00:27Number seven, audience member.
00:30There are many ways to insult a person.
00:32And sometimes you don't even have to be the focus of the show to cross that line.
00:36You see, like many hosts with their own shows, Ellen likes to be kind to the audience,
00:41such as in one case where she did a giveaway for the crowd.
00:44It wasn't a lot.
00:46She gave away a bunch of swag, shirts, cups, hats, those kinds of things.
00:50But it's really the thought that counts here.
00:52It's stuff that they can own and know that not many people have.
00:56It's a gesture and a nice one at that.
00:59There was only one catch.
01:00Each audience member could only get one item.
01:03Gee, I wonder what happened.
01:06When the time came, Ellen sent the audience members in groups to go get their swag.
01:10But what the audience didn't know was that Ellen had wired the room
01:14with cameras, likely for giggles, but also to make sure that guests
01:17followed the rules or to see if any touching moments occurred.
01:21And lo and behold, one did when one woman wanted both a T-shirt and a hat,
01:26but couldn't because of the rule.
01:29So her friend offered to buy her that hat later on.
01:32A very nice thing.
01:33And Ellen was more than happy to just give the lady the hat without charge.
01:37However, some didn't have that same amount of honor.
01:40For one audience member entered the room and clearly didn't know
01:43that there was a camera watching her.
01:45Not only did she take more than one item, she got her friends to take even more items.
01:50Oh, but that wasn't enough for her.
01:52She then went and made passes and lied to other audience members
01:56just so she could get even more swag for herself.
02:05And when the time came to reveal it,
02:07Ellen did in full glory and without editing,
02:10just so everyone in the world who was watching could see what the woman did.
02:15She has no one to blame but herself.
02:17She insulted Ellen's kindness and now she has to live with the shame
02:21when she tried to explain herself.
02:23Ellen wasn't buying it one bit and proved while Ellen is a great lady
02:27in front of the camera, she's not afraid to be shrewd and prove a point.
02:30In fact, she threw her in her show's jail just so we could be very clear
02:34what she had done and how wrong it was.
02:37The lesson here, if Ellen does a kind thing for you, don't ruin the moment.
02:42Number six, Giada De Laurentiis.
02:45Ellen loves food.
02:46And so she occasionally has her fair share of cooking guests on her show
02:50to make some fun meals and have general cooking fun with the audience.
02:54This included chef Giada De Laurentiis.
02:57Usually, this would have been a perfect cooking guest,
03:00except that Giada couldn't control herself when she was on the show.
03:04And that resulted in many insults on Ellen's behalf,
03:07which made her appearance all the more tense and weird.
03:10Giada De Laurentiis kept laying into Ellen in one form or another
03:14with no signs of stopping while they cooked together.
03:17The dish they were making was a special kind of rice balls.
03:20Ellen was having a little trouble making the rice balls.
03:23So Giada said that it looked like dog food now.
03:26Oh, then when the other guest, Nicole Kidman, came aboard
03:29to help make some rice balls, too, she said,
03:31the woman who can't cook made the perfect ball and a ball.
03:36Oh, my God, the woman who can't cook with a perfect ball.
03:39Ellen and Kidman later teamed up to take down Giada,
03:42including insulting the renowned chef's bread.
03:45Giada did return to the show later, but it was still very awkward.
03:49Oh, my God, I'm going to fix it.
03:52Look, there, there, it's all fixed.
03:57So the lesson here is if you're invited to Ellen's show to cook,
04:01focus on the food and be nice when something doesn't turn out right.
04:04That's called class.
04:06And that's not something that should have to be explained.
04:09Number five, Sean Hayes.
04:12One of the reasons that Ellen DeGeneres is one of the most beloved hosts
04:16on TV is because she's light on her feet.
04:18She's just able to take jests and return them in kind without much effort.
04:23Also, Ellen DeGeneres is proudly gay, and she's all for having people
04:27of the LGBTQ plus community on her show,
04:30which includes famous actor Sean Hayes of Will and Grace fame.
04:34For the record, this particular jest fest was before the reboot
04:37came back on NBC.
04:39They decided to go right for it and ask each other things
04:41and give very pointed responses to the other.
04:44It started out very fun, and then it got a bit real, like really real.
04:49For example, Hayes made fun of how Ellen sometimes struggles
04:52with interview questions, like going from one question to another smoothly.
04:56Then Ellen fired back about how Will and Grace got canceled,
05:00to which Hayes fired back.
05:01I think it was longer than your sitcom was on Ellen's response.
05:05Yeah, that's right.
05:06I had to come out first for y'all to do that sitcom.
05:09How long was it the first time around before y'all got canceled?
05:14Yeah.
05:20I think it was longer than your sitcom.
05:24Yeah, that's right.
05:25The two joined in a genuine laugh, with Hayes even admitting
05:28it's funny because it's true.
05:30So, yeah, there were some insults flown, but in the end,
05:33it was a good contest of barbs between friends.
05:35And that's to be praised,
05:37unlike some other people who went after Ellen and definitely not being her friend.
05:45Wendy Williams has made a career of throwing insults and shade,
05:48which has made her very popular.
05:51Yet it's also made her a target of those who didn't appreciate the shade.
05:55She also had beef with Ellen for reasons described as personality clashes.
05:59But likely it was just something Wendy perceived as a thing
06:03when it really wasn't.
06:04As two of the top ladies of talk shows, they occasionally go onto each other's
06:08programs, including one time when Wendy went onto Ellen's show
06:12and things didn't go so well.
