00:30and two beavers there eating on the side of the bank.
00:33Some of them had a huge.
00:34I bet you there'd be another one over there.
00:39Fuck them.
00:40Stealing it gold.
00:47Gold is sitting at a new all-time high,
00:50over $2,600 an ounce.
00:53Whoa.
00:54And this increase in price is showing
00:56no signs of slowing down.
00:58Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:05Gold prices have been soaring all summer long,
01:08and Tony Beets is determined to cash in and smash
01:13his 5,000-ounce gold.
01:28After an explosive three-plant start to the season,
01:32Tony's now down to just one, and he is 840 ounces short
01:38of his 5,000-ounce target.
01:42It's getting later in the season.
01:44The trees are turning, but we should still
01:46have time to get some more gold out of the ground.
01:49I'm going to try to get the dredge going.
01:51As long as you have some gold trickling in,
01:54you're always OK.
01:56With his only thawed pay at Indian River underwater,
02:00Tony's turning to his 85-year-old dredge
02:03to bank more gold.
02:06Digging pay with 72 buckets, it's low-cost two-man crew
02:11sluice using an onboard trommel that can deliver
02:1480 ounces of gold a week.
02:18I'm the only guy here that runs a dredge.
02:21So yeah, I think it's kind of special.
02:24Anybody home?
02:26What the fuck are you hiding in the corner for?
02:28I was hoping you wouldn't find me.
02:30Why not?
02:32Doctor, coming on.
02:34Last season, Tony called good friend Greg Mason
02:38to get his prized behemoth up and running for the first time
02:42in five years.
02:45I'm so excited I could just piss my pants.
02:49When Greg had to leave early, Tony
02:53called upon the only other person
02:55he trusts to operate the dredge.
02:58Tony has never run the dredge.
02:59I don't think he could, honestly.
03:02With Kevin running his own claim and Greg unavailable until now,
03:07the dredge has sat idle for nearly a year.
03:11I mean, you know, the troubles you have with frozen ground,
03:13you have a stress that has to start out.
03:16And the prize is right, so let's chew some up,
03:18see what you can get.
03:19And hopefully, we can turn that dinosaur
03:22into a gold-making machine.
03:24If you fuck up, we don't have a boat here,
03:26so I hope you can swim.
03:27Oh, my god.
03:28What?
03:29Yeah.
03:31To get the dredge running, Greg first
03:34needs to move it into position using two winches on the deck
03:38that are anchored to dozers on the shore.
03:41I want to get off the boat before it
03:43starts floating away.
03:48Yes, yes.
03:49Captain, say you have to go down with the fucking thing.
03:53Ooh, hoo, hoo, hoo.
03:56OK.
03:58They let it happen, Captain.
04:01Coming up on my winch lines.
04:07So far, so good.
04:09Like coming your way at all, Tony?
04:11If you pull on the bucket, lad, you should scoot right
04:13straight ahead.
04:14Piece of cake.
04:17Seems to be working.
04:18Well, yeah.
04:19That'd be a fucking organ.
04:23OK, I'm going to come up on the port.
04:35It's coming.
04:50I'm stuck on something, Tony.
04:53Well, I know.
04:54That's why I want you to pull on this one a bit.
04:56Water's not deep enough.
04:58Slow the fucking boat.
05:00It's not that big of a deal.
05:02Hey, Mike D, Gabby, can you rip around, please?
05:12Tony and Greg are trying to maneuver
05:15the 350-ton dredge 300 feet closer
05:19to the south edge of its pond, where his only thawed
05:23pay sits underwater.
05:27But it's beached on raised bedrock,
05:30and the onboard winch motors are not
05:32powerful enough to pull it free.
05:35Now, Tony will use the two D7 anchor
05:39dozers attached to the dredge's cables
05:42to pull it over the bedrock, and then guide it
05:45into position where the gold is.
05:52Everybody seems to be clear, yes.
05:55Good.
05:55OK, because then I got to drive this ahead.
06:05Make little tuck, little tuck.
06:12Keep her going a bit.
06:18OK, could you pull on both cables, Greg?
06:20Pull that thing out of the dirt.
06:28Yeah, I realize that.
06:29There ain't a fucking thing I can do.
06:32I'm stuck.
06:42I can give it a pull, too.
06:47Tony is tugging us along right now.
06:50Mike is pulling from the other side.
06:53But Tony's doing most of the work.
06:59Yeah, man, that's working.
07:06It's coming.
07:08Bingo.
07:10There you go, you're fucking floating, you know that?
07:13Yeah, we're whistling now, Tony.
07:20Coming on with the trommel.
07:21He's going to start it up.
07:26Try the bucket ladder.
