28:12by Stan Jonas.
28:14Oh, that jab.
28:17And Maestri,
28:18you know,
28:18he's got a good jab.
28:19His hands are low,
28:20you guys, Maestri.
28:21Talked about keeping
28:22his hands up.
28:22We're seeing him go back
28:23lower and back down again.
28:25So not sticking
28:26to the game plan.
28:27And the body work,
28:28obviously,
28:28has a lot to do with it.
28:30The body work
28:30that Stan Jonas is doing
28:31to Maestri.
28:32Larry Hazard's
28:33unofficial scorecard
28:34has Stan Jonas
28:35comfortably ahead.
28:36Right uppercut again
28:51by Stan Jonas,
28:52by Maestri,
28:53putting together combinations
28:54and showing good defense
28:56on the inside,
28:56except there.
28:57Eight, two jabs
28:58right through the guard.
29:00Look, for somebody
29:01that's only got six,
29:02seven fights,
29:03Maestri,
29:04he fights like a veteran.
29:05There's no problem about it.
29:06And at 37,
29:07he is a veteran of life.
29:14That's what's really
29:14working for Maestri
29:15is that little uppercut.
29:16Yeah, it has been.
29:18The timing,
29:19I mean,
29:19just waiting for
29:20for Stan Jonas
29:20to make that mistake.
29:21But again,
29:22does he have
29:23that one power knockout?
29:25I mean,
29:26not really.
29:27Well,
29:27you see in that display
29:28right there,
29:29those punches,
29:29a lot of them
29:30were arm punches
29:31and now he's doing
29:32what Joe Goosen
29:33recommended
29:34to become more mobile,
29:36but he's still getting tagged
29:37and gets tagged hard
29:38with that jab.
29:39So,
29:40through round seven,
29:41it's Imanis Dan Jonas
29:42in control.
29:44Ismael Salas,
30:11Marvin Simodio
30:11in their respective quarters.
30:13We saw even
30:17against Butaev,
30:19Stan Jonas' face
30:20got marked up a bit
30:22and it may just be
30:23that again,
30:24some great shots
30:24landed by Maestri
30:26as well,
30:27but the jabs,
30:28my friend,
30:28it all begins
30:29with the jab,
30:30Abner.
30:31We've been talking
30:32about it all night long
30:33and look,
30:35here's a prime example
30:37of it.
30:38Shot right down the road,
30:39just a beautiful
30:40straight jab,
30:41short jab,
30:42long jab,
30:43he's very accurate.
30:44round number eight,
30:48scheduled for 12,
30:50and it's been a,
30:51well,
30:51we talked about
30:52a fiesta of fists,
30:53we're getting that
30:54early on in this
30:55pay-per-view
30:56to kick things off,
30:57and as we scouted
30:58these fighters
31:00and talked about them,
31:01Abner,
31:01and this is the style,
31:02this is the fight
31:03they say that we're
31:04going to deliver
31:04and it is playing out
31:06exactly like that,
31:08maybe not to the benefit
31:09of Maestri,
31:10but the fans
31:11who paid their
31:11hard-earned money
31:12and who are watching
31:12the PBC pay-per-view
31:14have to be happy.
31:15Yeah, yeah,
31:15still a really interesting
31:17and exciting fight
31:18for the fight fans.
31:19Maestri definitely not
31:20doing what he said
31:20he was going to do,
31:21he said he was going to box,
31:22put his hands up,
31:23you know,
31:23more volume,
31:24get him with the overhand
31:25right,
31:25but again,
31:26not doing that,
31:27but again,
31:28Esteniones is just strong,
31:29the power jab,
31:30just walking through,
31:31Maestri's guard as well
31:32and again,
31:34that right hand
31:34is on cue
31:35for Esteniones.
31:37You really don't have
31:38a lot of choice
31:39when you're fighting
31:40Esteniones.
31:41You're going to try to box
31:42but he's going to
31:43track you down
31:44really quick,
31:45he's got fast feet,
31:46he puts on a lot of pressure,
31:47he forces you to fight
31:48on the inside
31:49whether you like it or not.
31:50Doing that,
31:50he's doing that right there.
31:51This moment
31:51as Maestri tries
31:53to finally come back
31:54but the power edge
31:56just in terms of
31:57the naked eye,
31:59it's Esteniones
32:00who has the more
32:00solid shots.
