"Le courage, c'est faire ce dont on a peur, et c'est difficile. Et vous allez échouer mille fois. Protégez votre propre magie."

Elle mixe depuis les années 90. DJ de l’année 2016, elle est très engagée pour les causes qui lui tiennent à coeur.
Histoire perso, GTA, styles musicaux…
On a discuté une heure dans un taxi avec The Blessed Madonna, présente à Paris pour l’événement "Red Bull Back2Beyond" où elle a mixé. Et on n’a pas été déçu.

00:00Off the Eiffel Tower?
00:02Hello!
00:04It's that Carrie Bradshaw moment where she's like
00:06Hey you!
00:08Are you saying it one more time?
00:10Grand Theft Auto
00:12I love that, that's so cute
00:14How did I find it?
00:16I don't know if I've found my musical style yet
00:18Dreams?
00:20I'm dreaming of a future
00:22where I'm not afraid
00:24to have dreams
00:30I'm Maria
00:32Bless Madonna
00:34Nice to meet you
00:36I'm sorry I don't want to have a very good voice right now
00:38My singing career is over
00:40Not your first time in Paris, right?
00:42Oh no
00:44Not my first at all
00:46I've been here many, many times
00:48and I love it
00:50I have very dear friends here
00:52Sorry, I'm putting ginger in my ginger
00:54I love it
00:56I love it
00:58Sorry, I'm putting ginger in my ginger
01:00Super ginger
01:02This is not alcohol, I swear
01:04You got the top there
01:06I started DJing in 1999
01:08and I didn't leave the country
01:10until 2014
01:12and even when I was playing
01:14around the Midwest
01:16I was like a $50 DJ
01:18I was playing
01:20Somebody got a restaurant
01:22in Dayton, Ohio
01:24Even when I lived in Chicago
01:26Before I worked at Smart Bar
01:28I hadn't been paid to DJ for like a year
01:30and I got to go
01:32to Panorama Bar
01:34on Sunday
01:36at 7pm
01:38It was game over
01:40It was nothing
01:42and then I was like boom
01:44You could just feel things changing
01:46and then a year later
01:48I was Mixed Mag DJ of the Year
01:50When I was a child
01:52I wanted to be an astronaut
01:54I didn't think it would have been music
01:56because my dad was a musician
01:58and he was a miserable drunk
02:00Getting into the family business
02:02didn't seem like such a great idea
02:04and he would have
02:06agreed with me
02:08I was such a weird kid
02:10I was just bored and in school
02:12and I dropped out of high school
02:14I was a DJ for a long time
02:16before I ever really got paid to do it
02:18and I was into dance music
02:20just culturally
02:22since like 1992
02:24but I didn't start DJing
02:26until I was in college
02:28and I had absolutely no evidence
02:30that it would be a job
02:32for me
02:34and I always had to have
02:36you know
02:38two jobs, three jobs
02:40you know
02:42America is very expensive
02:44and you just gotta do what you gotta do
02:46How did you find your musical style?
02:48How did I find it?
02:50Yeah
02:52I don't know if I found my musical style yet
02:54I would never say that I have a style
02:56Music happens to you
02:58It's not
03:00It never comes from you
03:02Get me a DJ!
03:04Let's get to the disco!
03:08Great music, great crowd
03:10We got the London Massive
03:12Oh, I love being Miranda Padova
03:14So here's how it happened
03:16So the people that created the game
03:18are actually old school
03:20Midwest kind of rave people
03:22So the music in that game
03:24is not a coincidence
03:26Like, they have always been good
03:28I was asked to be in it
03:30and I said
03:32I was like, yeah but tell them
03:34I'll only be in it if I can
03:36punch a cop
03:38And that's what they did
03:40So
03:42I went to where they make the games
03:44Well, they do a lot of the work in Glasgow
03:46but they have a place
03:48in New York
03:50that is, it's where they used to make
03:52the Lunar Modules
03:54And so you put on the little suits
03:56with the little
03:58I don't know, tennis ball things on them
04:00and I had to learn to
04:02like, act as myself
04:04and I was like
04:06And then the DJ said it was real
04:08About every six months
04:10everyone on TikTok
04:12loves Grand Theft Auto
04:14realizes I'm a person in real life
04:16Oh my god, you're real?
04:26Do you think it's essential as an artist
04:28to get involved in causes?
04:30Well, it's clearly not essential
04:32because there's a lot of people
04:34who couldn't think
04:36or argue their way out of a wet paper bag
04:38I mean, 99% of people
04:40in dance music
04:42are complete fucking cowards
04:44The richest people in dance music
04:46are the most afraid
04:48that they're gonna fuck up the bag
04:50So it's certainly not essential
04:54Because if it was essential
04:56we could just
04:5899% of those lineups would go
05:00What would you like to say
05:02to the young people who follow you
05:04who follow us, who have dreams
05:06and who hesitate to take the plunge for various reasons
05:08Stick to your guns
05:10You're gonna do things
05:12Courage is doing the thing that you're afraid of
05:14And it is hard and you're gonna fail a thousand times
05:16I just think you have to really
05:18protect your
05:20your own magic
05:22I can't tell anybody young
05:24how long it'll take to be able to
05:26pay your house payment with house music
05:28or if it'll ever happen
05:30It's a good fight