07:27OK.
07:31First scoop of dirt, first scoop of dirt.
07:33Ready to go.
07:36She's dredging.
07:38Tony is sluicing at Indian River for the first time
07:42in six weeks.
07:44Any yellow chumps, we'll take them off.
07:47OK, we'll do.
07:49Good.
07:51It's good to have her back up and running.
07:53So excited I could just piss my pants, you know?
07:57He's got her running, so now them boys can play in there.
08:01And then we'll see if they're going to make some money.
08:03And ho, ho, ho, off dredging we go.
08:08We're coming down to the end here, we don't have much time.
08:10But we're going to just hit it with everything we got.
08:13The weather's changing, it's getting cold.
08:15It's time we get sluicing.
08:17100 miles east, Rick Ness is only days away
08:21from seeing if his biggest gamble ever will pay off.
08:26Rick's crew have spent the last two weeks
08:29on the road to the Indian River.
08:30And they're ready to go.
08:32We're going to do it.
08:33We're going to do it.
08:33We're going to do it.
08:34We're going to do it.
08:35We're going to do it.
08:36We're going to do it.
08:37Rick's crew have spent five weeks and a million dollars
08:40chasing a pay streak from Raleigh
08:42Valley to Vegas Valley.
08:45After weeks of stripping, we're
08:47finally done with overburden, you know?
08:49Well over 100 feet of that shit, finally on the pay,
08:51and it feels really good.
08:54With a huge stockpile of Vegas Valley pay ready to go,
08:58Rick just needs to move his monster red plant
09:02to the new cut and start washing dirt
09:05by the end of the week to see if he's hit the jackpot.
09:09I haven't moved monster red in four years.
09:11Some of the guys on my team have never moved the wash plant.
09:13To make it safer and easier on us,
09:15we're going to completely disassemble this thing.
09:20Well, fuck, fuck, fuck.
09:24Rick has tasked foreman Buzz Lago with taking
09:28apart monster red.
09:30It's as risky as it can get.
09:33Tearing apart a $500,000 plant.
09:37While the rest of the crew prepares
09:39the road into Vegas Valley.
09:41Hey, Kyle, you think this shit's going to pack in decent?
09:44Yeah, I think it'll be fine.
09:47We spent quite a bit of time in that cut,
09:50not sluicing at all, so we only have a few weeks left.
09:54If we don't produce anything, yeah, that gold bonus
09:56might be out the window.
09:58That's why we named this Vegas Valley.
10:00Everything's a big gamble over here.
10:03You know, this should be the last piece that we need
10:05to make this road to the pad.
10:08That's all I'm hoping for.
10:10Watch that big, red, fucking beast come down that hill.
10:14Let's put it to work.
10:21You guys ready?
10:22Today's where we're moving the plant.
10:23I'm excited.
10:24It means we're that much closer to gold.
10:26So what do you want to do?
10:27Tower, get the shaker deck unhooked,
10:29set it on the trailer, strap it down, get her out.
10:31Yeah, you guys got the pad ready to go,
10:32so why not?
10:33Yeah.
10:34Let's get the move.
10:37There's a fair amount of work to do here,
10:39but we really don't have a lot of experience moving it,
10:40so it's exciting.
10:42Oh, don't fall.
10:44Easy.
10:45At the same time, it's a little scary.
10:46We can't afford to break anything on it.
10:49Strap her down.
10:51All the money is in that shaker box when we pull it off,
10:54so we drop that or damage that, we're pretty much fucked.
10:58Using his most powerful excavator, the 750,
11:02Rick needs to move the heart of his wash plant,
11:06the 10-ton shaker deck.
11:10Now we're going to pull the shaker deck
11:11off the frame of the plant.
11:13That's the heaviest point of it, and it's all the way at the top.
11:15This plant's 26 feet tall.
11:17When we try to move it, it's very top heavy.
11:20This is going to be a heavy lift.
11:22Straight up.
11:26Easy, easy.
11:28Just going to lift it straight up,
11:30swing it over the side.
11:32Hopefully it'll land on the trailer in one piece.
11:38Oh, shit.
11:42Oh, shit.
11:47Kind of going towards you.
11:50There you go.
11:53Why is it lifting straight?
11:54Is there anything catching?
11:57No, it doesn't look like it.
12:01What the fuck?
12:04We're going to bend that bar.
12:17Why is it lifting straight?
12:19Is there anything catching?
12:21No, it doesn't look like it.
12:23Pretty important piece here.
12:24It would completely put an end to our season
12:26if I couldn't see it.
12:30What the fuck?
12:36For fuck's sake.
12:38Rick Ness is struggling to move wash plant Monster Red
12:42to Vegas Valley and get sluicing by the end of the week.