32:03Yeah,
32:03definitely the more
32:04eye-catching shots
32:05from Esteniones.
32:07Beautiful uppercut,
32:08the jab again.
32:10Okay,
32:10he jabs his way inside.
32:12Stay at a distance
32:13and throw the right hand
32:14of yours, Esteniones
32:15because that right hand
32:16is definitely landing.
32:17Nice counter left
32:32from Esteniones.
32:33And then Esteniones
32:35got countered by a left.
32:36They both traded off
32:37on that.
32:39And that comes to show you
32:40the proficiency
32:41of the counterpunching
32:42of both these guys.
32:45Final minute
32:46of the eighth.
32:52They have already
32:53combined
32:54to throw
32:55over 1,000 punches
32:57here
32:59in the eighth round.
33:00Not just
33:01in the eighth round
33:02but through
33:02the seven rounds
33:04of change here,
33:05I mean,
33:05that's an incredible output.
33:08Yeah,
33:08this is the
33:09most quiet round,
33:11I think.
33:11Yeah.
33:11This is the end
33:11of the whole aisle.
33:13And yet,
33:14they're still throwing
33:1550 and 60 punches.
33:17And for a guy
33:18that's been catching
33:19and eating those
33:20big shots
33:21like Maestro has
33:21and for him
33:22to still be throwing
33:23punches like this,
33:23I mean,
33:24you gotta give it to him.
33:25Conditioning.
33:26Yeah.
33:27And good chin.
33:29Tungsten Steele.
33:31Final 10 seconds
33:32of the eighth.
33:34Maestro trying
33:34to come forward.
33:37This corner
33:39exhorting him
33:41as we go to nine.
33:46176 punches
33:48in one round.
33:51I've had fighters
33:52throw about 130,
33:54140,
33:54which is a lot,
33:55of 176 punches
33:57just out of the sport.
33:58And he and Stephen Fulton,
33:59I mean,
33:59they gave the CompuBox
34:01trackers carpal tunnel syndrome.
34:04It's round number nine.
34:05Thank you, Joe.
34:06A few seconds late,
34:07but you got it.
34:07There's the jab
34:08from Maestro,
34:10but it's Danielas
34:11again establishing his stick.
34:16Well, Maestro's
34:17doing the same
34:17with the jab
34:18and going to the body,
34:20trying to chip away
34:21after trying to wear
34:22down Daniels,
34:23trying to slow
34:23his momentum.
34:24Yeah,
34:24he's trying to slow
34:25his momentum,
34:26definitely.
34:27And a lot of those
34:28shots that
34:28has been landing,
34:30I like what
34:30Maestro's been doing.
34:31He's been rolling
34:32with them.
34:33They haven't been
34:33flushed because
34:34he turns his head.
34:35So, again,
34:36good for Maestro's
34:37experience there,
34:38but I'm liking
34:39the inside punches
34:39right now for Maestro.
34:40There it is.
34:41Beautiful body shots.
34:43And again,
34:43you keep working
34:44those uppercuts
34:44because
34:45is open for those.
34:50Nice counter right hand
34:51over the top
34:52by Stan Yunus
34:53just missed
34:53the right uppercut.
34:55Stan Yunus
34:55has been clubbing
34:56that right hand
34:57all night long
34:58and this round
34:59in particular.
34:59He's probably
35:00landed three or four
35:01of them already
35:01and I'm sure
35:02he's going to throw
35:03like that.
35:05If he's in close,
35:06he's going to throw
35:06that right hand,
35:07no doubt,
35:08and he's going to
35:08try to chop down
35:09on his ear with it
35:10like,
35:10got tied up first.
35:18Now,
35:18high guard
35:19nice counter
35:22left hook
35:22by Stan Yunus.
35:24Maestro continues
35:25to go to the body.
35:26Tries to find a way
35:27of knockoff balance
35:28with that left hook
35:28from Stan Yunus.
35:30And now Maestro
35:31working on combinations.
35:33I think Maestro
35:34had the better
35:35of the exchange
35:36right there,
35:36for sure.
35:37It looked like
35:37he got buzzed
35:38and then he came
35:38back with a great
35:39five punch combination,
35:40right?
35:40One of his better
35:41rounds, though.
35:42He's leading
35:43seven to one
35:44in terms of body
35:44shots landed
35:45throwing more
35:46than Stan Yunus
35:48and he's right there
35:49in terms of
35:49total connects
35:50in this round.
