Most businesses rate just one in ten on their cyber security, largely because they see it as a grudge purchase rather than a value-adding asset.

That’s the conclusion of a group of experts brought together by Insider looking at the state of cyber risk.

00:00Hi I'm Kurt Jacobs the editor of Midlands Business Insider and I've just
00:14chaired a fascinating discussion about cyber security and how it affects your
00:18business. The experts here reckon that most businesses their defenses are at
00:23best one out of ten in terms of quality. We've looked at the growing threat from
00:29things like shadow IT, how AI is affecting security, do you really know what your
00:35staff are putting out into the internet. We've looked at how the war in Ukraine
00:40is going to affect the attacks on your business. Here are some of the thoughts of
00:45those taking part. My name is Ian Vickers I'm the CEO of MetCloud we provide
00:49sovereign cloud capability for defense and critical national infrastructure
00:53sectors. Today's event was fantastic it was really alive with debate and
00:59discussion about digital resilience and one of the things that we came out with
01:03is that all of this digital resilience can be put down on one page. I'm Guy Bunker
01:08I'm from Konami Software and the biggest takeaway that I got from this morning was
01:13really about AI and how AI has become the new shadow IT. People within
01:19organizations don't realize how much AI is being used and where it's being used and
01:24therefore the data which is being shared inadvertently with these large language
01:29models which creates a real risk to businesses today.
01:33I'm Stephen Mason from Mason Infotech. What I realized this morning is that people are on the
01:38same wavelength and some people either know about cyber security or they don't so
01:42what we're really looking forward to is to make sure people really do understand the
01:45risks and the threats and the simplistic steps they can take to secure their business.
01:49I'm Emic from Headpoint and the key thing that's really stuck in my mind today is that
01:54different sizes organizations need to do different things but in the age of war and
02:00the advancement of AI the time is really now to reevaluate your cyber strategy.
02:04I'm Dee from BGF and I head up cyber security for the firm. One of the key things that I think I've
02:09learned today from this session is how varied the risks are to various businesses out there and for
02:14some they're really unprepared and for others they're investing in improving
02:18cyber security but they need to do more.