12:48I'm maxed out.
12:50She's a heavy beast.
12:52It's going to be fine.
12:53Positive energy.
12:54Keep positive energy.
12:55That's right.
12:58Get this plant moving.
13:01You're back a little bit still.
13:03Forward.
13:10It's almost out.
13:12There you go.
13:16Just swing it.
13:19She's flying perfect now.
13:20And that is what the bottom of the shaker deck looks like.
13:26I think we're good.
13:27Let's creep her down.
13:30She's down.
13:31Yeah.
13:33That was a little stressful.
13:35But it's on the trailer now.
13:36We definitely got that trailer maxed out.
13:39Hopefully this gets down the road to where it's got to go.
13:43Well, Kyle, if you want to run that loader behind him,
13:46just ride with him.
13:47And if it gets away from him, just slow him down.
13:49And then we'll just get her down there and get her unloaded.
13:52Sound good?
13:53Great.
13:55Let's go.
14:04To keep costs down, Rick's crew are
14:07using their trucks and trailers to convoy
14:09the plant and its parts.
14:13Buzz uses his pickup to pull the 10-ton shaker
14:16deck from Raleigh Valley, a mile and a half
14:20along a treacherous and winding mine road.
14:23Their biggest challenge will be a 300-foot mud track
14:27descent down a 35-degree gradient
14:31where the overloaded trailer could easily careen out
14:34of control, ending Rick's season.
14:39To steady the half-a-million-dollar cargo.
14:43Better to be safe than sorry.
14:45Kyle will be in a loader behind, cabled to the trailer,
14:49acting as a safety brake for the final decline
14:53into Vegas Valley.
14:57This is the main heartbeat of the plant right here.
15:00This is what I'm most nervous about, getting down here
15:02and getting down here in one piece.
15:07This is the real test.
15:10This is really steep, so.
15:13Kyle, just control his speed, would you?
15:15Yep, will do.
15:20It's halfway down the downhill part.
15:22Seems to be going good.
15:23He's holding it back.
15:26These brakes are handling it no problem,
15:28so that's a good sign.
15:31Yeah, I got a good touch here on him, so.
15:34Perfect, thank you, Kyle.
15:38Yeah, I think we're good there.
15:41Nice job, guys.
15:43Nice and smooth.
15:48We're here.
15:50But no, that went good.
15:51Easy, everything held up real well.
15:53Not a problem.
15:55Good job, guys.
15:56Yeah, no problem.
15:58Most expensive part of the plant made it here in one piece.
16:01Very excited about that.
16:02We're going to go get the rest of it.
16:03Then we just got to get it back together
16:04without wrecking anything, and we're in business.
16:21Hey, Brendan, Brendan.
16:23I'm about ready to fire up the plant.
16:26OK, perfect, sounds good.
16:28Let's get stuff fired up and ready to roll.
16:34Rookie mine boss Kevin Beetz has spent five months
16:38getting 470 ounces of gold.
16:42Now, with only four weeks left, he
16:45needs to double it to have any chance of another season.
16:49It's just been a nightmare with downtime this year.
16:52What we need next is some really, really good gold
16:55to catch back up.
16:58To bring in as much gold as possible,
17:01Kevin's tasked foreman Brennan Ruo with digging out pay dirt,
17:06while the rest of the crew feeds the plant 24-7.
17:12Kev did a pan for us, and it looked really good, actually.
17:14So if I'm just working my ass off here at the truck,
17:17and keep that stockpile as big as we can down at the plant
17:20so night shift can run smoothly.
17:24And here's night shift.
17:26To make sure the wash plant runs non-stop,
17:30Kevin's bringing in a hired gun to help operator Hunter Canning.
17:35Bloody hell, how's my wife going to believe I'm a bank manager
17:37and white horse if I go home dirty like this?
17:40LAUGHTER
17:41Rick Johnson arrives with more than a dozen years
17:45mining experience.
17:47How's it going?
17:48All right.
17:49Ready for your first night on Knives, Rick?
17:51Yeah, yeah.
17:52You ready, buddy?
17:53No problem.
17:54I'm sure you guys got it figured, but yeah, just keep it running.
17:56Well, don't shut down, because if we're going to hit
17:581,000 ounces, we've got to really run pretty much non-stop.
18:01You got it.
18:02OK, so have a good night.
18:03Yeah.
18:04I'll see you in the morning.
18:05I'll keep you on your toes.
18:06Right on.
18:07It's starting to be a little bit frantic
18:09with how our tailings are.
18:11We really do need a second operator
18:13to take the tailings away.
