00:00I say STEM, you say FEST! STEM! FEST! STEM! FEST!
00:09This is our fifth year running this and as far as engineering and construction goes year on
00:15year we've built upon what we offer to the school children it's amazing we've hit record
00:20numbers this year of how many children are attending the event. Science, technology,
00:25engineering and mathematics is such key subjects really and sometimes it's difficult to get
00:30children involved in the actual classroom so to bring them to an event like this where they've
00:34got so much interaction and people that work in these organisations showing them how things work
00:40and how they interact with everyday life is great to see. My kids absolutely love going to STEM FEST
00:45it's one of sort of the highlights of our year in school it's one of those big events that we
00:49can come out and we can mix with the community and they get to see so much from what the industries
00:53have to offer so it's really really interesting and just getting that sort of communication with
00:57all the different people and schools it's brilliant for them. I learned how that you can do the same
01:03measuring as scallops or trees on bones and fish and their scales with a microscope. Today I learned
01:10how to use VRs easily and safely and Rubik's Cubes very simply. My favourite activity at STEM FEST
01:18was the water maze because it was just super fun because you had to like try to put the water
01:23and get it to the tank and then you got to do the water pressures and it was really fun.
01:28Today I learned that steam can be produced into light. There's a lot of learning that's very
01:33transferable so we've done it here and we've been able to take it back to the classroom.
01:36I think it's incredibly important that our children get the opportunity to come and explore
01:41how the skills that they're learning throughout their school life can be deployed into different
01:46career paths and to learn about the opportunities that there are when they eventually go into the
01:52workplace and hopefully ignite their curiosity and their interests to see what they could
01:59eventually end up doing when they leave school. It's amazing STEM FEST because it takes what we
02:04learn in the classroom into reality. It puts a lot of things and ideas and questions that they have
02:10into context. The active learning, the engagement, the activities, they've just been so engaged it's
02:16been incredible. You see all the excitement from the kids actually being able to do things when
02:20they come here so it's a great event. Today I've even made a juggle out of myself so here we go.
