Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs in IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on April 8. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. On a good pitch, Punjab Kings were off to a mixed start. While wickets tumbled for them at one end, Priyansh Arya (103) kept attacking from the other. Mukesh Choudhary (1/21) and Khaleel Ahmed (2/45) dismissed Prabhsimran Singh (0) and Shreyas Iyer (9) respectively before they could get dangerous. Ravichandran Ashwin (2/48) removed Nehal Wadhera (9) and Glenn Maxwell (1) while Khaleel doubled it down with Marcus Stoinis' (4) wicket. At 83/5, it seemed like the game was going towards the Super Kings but some poor fielding instilled new hope in the batters and Priyansh Arya with Shashank Singh (52*) stitched a huge partnership of 71 runs. After Priyansh Arya got out following his century, Marco Jansen (34*) joined Shashank Singh and the duo gave Punjab Kings a strong finish taking them to 219/6. Chasing 220, Chennai Super Kings got a steady start from openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra (36). But Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad (1) perished following the powerplay and the Chennai Super Kings lost momentum. Shivam Dube (42) joined Devon Conway (69) and the duo attempted to take Chennai Super Kings close. And despite MS Dhoni (27)'s cameo at the end, it was not enough for Chennai Super Kings to get over the line. This was Punjab Kings' third victory of IPL 2025 and a fourth loss for Chennai Super Kings.