18:15One of the things that I have definitely gotten from Tony
18:18is we really don't let anyone's anything stop us.
18:22You just got to keep running the dirt through.
18:25It looks like we've got a pretty healthy pay pile
18:27stocked up down there for night shifts,
18:29so I'm just going to finish up and I'll see you in the morning.
18:32I'll see you in the morning.
18:35It looks like we've got a pretty healthy pay pile
18:37stocked up down there for night shifts,
18:39so I'm just going to finish up and hit camp
18:41for some dinner and go to bed.
18:53Now sleep for the wicked until the gold gets loosed.
18:57Hunter keeps the plant fed with 24 loads of pay an hour,
19:03and loads it to clear tailings.
19:06So far so good.
19:08I definitely know the importance of not shutting down.
19:12Kevin put me on nights because he trusts me
19:15and I just want to prove to him that I can keep the plant running.
19:21We've got to make sure we get it all through the wash plant.
19:24In the belly of it is the gold that pays all the bills around here.
19:33Are you kidding me?
19:40I've got both sides spinning.
19:45Hunter, copy Hunter?
19:47Yeah, what's up?
19:49Yeah, I'm stuck.
19:51Basically both side wheels are spinning.
19:53Where are you staying?
19:55I'm staying in the back.
19:57I'm staying in the back.
19:59Where are you staying?
20:01Where are you stuck?
20:03By the tailings or where you're dumping?
20:05I'm stuck in the fines right now.
20:07All right, give me one second.
20:09It might be a tow job.
20:20If we spin too much more, I'm going to sink to a point
20:23where Hunter and I won't be able to get it out.
20:26So I'm just going to try to find something to tow it with.
20:29Oh boy, that's not something I wanted to happen tonight.
20:34If I can't get him out quick enough,
20:36I'm just going to have to leave him there
20:38and try to come back again
20:40because I can't let this hopper go dry.
20:42If I end up whitewashing,
20:44then we can potentially lose a lot of gold.
20:48He's going to load the hopper,
20:50and that will give us eight minutes.
20:52Time is money.
20:54Hunter stocks the hopper with enough pay dirt
20:57to feed Kevin's plant for eight minutes.
21:00If it runs out while she saves Rick's loader,
21:03water pressure in the sluices will increase,
21:06blasting gold out of the box.
21:09Right on, Hunter.
21:11We've got a cable in the crew truck.
21:13I'm going to bring it over.
21:15It's definitely a race against time.
21:17Rick's sinking in quicksand,
21:19and I have to get this hopper filled
21:21so I can go help him and tug him out.
21:27All right, man, I'm on my way.
21:29Get ready.
21:31Back, back.
21:33Stop.
21:35You got it all sorted out.
21:37You need help?
21:39We've got to hurry.
21:41Okay, we're hooked up.
21:43We'll let you put tension on.
21:50All right, she's tight.
21:52Okay, Hunter, let her rip.
21:57Oh, s**t.
22:03Whoa!
22:05S**t, it's stuck.
22:19I tried getting him out,
22:21but his tires just kept spinning.
22:23The loader, operated by Kevin,
22:25The loader, operated by Kevin Beat's
22:27new hire, Rick Johnson,
22:29is stuck in the fine tailings.
22:31Hey, Rick, are you ready to go again?
22:33I've got to go back to the hopper.
22:35I think we've got, like, one minute here.
22:37Hunter is racing
22:39to pull him free
22:41before the plant runs out of pay
22:43and blasts gold out of the sluice box.
22:47Yeah, hopefully we get her out this time.
22:49All right, she's good.
22:51Start backing up.
22:55Slowly, slowly.
23:02Keep it going, keep it going.
23:04Okay, let her rip.
23:12Are you out?
23:14Hell yeah.
23:18All right, take this off
23:20and get back to the hopper now.
23:22If this won't f**king come off...
23:24I'll take care of all that.
23:26Get back and feed that hopper.
23:28Don't get stuck again, man.
23:30We didn't have to shut down.
23:32We didn't whitewash.
23:34We got it under control.
23:49It's finally almost the end of our shift.
23:51How is everything, Rick?
23:54Making sure everything's cool for day shift.
23:58Now it's time to go home and have a drink.
24:00I hear you.
24:07Hey, guys.
24:09How'd it go?
24:11You know, just another day at the office.
24:15I got a little buried, started spinning.
24:17She was able to come over.
24:19I came to the rescue.
24:21Exactly.
24:23No, we didn't have to shut down for nothing.
24:25Oh, looks like we do.
24:45Rocks have clogged up the pre-wash.
24:47I'll go do that.
24:49Okay, thank you.
24:51It's time for Kevin to shut down the plant
24:53while Hunter digs it out.
