00:00So we're here with Samantha. Samantha, you're the manager here. So yeah, just want to introduce yourself, say a little bit of where we are.
00:07Hi, I'm Samantha and I'm the bar manager at the Rail Women's Arms on Southern Valley Railway Bridge North.
00:13Fantastic, so obviously Bridge North is a very pretty place. Of course, I've never been here before so it's obviously very pretty outside, lots of great views.
00:19What sort of like really, obviously the trains outside, what's unique about this one?
00:24Yeah, so what makes us unique is our location on the platform. So we've got Beer Garden out on the platform, lots of unique Railway Anna indoors, and yeah, just a general friendly local place.
00:37Yeah, so it's like your regular local, obviously it's not town centre, but it is pretty close to one of the main transport links isn't it?
00:43Absolutely.
00:44So what's the local, what's the locals like? Obviously you get a lot of traffic through here, what are the locals?
00:49Yeah, we've got a good regular local trade, you always find somebody you know in the pub, always a friendly place, somebody that you recognise.
00:57Absolutely, so what we've got on tap today is what we've got on tap today.
01:01So we generally stock a lot of our local beers, sort of from the local area. We always have a selection of around 8 beer veils on, and then we also make sure we've got a real cider on as well.
01:14Oh fantastic, what one out of here has been the most popular so far?
01:17So currently today it's a town crier, Baydon's very popular, and we also have a selection from Beugley which also goes down really well as well.
01:25Oh fantastic, and what's it like being the manager of the Railway?
01:29It's interesting, very interesting. But yeah, you learn a lot, a lot of wonderful stories, you learn about the history, so yeah it's very interesting.
01:38Yeah, so we're here with Chris, Chris obviously you're from Waterham, aren't you?
01:41Yeah, so yeah.
01:42You've come down here to get a pint, how often do you come down here?
01:46I've come down here quite a lot, over the last 10-15 years I've been travelling here maybe at least once a month.
01:53Well I only came down last week here, and I was sitting here last week.
01:56Did you?
01:57Ah, so you're like a verified regular then I suppose.
01:59Well yeah, I mean sometimes I have drive down here today, but I normally, last week I stopped at the Falcon, I stopped in places in Hightown, so I do stop overnight as well.
02:08It's a nice little break you see.
02:10Absolutely.
02:11And it's like being on holiday because you're pretty sure it's in Hightown, isn't it?
02:13It's just a lovely place isn't it?
02:14That's it yeah, so why are you here then, why have you come?
02:17This is one of my favourite pumps, I do like it because there are wires right, head side.
02:21Yeah.
02:22And it's great when the trains are running, there's people coming off the train, and you see the steaming
02:27and it's pulling.
02:28Yeah.
02:29You know, it's like it's got so much character, and it's a fantastic atmosphere, you're just sitting
02:34there and watching, people watching.
02:36It's quite a unique thing isn't it, because I can't imagine you get a lot of nice pubs
02:41like this on, actually on, you know, historic railway tracks, you know, you don't get that.
02:45I can't imagine you get quite a lot.
02:46You don't get that many.
02:47There's one in Cotswold called The Station.
02:49I actually worked on the train as well, because my job is I'm a magician, so I do magic tricks
02:57at weddings and corporate events, and I've worked on the train as well a few years ago,
03:03and I worked on the train as a Christmas when I was wandering up in there in the cages.
03:07So, yeah, that's what I do.
03:08I do classic magic, so.
03:09Oh, fantastic.
03:10What are you drinking then?
03:11What's that?
03:12That is Hobsons.
03:13Hobsons.
03:14Because they give you a little card if you drink the Hobsons, isn't it?
03:16If you have like 10 pints, you get one free.
03:18Oh, fantastic.
03:19I'm obviously not going to drink 10 pints today.
03:21Just to get a freaky wine.
03:22That would be some magic equipment.
03:23I wouldn't be able to do a lot of magic tricks.
03:24I don't drink that much.
03:25No, that's fantastic.
03:26Yeah, but what are your favourites then?
03:27One, definitely one of my favourite pubs.
03:28This pub, the Black Boy in the Cartwire.
03:29I'm going there.
03:30I don't like one as well.
03:31Yeah, it's got some, there's so many pubs in Brisbane North.
03:32It's got a lot to offer pub-wise.
03:33Plus, I mean, a lot of the staff members are lovely as well.
03:36The staff are very nice as well.
03:38What more could you ask for from the?
03:39Well, it's comfortable.
03:40I like it when it's comfortable.
03:41I don't like it when it's too busy.
03:42Yeah, absolutely.
03:43In our bank holidays when all the children are around.
03:45Nothing only children, obviously, wouldn't they?
03:46It gets very busy.
03:47Well, it's lovely.
03:48Fantastic.
03:49Thank you very much.
03:50Yeah, thank you very much.
03:51Yeah, thank you very much.
03:52Yeah, thank you very much.
03:53Yeah, thank you very much.
03:54Yeah, so we're just going to take a break.
03:55Yeah.
03:56Yeah.
03:57Yeah.
03:58Yeah.
03:59Yeah.
04:00Yeah.
04:01Yeah.
04:02Yeah.
04:03Yeah.
04:04Yeah.
04:05Yeah.
04:06Yeah.
04:07Yeah.
04:08So, obviously, when did this open?
04:09So, the Railwoman's Arms opened in 1861, a year before the railway opened itself.
04:15Absolutely.
04:16So, what did it originally, it opened originally as a team?
04:18Indeed, it opened as a licensed professional ring.
04:21Yeah, fantastic.
04:22I guess that would have been servicing the, later on, the people who were...
04:25Yeah, servicing the local people of the town, yeah, and the railway workers themselves,
04:29yeah.
04:30Yeah, that's fantastic then.
04:31So, yeah, absolutely lovely place.
04:32Definitely come down right.
04:33Excellent, yeah.
04:34Absolutely, yeah.
04:35No, that's brilliant.
04:36Yeah, inside of the public world there's a Terence Cuneo painting.
04:40Apparently, according to local legend, there's a hidden mouse, or a rat-sized mouse in every
04:46single one of them.
04:47We're not going to spoil the fun.
04:48But nothing is very early, though.
04:49Nothing is very early ones, we should be saying.
04:51But we're not going to spoil the fun.
04:53I've found it.
04:54Took me a good while, probably longer than what I should have done.
04:57But yeah, quite a fun little activity when you're in here watching the trains and having
05:01a little drink as well.
05:02And yeah.
05:03Very good.
05:04Anything is awesome.
05:05Just a little bit more fun.
05:06You know, likelimited he's a little person that might be in here and you can another
05:11film.
05:12I'm going to tag the third of the couple of things just to watch the most and you
05:15meet on your true horse in the boat when you get caught the right, and then you'll
05:25get along the route.
05:27There's a network from our urban Universalisation.
