00:00Buffalo Bills head coach sure did take an interesting stance regarding the tush
00:03push this last week. In this video we're going to talk about why it doesn't quite
00:07make sense for him to have that opinion.
00:11What's up everybody it is Jon Helmkamp with A to Z Buffalo. This last week
00:15Sean McDermott who is a part of the NFL competition committee
00:19said that he was in favor of banning the tush push
00:22for player safety reasons. He said that the quarterback sneak is something
00:25that's been around for a long time in the NFL but when you
00:29add in the pushing mechanism from behind that he thinks that it's an
00:33unsafe posture which raises his level of concern
00:36significantly according to him. What doesn't make sense about that is
00:40that he and the Buffalo Bills run a version of the tush push on their
00:44own fourth down quarterback sneaks. They line the running back up behind
00:47the quarterback who immediately goes in and shoves Josh Allen forward
00:50as they attempt to pick up the first down which they're incredibly successful
00:53at. They were 21 for 22 on their quarterback sneaks over the
00:57course of the regular season. But if Sean McDermott thinks that it's
01:00such a player safety concern that this play should not exist in
01:05football then why are you willing to subject your
01:08own team to it? That doesn't make any sense to me. Your stance should either be
01:12yes it's a safety concern and therefore we don't run the quarterback sneak that
01:16way or no it's not a safety concern which is
01:20why we continue to run it. Being somewhere in the middle put Sean
01:23McDermott in a really interesting spot where he's coming across as a bit
01:28hypocritical to be quite honest. Sean McDermott also said that he believes
01:32that the Bills and the Eagles would be just as successful running other
01:36variations of the quarterback sneak that don't require the pushing mechanism.
01:40If that's the case Sean then how about you just do that?
01:43The outcome of the conversations around the tush push ended up being tabled
01:46until probably next year where there were multiple reports coming out
01:50that the vote was split right down the middle meaning that there's going to be
01:54at least one more season where the tush push is allowed and I'll be curious to
01:57see if Sean McDermott still implements it in his own
02:00offense. Let me know what you guys think about Sean McDermott's comments on the
02:03tush push down below and I will see you guys next time.