24:58Not great at the end of the shift, that's for sure,
25:00but whatever needs to be done.
25:08I got this cleaned out.
25:10That's fired up.
25:12Sounds like Rick and Hunter had an eventful night,
25:14though it is good that they were able
25:16to deal with it on their own.
25:18So, yeah, I think a good first night,
25:20and here's to many more, I hope.
25:23Klondike Legend told us that it was a tough night
25:25for the team, and that they had to go out
25:27and find a way to get out of the rain.
25:29And that's what we're going to do.
25:31We're going to find out where they are,
25:33and if we can get them out of the rain.
25:35But we've got a lot of work to do.
25:37I'm gonna go in here and see if I can get this to work.
25:39Oh, we're in.
25:41Oh, that's a good one.
25:43Oh, that's a good one.
25:45Oh, we're in.
25:47We're in.
25:49Oh, we're in.
25:51Sundaig legend Tony Beetz is at Paradise Hill making sure youngest son Mike doesn't leave
25:58any gold behind in the super pit.
26:01I mean, look at all the gravel, there is a big box sitting down there.
26:09Great, right?
26:10I mean, the gold price is phenomenal, you got a great big hill full of that s***, talk
26:18about living a dream, then I think I'm pretty much sitting right on top of it.
26:24Time for another day of dredging, it'll be nice to see what she produces.
26:2840 miles south, Tony's dredge should also be on the gold.
26:36Something's wrong here.
26:39Why is it leaning so much?
26:43Oh crap, oh geez, she's sunk.
26:57Tony ain't going to be happy, let's put it that way.
27:00It has to be one of the pontoons leaking or something.
27:05It was banging on some bedrock when we pulled it.
27:16Overnight one of the dredge's pontoons has filled with water, causing it to sink on one
27:22side.
27:25So water and electricity don't mix.
27:28The other side goes under, there's a lot more stuff that could be damaged, the generator,
27:33other pumps, stuff like that.
27:35I'm looking to see if it's gotten to this side yet, it hasn't so far.
27:42If the dredge takes on more water, it will fry the generator and put Tony's only running
27:48Indian River plant out of action for the rest of the season.
27:53Michael, do you copy?
27:55Go ahead Greg.
27:57I think you need to come down here, the dredge is sinking.
28:00Oh **** okay, I'll be over there quick.
28:09Holy ****.
28:12She sunk.
28:13I came to work today, found it on its side.
28:17That is not good.
28:18No.
28:19This is not good at all, I see it's still dropping, still sinking, we gotta handle real
28:25quick right now.
28:27I'm gonna need some tools, some equipment and pumps.
28:32The 350-ton dredge floats on two separate 70-foot-long pontoons.
28:40A leak somewhere in the right pontoon has allowed water to flood in, listing the dredge
28:47to one side.
28:50To right it, Greg and Mike will install two pumps on the bank to remove water from the
28:55dredge pond, allowing access to the pontoon's deck hatch.
29:01Then use a smaller pump internally to drain it of water.
29:07Once the pontoon is empty, locate and repair the damage.
29:12Then pump water back into the pond and re-float the dredge to get back on Indian River gold.
29:21You can drop that one, this is the biggest pump we have, it's big and ugly but it will
29:27move a lot of water.
29:28If it sinks anymore, then we're really ****ed.
29:32Ruby, do you copy, Ruby?
29:34Yeah, go ahead.
29:35Jump in the loader for me and move this pump to the dredge, please.
29:42It's so late in our season right now, we just don't have time to waste.
29:51That is perfect.
29:53We got the pump into place, now we just gotta hook up the suction hose.
30:00Yeah, you're good there.
30:07We got this pump here, we use it to feed the plants, but since the plants are down, we
30:12gotta steal it.
30:15Right now the dredge was our only moneymaker, so getting an extra pump in will make a difference
30:20between being down for a day or being down for three days.
30:24So will you try bringing it in with this thing?
30:27I think so.
30:28Yeah, okay.
30:37The water has already dropped a foot, so hopefully by the morning we'll have this pump low enough
30:42for us to save the dredge.
30:50Since Tony's not here, I gotta give him a phone call.
30:55He might not be happy with the news, but we'll do our best to save this thing.
31:12Hey, Tony.
31:13What do you want?
31:14Hey, we got a problem with the dredge.
31:16It's sinking.
31:17What the f*** happened?
31:18One side is underwater.
31:19Nobody paid attention.
31:33It never fails.
31:34You go somewhere, and that's the time to sink the f*** dredge.
31:40Tony beats dredge has been dead in the water for 24 hours.
31:45We got the pumps going, left them run all night.
