Prime Minister Modi and Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus met in Bangkok for bilateral talks. Yunus gifted Modi a framed photo from 2015, showing Modi presenting him a gold medal at the 102nd Indian Science Congress. The meeting, requested by Yunus, took place amid recent tensions between India and Bangladesh. It marks their first interaction since Yunus became Chief Advisor of Bangladesh's caretaker government.

00:00Updates coming in on a meeting that's taken place between Prime Minister Modi and the
00:04Chief Advisor of the Bangladesh government, Mohammad Yunus.
00:08And first picture of a photo that was presented by Mohammad Yunus to Prime Minister Modi.
00:14This was after the bilateral meeting that's taken place in Bangkok.
00:19What exactly is this gift?
00:20Well, it's a photo of Prime Minister Modi presenting a gold medal to Professor Yunus.
00:25Back in 2015, it was at the 102nd Indian Science Congress, when Prime Minister Modi had presented
00:33Mohammad Yunus with a gold medal.
00:35So that memory being, in fact, framed and given by Mohammad Yunus to Prime Minister
00:43Modi as a gift.
00:45First images on your screens on India Today of one of, really, the moments from that bilateral.
00:51All eyes are on this meeting and what really emerged, what were the takeaways, particularly
00:56because we've been seeing quite a bit of tension between India and Bangladesh in the last many
01:00months since Mohammad Yunus took over as the Chief Advisor, essentially caretaker, of the
01:05Bangladesh government.
01:06But in this picture, you can see the two leaders all smiles as Mohammad Yunus presented this
01:12photo to Prime Minister Modi.
01:14This meeting and this bilateral took place in Bangkok on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC
01:19Summit at the request of Mohammad Yunus.
01:22And so you can see him gifting this particular photo to Prime Minister Modi.
01:27It's a photo of Prime Minister Modi back in 2015 presenting a gold medal to Professor
01:32Yunus at the 102nd Indian Science Congress.
01:35But this is the first time the two leaders are meeting in this capacity, in the sense
01:39it's the first meeting after Mohammad Yunus took over as the Chief Advisor of the Bangladesh
01:44government.
01:50This is a photo essentially that Mohammad Yunus has gifted to Prime Minister Modi from
01:53the meeting back in 2015, from 10 years ago.
01:58And obviously with these pictures emerging, there's going to be a lot of talk and scanning
02:02of the body language between the two leaders.
02:05It definitely seems in this particular frame at least that there is some warmth between
02:10India and Bangladesh, which will give signs of hope that we will see ties between India
02:16and Bangladesh progressing.
02:17In the last few months, there's been roadblock after roadblock in ensuring progress really
02:22in relations between India and Bangladesh.
02:24Roadblocks largely put up by the man on your screens, by Mohammad Yunus, with the kind
02:28of provocative statements that he's been making, or for that matter, ignoring repeated requests
02:33from India to ensure that Hindu minorities in Bangladesh are taken care of.
02:38Even most recently, last week, you had a very provocative statement that came in from Mohammad
02:42Yunus when he referred to Northeast as being landlocked, to which of course there was a
02:47sharp rebuttal also from the Indian side.
02:50But these pictures that have come in, is it an indication perhaps that things will get
02:55better between India and Bangladesh?
02:57That most certainly will be the hope, but we will wait for an official communication
03:01from the Indian government on this meeting.
