00:00George Clooney had a big, big night with an old project that he is now debuting in a different form.
00:07You remember his Oscar-nominated film, Good Night and Good Luck, is now on Broadway.
00:15And George is stepping into the role of Edward R. Murrow, which had been played by David Strathairn.
00:23And George Clooney had written and directed the previous movie.
00:27He was part of the other movie, and now he's starring in the lead role.
00:31So if you're George Clooney and you're making your Broadway debut, all of your famous friends are going to come out, right?
00:36They did. Obviously, he was holding court outside the Winter Garden Theater in Times Square.
00:43But he got all the support you'd expect. His good buddy Randy Gerber was there with his wife Cindy and daughter Kaya.
00:52Jennifer Lopez, who, by the way, that's not a dress you wear just to be like, oh, I'm going to support my friend George Clooney.
01:01And who's the person sitting behind her?
01:03The cape has to come off, right? The cape's got to come off when she sits down.
01:08I'm behind Jennifer Lopez, but then you've spent all this money on this ticket.
01:11All I can see is the cape.
01:13Well, to be fair, I think she took off the cape when she sat down, because she also took it off when she was making her entrance,
01:19and she looked stunning in it.
01:21But the thing that was more surprising to me is that George Clooney's wife was nowhere to be seen.
01:26She was at home with the kids, and it's your husband's Broadway debut.
01:30So the fact that she wasn't there is so odd to me, and I don't think it's really fair to say she was watching the kids,
01:36because you knew the scene was coming.
01:38What do you mean you can't say it's fair? I mean, George was asked about it, and he knew that there was going to be a question.
01:43So he very openly said, look, the kids are seven, the twins.
01:49And he said, yeah, she's at home with the kids.
01:51They live in New York City now.
01:53They all moved there while he was preparing for the play.
01:58But I know it does sound weird that you wouldn't be able to get a babysitter.
02:05It's not a surprise day, Charles.
02:09They knew that this day was coming.
02:10They had months and months to plan to get a sitter.
02:12They could have figured it out.
02:13It's not just any other movie.
02:15It's his very first show ever on Broadway.
02:17So you'd think that she would be there for the premiere of it.
02:20She's probably seen all the rehearsals, though.
02:22She's like, all right, I've already seen it.
02:24Do I have to do it again?
02:25Well, I like to think that she's a little bit mad that he dyed his hair and cut the beard,
02:29because George looks so much better as a silver fox.
02:32And to see him clean shaven is a little upsetting to me.
02:35So I could be on her side, if that's also the reasoning.
02:37Hi, I'm McKenna.
02:39I'm from Western New York.
02:40Being a former theater kid, it always really excites me to see actors I've seen in movies and TV
02:46expand their repertoire into Broadway.
02:49I think having other successful Broadway actors there last night at the opening,
02:53like Hugh Jackman and Rachel Ziegler, really bodes well for the success of Good Night and Good Luck.
02:58And I'm really excited to see what Clooney brings to Broadway.
03:01I mean, it's really cool that both at the same time this is happening,
03:04you have Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal in Othello on Broadway,
03:09which just made its debut as well.
03:11So what a time to be in New York.
03:13The Tony Awards are going to look more like the Oscars.
03:15Yeah, bigger stars than at the Oscars, honestly.
03:18By the way, he's not going to get in.
03:21Even if he were to win a Tony, it's only an ought.
03:24He doesn't have an Emmy, which is weird.
03:27Doesn't have a Grammy either, which you'd expect.
03:30So no EGOT coming up.
03:33Robbed for ER.