31:49The water's down low enough so we can start pumping out the pontoons.
31:55Dredge master Greg Mason is battling to get it back on the gold.
32:02It's just gonna be a little bit of cleaning up.
32:05So this is the problem, pontoon, the leak in.
32:09She's gotta be pumped out, get this thing floating again.
32:13You're looking good.
32:15The pontoon is drained.
32:22Let's see how the dredge is doing.
32:30Hey.
32:31Why didn't you do it?
32:32Got a leak.
32:33It's, uh, I think you kind of pulled it.
32:36I think I pulled it.
32:37I think I pulled it.
32:38I think I pulled it.
32:39I think I pulled it.
32:40I think I pulled it.
32:41I think I pulled it.
32:42I think you kind of pulled it on some bedrock.
32:44It was all my fault?
32:45That's it.
32:46So now you need a welder, huh?
32:48It would be nice.
32:49Okay, well, I'll crawl in.
32:50Let's go have a look, guys.
32:51See what the **** we can do.
32:52Let's go look.
33:03So we got water coming in here.
33:06This is an old boat, so you're gonna have a little bit of rust.
33:09You're gonna spring the odd leak.
33:10That's all.
33:11That's all.
33:12Let's do it.
33:13We got one over here, so we'll have to play with it.
33:18When Tony pulled the dredge off the raised bedrock,
33:22it pulled apart one of the rivets, locking the metal walls together.
33:28At the moment, the dredge is the only one running,
33:30so let's keep the thing afloat.
33:35You're gonna leave your boat.
33:36You gotta go **** fix it, so there's no difference here.
33:41Thing's done.
33:42Perfect.
33:43Good enough.
33:44Let's get out.
33:46Coming out?
33:47Yeah.
33:52It's a lot better than it was, I think,
33:54on the last rest of the season.
33:56Now that we know about it, we can keep an eye on it.
33:58There you go.
33:59Perfect.
34:00After two days of lost production,
34:03Greg refloats the dredge and fires back up.
34:07That was an easy fix, really.
34:09Not 100%, but it'll make do for the rest of the season.
34:13Should do about a half a mile a day, maybe.
34:16Aye?
34:18You're a funny guy.
34:19I know.
34:20Looking pretty damn good.
34:21Don't you think so?
34:22Yeah.
34:23Looks good.
34:24Well, I always did like to see the dredge run.
34:26It does a good job, so it's something unique.
34:31Back on the money, I guess.
34:34Slow and steady right now.
34:36Definitely a little tight right here.
34:38At Duncan Creek, the Ness crew are moving the last parts
34:42of wash plant Monster Red from Raleigh Valley
34:46to their new cut at Vegas Valley.
34:50It made it in one piece.
34:54It's a lot of work.
34:55It's a lot of work.
34:56It's a lot of work.
34:57It's a lot of work.
34:58It's a lot of work.
34:59It's a lot of work.
35:00It's a lot of work.
35:01It's a lot of work.
35:02It's a lot of work.
35:04If we continue to have nothing to come in,
35:06we all just spent our gold bonus on diesel fuel
35:09that went right out the exhaust.
35:11So now if we can pull this stand back around the corner
35:14so that it's in position.
35:16We want this to be perfect.
35:19Rick has tasked Buzz with getting the frame into position
35:23so they can rebuild the plant.
35:28Just cutting in here to make sure everything's going smooth.
35:34Already got the spot I told you I was supposed to be into.
35:54Yeah, it ain't going to work.
35:56Buddy, you didn't go far enough.
35:58What do you mean?
35:59Look at where those sluice boxes are going to come out.
36:01Look where that berm is.
36:02Look where that berm is.
36:03We have no spot for the course.
36:06Imagine it is.
36:07What do you mean, far enough?
36:08It's got to go that way over 15, 20 feet.
36:15Buzz has put Monster Red in the wrong place.
36:20Rick doesn't think there's enough room for the course tailings
36:23to pile up.
36:25I told him to the edge of that right there.
36:28Two weeks ago...
36:35Rick and his foreman's relationship hit rock bottom.
36:40Why the does he not know that he can't sleep on the job?
36:44Hey, Buzz!
36:46You're not the senior operator.
36:48You're a guy on this crew.
36:49You're going to jump in where the you fit in
36:51or you're going to go home.
36:53Do it now before it gets too far.
36:55And tensions between the two remain.
36:58We've got to unhook this water line.
37:00Rick wants the plant moved back about 20 to 40 feet,
37:03so right now it's time for us to get to work.
37:09The plan might just change now that Rick is here.
37:12For good luck to him.
37:13Go ask him.
37:15It's frustrating because I did say,
37:16I did make it clear where I wanted it.
