Video Information: 12.03.25, Acharya Prashant meets his teacher Dr. Trilochan Shastri, IIIT-Bangalore

Context:

In this enlightening discussion, Acharya ji and Professor Tran Shastri explore the intricate relationship between religion, culture, and democracy in India. They emphasize that true religion, rooted in the essence of Hinduism (Shruti), is about liberation from suffering, while popular beliefs (Smriti) often lead to conflict and discrimination. The conversation highlights the need for an educated and self-aware populace to navigate the complexities of democracy, which is often undermined by fear and misinformation. Both speakers advocate for a revival of true spiritual values that align with constitutional principles, promoting equality, fraternity, and self-respect. They debate that the essence of democracy lies in recognizing our shared humanity and the importance of self-questioning to transcend our animal instincts.
