00:00All right, I wanted to play these two coaches.
00:02They were both introduced yesterday for their new jobs.
00:05Here's the great Kevin Willard, who
00:07jumped ship from Maryland over to Villanova.
00:11Here he is talking about why he wanted to go to Villanova.
00:15And at the end of the day, he doesn't
00:17want to talk about how things went at Maryland anymore.
00:19Obviously, I think some of my comments during the NCAA
00:22tournament probably could have been
00:23a little bit less abrasive.
00:25But unfortunately, sometimes when
00:28my passion for my program, my passion for my players
00:31come out, I get a little excited.
00:34The only thing I'm going to say is normal fans just
00:39don't understand what went on.
00:42I had such a great team.
00:43I was so focused on my team.
00:45I was so focused on my players.
00:48Winning those games, hitting a buzzer
00:50beer against Colorado State, beating out West
00:53with my team for 12 days was such a great experience for me.
00:58We had so much fun out there.
01:00The timeline, no one knows it.
01:02No one understands it.
01:04I can't change that, and I'm not worried about that.
01:06All I'm going to say is that Maryland just
01:09got a great coach and buzz, and I'm really happy for them.
01:11And I'm super excited to be at a great basketball conference
01:14here, and I just think it's time that everyone move on.
01:18OK, so let me move on to this then, coach.
01:21Thanks so much for all your advice.
01:23This guy has been the one sweet 16.
01:26He is the most overrated basketball coach
01:29I've ever seen in my life that keeps getting big jobs.
01:32I mean, honest to God.
01:34Like, let's just stop with all this nonsense.
01:37And it's pretty obvious he's a backstabber.
01:41I mean, like, what more do you need to know to handle
01:43the team in Maryland?
01:44Like, who didn't he throw under the bus at Maryland?
01:47And then, like, he lied through his teeth the whole time.
01:52Like, so we know who he really is now full on.
01:55So enjoy him while you got him in there,
01:58and watch your wallets and cell phones.
02:03Watch your wallets and cell phones, indeed.
02:05So Buzz Williams was introduced at Maryland.
02:07Did he hear all of the things that Kevin Willard was
02:11saying last week about the program
02:13and how there needs to be more, that that gets done, et cetera?
02:16Buzz apparently knew nothing about that
02:19when he took the Maryland job.
02:20Liar.
02:21I think that that's not to speak ill
02:24towards Coach Willard or the team.
02:27I didn't hear all of it, nor do I think all of it's important.
02:31But relative to what I thought was
02:33important on the commitment going forward,
02:36on what is needed to be successful at the highest
02:40level, there was never any question from them
02:45on the commitment for us, me, the staff, NIL, the players,
02:52the resources, the Gossett Center.
02:54I saw that this morning with a hard hat on.
02:57Like, I don't know how many of those
02:59will be available in August.
03:01It's going to be the best in the country.
03:03So I'm not trying to be argumentative on anything,
03:07but I'm at peace with all of it.
03:10OK, well, one guy said they're cheap as F.
03:13And the other guy says it's the greatest situation
03:16I've ever seen in my life, and we got a new arena.
03:18I'll give him this.
03:19He's got a new arena.
03:21And I'll give him this.
03:22He can coach.
03:24I'll also give him this.
03:25This guy moves around like a United van lines.
03:29Like, him in six years at College Park,
03:34he'll be gone in three years.
03:36Four years max, he'll be gone again.
03:38All he does is change jobs.
03:40This guy has changed jobs five times.
03:43I mean, honestly, he's from Texas, and he walked on them.
03:50And they got more money than God down there
03:52in College Station to go to Maryland.
03:56And I got to tell you, look, I think
03:59Maryland's pretty decent in basketball.
04:01I'll give them that.
04:02I think they are.
04:03I really do.
04:05But nothing else.
04:08I mean, it's not that attractive.
04:10Are you kidding me?
04:12I mean, I could talk about seven programs in the Big Ten
04:15that are more attractive, at least.
04:18But I got 14 teams.
04:19Half of the conference is better than Maryland in terms of,
04:22like, let's just get real here.
04:24Like, what, you're going to tell me Maryland's better than
04:26Michigan, coaching at Ann Arbor, or at Michigan State,
04:32or at Indiana?
04:34Indiana's got more juice than Maryland in terms of basketball.
04:37They got five national championships.
04:41And he's going to have to basically start over,
04:43kind of like what Cal did at Arkansas last year,
04:45because half the team's in the portal already.
04:48And the other half are either don't have any more eligibility
04:52or the kid Queen's going to go to the draft.
04:53You know that.
04:54He's going to the NBA.
04:55Yeah, he's going to the NBA.
04:56So he's basically starting from the ground up.
05:00And now you could do that faster in college nowadays
05:03because of the portal.
05:03You can get a good team fairly quickly.
05:06But the guy who just left told me
05:08that they're not going to spend money.
05:11That's what the guy who just left pretty much just told you.
05:14So we'll see.
05:15And the guy that was running the program
05:17couldn't get out of there fast enough.
05:19His boss bolted.
05:20He's like, I'm out of here.