35:52And again,
35:53I mean,
35:53for a guy
35:53who's eating
35:54those shots,
35:55for him to be
35:55treated,
35:56perfect,
35:56good for him.
35:57Final 60 seconds
35:59of the ninth
36:00and deceleration
36:02from Stan Yunus
36:03in this round
36:04in terms of
36:04punch output.
36:05Definitely,
36:06again,
36:07I don't know
36:07if he's taking
36:08this round off.
36:09He has been
36:10throwing a lot,
36:11so it's hard
36:12to keep going
36:13as well.
36:14So it might be
36:15one of those rounds
36:15for him.
36:17Well,
36:18being out of
36:19an actual fight
36:20for two years,
36:21too,
36:21is different
36:22than spar.
36:23You can spar
36:23all you want,
36:24right,
36:24Abner?
36:25But being in a fight
36:26is another story.
36:27And this,
36:27look,
36:28this is exhaustive.
36:29And,
36:30you know,
36:30he hasn't done it
36:31in two years.
36:32So this might
36:33be a reason
36:33why he has
36:34slowed down
36:34this round
36:35in particular.
36:37Yeah,
36:37great point,
36:37Joe.
36:38Really good point
36:39there.
36:39Again,
36:40the game,
36:40Maestro,
36:41who has been
36:42throwing a lot
36:43of keeping
36:43is Sione's business.
36:45Dan Yunus
36:46averaging over
36:4760 punches
36:48a round
36:48after a
36:49final 10 seconds
36:51before the
36:52tenth round.
36:53Robert Hoyle
36:54having an easy night
36:56thanks to these
36:57two warriors
36:58who,
36:58well,
36:58now forced
36:59to crank
36:59them apart
37:00but hasn't
37:00had to do
37:01much in terms
37:01of that
37:02because they
37:02keep throwing
37:03punches at
37:03each other.
37:08Yeah,
37:08thank you.
37:11I know you're
37:12doing good.
37:13You don't throw
37:14punch?
37:15Don't follow him.
37:16Okay,
37:17he's going to go
37:18way too.
37:18He comes
37:19very close.
37:20Yeah,
37:20that's why
37:21he's older.
37:22Right?
37:28He needs to finish
37:29the wrong spot.
37:32He's going to follow
37:33him with his team.
37:34He's going to follow
37:34him with his team.
37:35He's the champ.
37:36He's the champ.
37:37He's the champ.
37:39Don't let him steal
37:40the round, Imantus.
37:41All right?
37:42Don't let him steal
37:42the round.
37:44All right,
37:44let's go.
37:44Let's go.
37:49Let's go.
37:53Imantus Dan Yunus
37:54has not scored a
37:55KO beyond round
37:56nine for Maestro
37:57all five of his
37:58knockouts came
37:59within the first
38:00four rounds.
38:00We begin round
38:02at number 10,
38:03scheduled for 12,
38:04in the welterweight
38:05division.
38:06And it is
38:07Imantus Dan Yunus
38:09in the military
38:09green trunk colors
38:10with Gabriel Maestro
38:11in the green,
38:12white,
38:13and red.
38:14Lithuania
38:14versus Venezuela.
38:17International
38:18incident to kick
38:19off this paper
38:20decision.
38:25Let's go.
38:26Stop.
38:26last round
38:28in this round
38:28a lot more
38:29from Maestro.
38:31I mean,
38:32this guy that
38:32in his last party
38:33fought a 22-year-old
38:35in Trayvon Marshall.
38:37So, he does what
38:37it's like to be here.
38:38That was a huge upset.
38:39In fact,
38:39he's coming off
38:40back-to-back upset wins.
38:41The two-division champion
38:43Devin Alexander
38:44made him quit
38:44on the stool
38:45after three rounds.
38:46And then Trayvon Marshall,
38:47a highly-touted
38:48American prospect,
38:49he destroyed him
38:50with his punches.
38:50He did,
38:51he did,
38:51with the overhand bride.
38:52So, again,
38:53he's been there
38:54with young guys
38:54and now he's
38:55in there
38:56with a veteran
38:56like Estenione.
38:57He's game.
38:59He hopes to one day
39:00say,
39:00just like the game
39:01and 50 Cent,
39:02hate it or love it,
39:03the underdog's on to it.
