Transcript
00:00The clip from Kerala's Kochi claims that the employees were punished for not meeting targets.
00:10One video showed a man with a leash around his neck crawling on his knees.
00:14Another showed employees being forced to undress as punishment.
00:17The video sparked outrage online, described as inhuman treatment at a private marketing
00:22firm.
00:23But here's what really happened.
00:24As the clip circulated widely, authorities swung into action.
00:28And then came the twist.
00:30Police said the videos were shot by a former manager who had issues with the company's
00:33owner.
00:34He allegedly filmed the scenes using new trainees, calling it part of training.
00:38The video of the man on a leash was reportedly filmed four months ago and the manager involved
00:42had since left the company.
00:44Police called the video deceptive and recorded statements from employees who blamed the ex-manager
00:49for staging the acts.
00:50The man seen crawling in the viral video denied any workplace abuse, stating that he is still
00:54employed at the firm and that the visuals were taken months ago without his consent
00:58by a former manager who was later asked to leave.
01:01He also added that the ex-manager is now misusing the footage to defame the company owner.
01:13In India, workplace harassment is addressed through several key laws.
01:16The Industrial Disputes Act of 1947 protects employees from unfair treatment and allows
01:21complaints of wrongful dismissal or harassment.
01:24The IPC criminalizes physical or verbal harassment under sections like 354A and 509.
01:30The Posh Act 2013 mandates companies with 10 plus employees to form an internal complaints
01:35committee for handling sexual harassment cases.
01:38These laws aim to safeguard employee dignity and promote accountability in the workplace.
01:43However, in this Kochi case, the controversy reached the State Human Rights Commission,
01:48which registered a case based on a complaint filed by High Court lawyer Kulathur Jai Singh.
01:53The Kerala State Youth Commission also took suo moto action, demanding a report from the
01:57District Police Chief.