06:14Ellen asked her why she threw some shade on Kanye West and Kim Kardashian
06:18while they were expecting their first child.
06:20This was back in 2013, and Williams played it off.
06:24But then in support of Ellen, Williams applauded her veganism
06:28and her PETA support.
06:29But then she asked, how can you live without bacon?
06:32Ellen wasn't amused with the question and went, well,
06:35because I think pigs are very smart animals.
06:37I know you're totally vegan.
06:39Yeah, that's all right.
06:40How do you live without bacon?

06:47And when Williams came back a few years later, she made a joke
06:50that Ellen and Justin Bieber were said to look alike.
06:54And some people say that he looks like you.
06:58I've heard that.
06:59You've never heard that.
07:00They say it in a good way.
07:02Do I look like Justin Bieber?
07:03No, they have made the equation.
07:05Well, that's in a good way.
07:07I don't mind that. He's cute.
07:08He's adorable. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:12No one should be compared to Bieber.
07:13And I think we should just leave it there.
07:16Number three, Justin Timberlake.
07:18Justin Timberlake is one of the most popular singers
07:21and celebrities in the world, no doubt.
07:23So naturally, he made an appearance on Ellen after a while,
07:27except one time Ellen made a mistake on camera and he called her out on it hard.
07:32You see, they had been drinking tequila while playing one of Justin's songs.
07:36While this was going on, Ellen messed up one of the lines to the song.
07:40Justin was not amused as he couldn't believe she didn't know the lyrics.
07:44Ellen noted it was an honest mistake and even asked the audience for help.
07:48But Justin wasn't having it.
07:50Then her own DJ turned on her and played the song in question
07:53and made it very clear just how much she screwed up.
07:57So what's the lesson here?
07:58Well, there's fault on both sides.
08:00First, drinking and singing should never go together
08:03unless it's karaoke segment, you know.
08:05Second, Justin should have given Ellen some slack for not knowing the song.
08:09But Ellen should have known the song ahead of time if this was a planned thing.
08:13Not the most harmful of insults, but definitely one that got Ellen
08:17a bit hot under the collar because of the dunce spotlight put on her.
08:22Number two, Jennifer Lawrence.
08:24There's a line that you need to respect when you go on to a show like Ellen,
08:27especially if you think bad mouthing gay people is a good idea.
08:32That goes double when the host is Ellen DeGeneres, a confirmed lesbian with a wife.
08:37And yet Jennifer Lawrence not only crossed the line she shouldn't cross,
08:41she continued to make jokes that made Ellen very uncomfortable and angry.
08:45This all started during the interview where Lawrence made a joke
08:48about her own cat, which was fine at first, except that the joke was
08:52that she called her cat, which was female, Chaz Bono, because of the cat's
08:55masculine energy.
08:57Do you not want that?
08:58Yeah, little Chaz Bono.
08:59And you got her. Is that her name?
09:01Chaz Bono is the son of legendary duo Sonny and Cher, and Chaz is transgender,
09:07which Ellen fully supports and doesn't like to hear insulted.
09:10Jennifer didn't stop after the joke was made, though.
09:13She went into a rant of sorts about cats, cat genders and other very odd things.
09:18Ellen was poised the whole time.
09:20Eventually, once Lawrence was done with her gender rant,
09:23Ellen did the only thing she could.
09:25She moved away from the bad joke and went on to another topic,
09:29making it obvious that she wasn't happy about what happened,
09:32but didn't want to explode on Lawrence, which Lawrence definitely noticed
09:36because she was shell shocked by how quickly the conversation changed.
09:39Lawrence definitely made a mistake here.
09:41And you have to wonder if she understood what she did or not.
09:45Number one, Caitlyn Jenner.
09:48After the birth of Caitlyn Jenner, many people wanted to talk to her
09:51and get views on things.
09:53And it's led to tense situations and interviews,
09:55including a very poignant encounter with Ellen.
09:58To be fair, when they did their first interview together,
10:00Ellen was all for Caitlyn and her fight for the rights of transgender people.
10:04And it all seemed to be going great
10:06until Caitlyn started to talk about her feelings on gay marriage.
10:09To refresh, Ellen is not just gay.
10:11She's happily married.
10:13According to Jenner, she was once very opposed to it
10:16because of her traditionalist nature,
10:18which is the logic behind many such people's beliefs against gay marriage.
10:22But when Jenner tried to recover and say she was OK with it now,
10:25Ellen wasn't biting, not one bit.
10:27She called Caitlyn Jenner out on it.
10:29And that's when things got really awkward.
10:31I mean, I kind of like tradition.
10:33And, you know, it's always been a man and a woman.
10:36And I'm thinking I don't quite get it.
10:39After the interview, Ellen stated that she still didn't understand
10:42Jenner's position on the matter of gay marriage.
10:45Caitlyn Jenner is on the show today, our first show.
10:48And she really does.
10:49She still has a judgment about gay marriage.
10:52She said, if the word marriage is that important.
10:54And I was like, it is because that's the word.
10:56Furthermore, Ellen offered Caitlyn the chance to dance with her,
10:59but she wouldn't do it.
11:00So Ellen said maybe she didn't want to dance with me because I'm a lesbian.
11:04Jenner later responded that she didn't like how Ellen treated her.
11:08Does she not remember what exactly happened?
11:10Because it was the other way around of not being treated right.
11:13I told her my progression and it was totally taken out of context
11:16because, you know, this is a progression over 20 years.
11:19I came from a different generation.