39:04He's gonna have to do
39:31something really drastic
39:32like that right hand
39:33right there
39:34at the end
39:35of the combo
39:35was nice
39:36and hit Stanyones,
39:38but he needs a knockout
39:39to win this fight.
39:41I think he is looking
39:43for it.
39:43Does he have the power?
39:44I think he has the power
39:45as well.
39:46So, again,
39:47anything can happen
39:48in boxing
39:48and he knows that.
39:50Well, yeah.
39:50So, I mean,
39:51this may be good.
39:53The next couple rounds
39:53may be a real shootout,
39:55you know?
39:57One thing's for sure,
39:58he's not giving up
39:59and he's trying.
40:00He's definitely trying.
40:01Final minute of the 10th round.
40:09Maestri backpedaling
40:10into the corner.
40:11Stanyones,
40:12high guard.
40:14Hall of Famer,
40:17Larry Hazard,
40:18scorecard,
40:18has Stanyones up,
40:21but gave Maestri,
40:22he gave Maestri the last round,
40:24and we agree with that,
40:25right, guys?
40:25Yes.
40:25Considering what was happening,
40:27whether it's,
40:28not necessarily a roundup,
40:30but again,
40:30for Stanyones,
40:31who has been throwing so many,
40:32they both have,
40:33I mean,
40:33over 600 punches each
40:35have been delivered.
40:40I don't know about this round,
40:42it was a Maestri round,
40:43I think.
40:45So it's round.
40:46Maestri's corner is very,
40:48uh, positive right now.
40:49They're very excited,
40:50and they're very encouraging
40:51right now.
40:52They like what they're seeing
40:53from Maestri,
40:53but it's getting late in the game.
40:55It's all about the four.
41:06May the fourth be with you.
41:08Hey, can I tell you,
41:08I haven't seen one Star Wars movie.
41:10Here we go.
41:12Round 11,
41:13the penultimate round.
41:15Oh, man.
41:17Only you can do that.
41:18I love it, man.
41:18Thank you, brother.
41:21Got earned my money somehow,
41:22my man.
41:24All right,
41:24speaking of earning their money,
41:25both Daniel and Maestri
41:27are doing just that
41:28in this place.
41:29Yeah, definitely, Maestri.
41:30The guy's been eating
41:31shots like that,
41:32and to still be in this round,
41:34definitely earning his money.
41:36They are going at it, Joe.
41:38I mean,
41:38forget, you know,
41:40the layoffs
41:40and everything else,
41:41they're continuing
41:42to throw leather hard.
41:45Maestri obviously
41:47won for the night scout.
41:49Not tonight.
41:51Stop!
41:52You can tell,
41:52but he's holding on right now,
41:54which is not a good sign.
41:55I mean,
41:55he's, look,
41:55he's got five minutes left
41:57in this fight
41:59to win it, Maestri.
42:01He's got a close and leather,
42:02and he's not going to do it
42:03by backing up.
42:04He's going to have to
42:05sit in the pocket right here
42:07and pull something hard
42:08and hurt Stanionis,
42:10or he's going to lose the decision.
42:12There's a right hand
42:14by Maestri.
42:15He's throwing more punches
42:17than Stanionis,
42:18but lands a lot less.
42:20Stanionis connecting
42:21on a 42% clip,
42:2345% power shots
42:24compared to Maestri's
42:2625% total punches.
42:28Only 29%
42:30of his power punches
42:31are landing.
42:32Yeah, Maestri also said
42:34that he was trying to,
42:35going to try to open up
42:36the guard up by Stanionis
42:38with feints,
42:38with jabs,
42:39but we didn't see that tonight.
42:41No, we didn't.
42:42He's trying to do
42:43something in there,
42:44but...
42:44Everybody's going to plan
42:45until they get punched
42:46in the mouth,
42:47Mr. Mike Tyson.
42:48And then with the jabs
42:49that did it for Stanionis.
42:53Maestri still came,
42:54still throwing,
42:55beautiful left.
43:04They're really egging Maestri
43:05on from the corner.
43:06It's Maestri and the rest
43:07of the crew in the corner.
43:08They know what they need.
43:10We've talked about it already,
43:11and they don't like the fact
43:13that he's even holding,
43:13like, right there.
43:14You're taking time away
43:16that you could be
43:16debilitating your opponent.
43:18He's not doing it.