37:18It's not where it ended up.
37:20Buzz!
37:22Buzz!
37:24What the boss wants is what the boss gets.
37:31I shouldn't have to say things twice.
37:33We've got to stay sharp for the end of the season here.
37:35There's not much time left.
37:36We've got a lot of gold to get.
37:38Framed finally in place,
37:40Rick and his crew can reassemble the plant.
37:44We struggled getting the box out of the plant when we moved it,
37:47so we're going to use two machines to lift it up there,
37:49a 750 and a 700, one on each side,
37:51that way we get in there nice and straight.
37:54We're on the most expensive machine
37:56and about to lift up the most expensive part of this mine.
38:00We can make this a-hole happen.
38:11We ready to go in?
38:12Yep.
38:13You're close.
38:15Looks good.
38:17We have touchdown, Buzz.
38:18He's done.
38:20Beautiful.
38:25Looks really good.
38:27Really, really good.
38:29After two months without gold...
38:32This is what you guys put your bonuses on the line for.
38:34Time to see some gold again.
38:35Rick will soon find out
38:37if his Vegas Valley gamble will pay off.
38:41We're done hauling overburner.
38:42We got a whole pile of pay there.
38:43You ready to do it?
38:44Generator's in.
38:45Pump's in.
38:47It's time to fire.
38:49There's dirt in the box.
38:51Good energy, let's do it.
38:53Yeah.
38:54Fire up.
38:56It's fired.
38:59Yeah!
39:01F*** yeah.
39:02Vegas Valley, here we go.
39:05It's a hell of a view to see Monster Head
39:07finally getting pay fed through her.
39:09I mean, this Vegas Valley cut's been one hell of a cut,
39:11and it's been a battle the whole way.
39:14This has been a long time coming,
39:16but we finally got there.
39:18Now we just gotta hope we got enough weather,
39:20enough time to run the dirt and get the gold.
39:33I always like to see the dress run.
39:35I put a lot of money and effort in this thing,
39:37and no matter what anybody says,
39:39it's still cost per yard,
39:41the cheapest one to mine for gold.
39:44It's still cheaper than excavators,
39:47dozers, loaders, sluice boxes.
39:50When they dreamt these things up 100 years ago,
39:53somebody really was thinking.
39:55Somebody was thinking, all right.
39:57It is just nice to see that the technology
40:00from 100 years ago still works today.
40:04It's kind of like history coming alive, so to speak.
40:07So when I kicked the bucket,
40:08I'm one of the last, few last guys running a dress.
40:11There you go.
40:13There you go.
40:30We got quite a bit of gold in here.
40:32I got some in here, too.
40:33Couple good pockets.
40:34Looks pretty good.
40:35Big pile over there.
40:37After 2 days of running pay dirt,
40:40our guest crew checked Monster Red's sluices,
40:43a first look to see if their million-dollar gamble
40:47will pay out.
40:49Oh, hell yeah.
40:51Look at all that gold right there.
40:54It's just piles of it in that nugget sluice.
40:58You got some more down there.
41:01It's lit up like it's Christmas.
41:04Guys, nice job.
41:06Lots of gold in the mine.
41:08It's probably well worth, you know,
41:10the month and a half of hauling...
41:14just to get to pay.
41:17Yeah.
41:18Matt to wash.
41:20Getting this first cleanup from Vegas Valley done.
41:23Exciting to see what kind of gold we get out of it.
41:27See mats like that, it's pretty promising.
41:29It's a pretty decent picker.
41:33Everybody put up their gold bonuses for this.
41:36There it is, it's right there in the box.
41:38We got a long ways to go, we just started sluicing this stuff.
41:41I mean, everything's going to be against us,
41:43but that's what we're looking for right there,
41:45and all's we got to do is get that dirt through the plant,
41:48and we're going to have the gold, and that's all that matters.
42:03Good morning.
42:05How's it going?
42:06It's going. How are you?
42:08Not bad.
42:09Hi, everybody.
42:11How's it going?
42:12It's the end of a grueling week
42:15of day and night shifts for Kevin and his crew.
42:19We've been able to keep going 24s,
42:21and, like, if we really want to hit 1,000 ounces,
42:23that is what we're going to have to keep doing
42:25pretty much till the end of the season.
42:27Well, you still got the Beats blood in you, don't you?
42:29I'll make it work some... now.
42:32Kevin and Faith spent $2 million on start-up costs
42:36and still need nearly a million dollars in gold to break even.
42:42We've been running the Lynxcoat extension bay,
42:45even with the little excitement Hunter and Rick had
42:48with the loader being stuck,
42:50but they managed to keep the plant going, so...