43:19He's holding,
43:20and then sporadic punching,
43:22and it's not going to win
43:22in the fight.
43:23They know it.
43:24The jabs.
43:25Another headline
43:26for Imanis Stanionis,
43:28who is connecting on 39%.
43:31He's landed 140 jabs
43:34in this fight, Adam.
43:35Can we say he's been winning
43:36this fight with the jab?
43:38Yes, he has.
43:39And obviously,
43:40a lot of them.
43:41Man, what a powerful jab.
43:42What a great jab, Mike.
43:43And the right upper pot
43:52left hook by Stanionis.
43:54Haven't seen that
43:54combination of all night.
43:58Double jab.
43:59So he's just working
44:00behind the jab,
44:01chewing up the clock,
44:02continuing to chip away
44:04at Gabriel Maestri.
44:06The final three minutes
44:08are upon us.
44:11Hey, Adam,
44:11do you love jabs?
44:12Not getting hit with the jabs,
44:15but I love what I'm seeing
44:17today with this jab
44:18from Stanionis.
44:21Beautiful jab there.
44:22Feel-out jab.
44:23Power jab.
44:26Another jab.
44:27Again,
44:28they're all power jabs
44:30from Stanionis.
44:31And for Maestri
44:32to be taking these,
44:33I mean, again,
44:34great chin.
44:35Yeah, no me lo tire mucho.
44:36Cambiáselo con gancho.
44:38En este gancho y open.
44:40Se puede o no se puede.
44:41Vamos, vamos.
44:43Solo puedo con el cristo
44:44que me fortalece.
44:46OK?
44:47Límpela, límpela.
44:48Vamos, vamos, vamos.
44:49Vamos, vamos, vamos.
44:50Vamos, vamos, vamos.
44:51Vamos, vamos.
44:51Vamos, vamos.
44:51Vamos.
44:52Vamos.
44:52Vamos.
44:53Vamos.
44:53Vamos.
44:54After a two-year hiatus
45:10for Imontes Stanionis,
45:11we begin round 12,
45:13and so far tonight,
45:14he has a career high
45:16in terms of punches landed
45:18with 297 and counting.
45:21He has a career high.
45:23Punch is thrown.
45:25709 and counting.
45:27Needless to say,
45:30string rust
45:30and wear non-entity.
45:38Maestri is going to try
45:39to look for a miracle
45:40here in this last round.
45:42Well, that's it.
45:43It's his last chance,
45:44and, you know,
45:46you've got to sustain
45:46an attack for three minutes.
45:48And unfortunately for him,
45:49it could be his last chance,
45:51period, at the age of 37.
45:52Despite the fact
45:53that this is just
45:54his eighth professional fight,
45:55he was put on the fast track
45:56to Pro at 33
45:57after an extensive amateur career
45:59in his native Venezuela
46:00two-time Olympian.
46:01But he knows
46:02that this, you know,
46:03it's do or die.
46:04What have you done for me lately?
46:05And in tonight against Stanionis,
46:07he has two minutes.
46:08Will it be the fastest?
46:09You make the best point.
46:13He's 37 years old.
46:14Where do you go from here?
46:17Stop! Stop!
46:18Let's go.
46:20At that age,
46:22no, I was going to say,
46:23at that age,
46:24you go back to Jordan.
46:25Yeah, yeah, me too.
46:26Sorry about that, Joe.
46:28But, yeah, I mean,
46:28at 37,
46:29I mean, where do you go from there?
46:30I mean, just wait for,
46:32or hope for an opportunity
46:33like this one?
46:34That's going to be hard.
46:35Well, the good thing is,
46:36is that he performed well last year.
46:39He didn't win all,
46:40you know,
46:40as many rounds as he would like to.
46:42He didn't hurt Stanionis.
46:45But he put on a good show.
46:48He actually is a very good fighter.
46:50It's unfortunate that he's 37
46:52and maybe 27.
46:54And he's married with a son
46:55and a daughter.
46:57We'll be waiting for him.
47:00And again,
47:00there's still over a minute left,
47:02so you're saying there's a chance.
47:04We got a good point there, Joe.
47:07He's a good fight.
47:09Even though he's been losing,
47:10he opens the eyes for potential,
47:13you know,
47:13hey,
47:15let's show some love to my friend,
47:18shall we?
47:18Yeah.
47:19He has landed more punches
47:20against Daniel Jonas
47:21than any previous opponent.
47:23And it's also the most punches
47:25owned against Daniel Jonas
47:26who's down in the street.
47:27So,
47:27that's off to you, Mr. McClendon.
47:29Yeah, I agree.
47:30That's why I said it.
47:31It was a good performance,
47:33although not a winning one.
47:35But,
47:36look,
47:36he might be used by
47:38some up-and-comers
47:39and maybe pull another upset
47:41like he did.
47:42Exactly.
47:43Yeah, yeah.
47:43And he can't do that.
47:45So, yeah.
47:46Use him for an opponent
47:48to build him up
47:49and, hey,
47:49he's going to surprise him.
47:50Right.
47:51Two years on the sidelines
47:53wondering when he would ever
47:54be back in the ring again
47:56while Amantus Stagnonis
47:57from Lithuania
47:58is back
47:59and he is
48:01better than ever.
48:03A historic night
48:04for his career.
48:05He goes 12 rounds
48:06with Gabriel Maestri.
48:08And while we await
48:10the official decision,
48:12I know Gabriel Maestri
48:13is doing all he can
48:14to sell it,
48:15but Stagnonis
48:16was just too much tonight
48:18and as sharp as ever
48:20despite that long layoff.
48:22It's a testament
48:23to who he is
48:24as a professional fighter.
48:25It really is
48:26because that is
48:26no easy job
48:27to be out two years,
48:30be thrown under
48:31the lights
48:32of the big show here
48:33and then perform
48:36for 12 rounds
48:37like a machine
48:38is pretty darn amazing.
48:40Yeah, that was a great
48:41performance by Stagnonis
48:42and, again,
48:43piggybacking on that.
48:44I mean, the fact that
48:45he gave us
48:4612 great rounds.
48:49He would have preferred
48:50the knockout, obviously,
48:51but, again, Maestri,
48:52great chin,
48:53solid fighter,
48:54a great experience.
48:56So, again,
48:56good fight
48:57for both fighters
48:58with Stagnonis
48:58showing that he's ready
49:00for the big names.
49:02He wants the big names.
49:04And he should get
49:05the big names
49:06after this fight.
49:06Well, in fact,
49:07maybe there's been
49:09talked later tonight.
49:10We got Mario Barrios
49:11against Fabian Maidana.
49:13Stagnonis has mentioned
49:14maybe facing
49:15the winner of that fight
49:16because that's also
49:16in the welterweight division
49:17and for the next step up,
49:19not a bad idea.
49:21That would be
49:21one heck of a fight
49:22providing Barrios.
49:24And considering
49:24what's going on
49:25right now,
49:26we'll talk about
49:26all the big names,
49:27many of them moving
49:28up to 154.
49:29There's an opportunity
49:30here for someone
49:31to make a name
49:32for himself
49:33in the glamour division.
49:36And he was
49:37a glamorous fighter
49:38tonight.
49:38Gabriel Maestri,
49:40he should earn
49:41the respect
49:42of the crowd
49:43who have to
49:44appreciate his effort
49:46he did
49:47to Stagnonis
49:48when no other
49:48opponent's been able
49:49to do so.
49:50And there it is.
49:51Good sign of sportsmanship.
49:52Let's go
49:53to Jimmy
49:53Ledden Jr.
50:01Here the score totals.
50:03Steve Weisfeld scores
50:05about 117
50:07to 111.
50:08Don Trellis
50:10sees it
50:10118 to 110
50:12and Chris Megliore
50:13scores about
50:14119 to 109.
50:16All three
50:17in favor
50:18of the winner
50:19and still
50:21the undefeated
50:22WBA
50:24welterweight champion
50:25of the world
50:26Aymanta Stagnonis.
50:32You can hear
50:32the three million
50:33Lithuanians
50:34cheering from here.
50:36He is back.
50:37He remains undefeated.
50:39Aymanta Stagnonis
50:40is now 15-0
50:42and a man
50:45who really wants
50:46to make inroads
50:46in the welterweight division.
50:51So, well,
50:53here we go.
50:54This is pretty much
50:55what went on
50:56all night.
50:58Stagnonis.
50:59Stagnonis.
51:01Yeah, the right hand
51:03from Stagnonis
51:04just landing
51:04beautifully.
51:06There's a smile
51:07from Stagnonis
51:08that says it all.
51:08A smile that he's winning.
51:10A smile that he's back.