42:52Look at that, George, full of the brim, so...
42:54It's obviously, like, we've hit something good.
42:57Hopefully that's bumped us up.
42:59Way up somebody's...
43:01Let's go!
43:03To hit their 1,000-ounce goal,
43:06they must hit 133 ounces every week.
43:1050, 60,
43:12100, 130,
43:14150,
43:16180,
43:18190,
43:20205.58.
43:24That's awesome.
43:26That's your biggest one yet this year.
43:28It's not quite double, but it does look like
43:30it has been paying out.
43:32It's a lot better than what we've been getting previous.
43:34By the way, there's more.
43:36There's more?
43:38Ooh, what are those?
43:40Nuggets?
43:41Oh, the nuggies.
43:42Holy s***.
43:43There you go.
43:44You want to just pour it out, Brennan?
43:46Ooh.
43:494.14 ounces.
43:52The nuggets tip their weekly haul
43:55to 209.72 ounces,
43:58worth over half a million dollars,
44:01bringing their season total to 680 ounces.
44:06F*** yeah.
44:07Yeah.
44:08Beautiful.
44:09I love that.
44:10That's not f***ing bad at all.
44:11That doesn't feel too bad to actually hit 1,000 now.
44:13That's, what, just over 300 ounces?
44:15We're not out of the woods yet.
44:17We really need to push for these last few weeks.
44:20All right, I want to find that next couple hundred ounces we need.
44:24You bet. We'll talk to you guys later.
44:26That's our biggest cleanup yet.
44:28It was nice to see that we were able to pull it out of the Lynx extension.
44:32The nuggies were a nice little addition,
44:34so we're well on our f***ing way, but can't rest now.
44:37We've still got a long way to 1,000 ounces.
44:51Hi, guys.
44:53Oh.
44:55Good to see you, Greg.
44:56Yeah, good to see you.
44:57Where you been?
44:58On the hill with Mike.
45:00Oh.
45:01She's got to look after Mike on the hill.
45:03Sure, we'll go with that.
45:05I'm mature enough that I can run around by myself.
45:07Well, that's a little debatable.
45:09Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
45:12For the first time in seven weeks,
45:15the Beets family finally has gold coming in at their Indian River claim.
45:21How are things on the hill, Mike?
45:22Good. Running every day.
45:24How about you, Greg?
45:25Well, dredge is up, running, and working just fine.
45:29Hey, Mike, you should ask him if he can keep it afloat.
45:32Well, we had a little hiccup.
45:35Just had a little lisp.
45:36Like, hit it 2 a.m., or are we talking?
45:39Okay, half of it was underwater and half was floating.
45:41How's that?
45:42Anyway, good thing that most of the leaks we fixed them,
45:45floated it out of there.
45:46Yeah.
45:47Keep it afloat, that's all we got to do.
45:48That's right.
45:50To hit their 5,000-ounce target,
45:53the Beets still need nearly 1,000 ounces.
45:57It's all doing good, so maybe want to weigh some gold,
46:00see what you got out of it.
46:01Yeah, that'd be nice.
46:04The dredge ran for three days and should deliver 35 ounces.
46:10Let's do it.
46:125, 10, 20, 30, 31.75, that's what she comes out to be.
46:27Putting $83,000 in the bank.
46:31So a little under an ounce an hour.
46:33Yeah, right, yeah.
46:35You ready, Mike?
46:36Yeah.
46:38Next up...
46:3910.
46:40Mike's Paradise Hill Trommel,
46:42which has been averaging 200 ounces a week.
46:46100, 120, 130, 160, 172.15.
46:59Worth nearly half a million dollars,
47:04taking the Beets' season total to 4,363 ounces.
47:10Very good.
47:11Good job, Michael.
47:12Yeah.
47:13Seven, 12-hour shifts, it generally does add up.
47:16Well, that's all pretty good, guys, thank you.
47:18And they can't retire on the dredge yet,
47:21so we'll have to go back out there and see if we get some more.
47:24Right?
47:25I'm not making any money sitting here.
47:27Guys, later.
47:28Yeah, guys.
47:29All right.
47:31It's nice to see something out of the dredge.
47:34It still brings in a nice, steady little cash flow.
47:37Anyway, we'll do our best to get these other two plants here rolling.
47:41You are here with a lot of people,
47:43and there's not a lot coming out here.
47:45It doesn't spoil, so at some point we'll get it.
47:47That's not the point.
47:48Right now we're spending a lot of money here.
47:50Time is getting a little shorter, too.
47:52We need to get some revenue.
47:54OK, OK, I get it, I get it.
47:56Later, Missy.
47:58Later, boy.
48:01Bye-bye.
