00:00So, who am I talking to, you?
00:02Right, thank God, because I'll start freaking out when you look at a camera, don't you?
00:05So I'm Jason. I founded Necropolis Spirits along with my pal Anton.
00:10About a year and a half ago we started drinking whisky.
00:13I always seen it as like an old man's drink.
00:15And then my friend does like tastings and stuff.
00:19So I went to his tasting and I really, really enjoyed it.
00:21And I thought it would be quite good to do it from a perspective of learning.
00:28We bought three single casks.
00:30The liquid's finite, so this one has 160 bottles.
00:33This one's got 300 and this one's got 330.
00:35Once they're done, they're done.
00:37There's a lot of independent bottles at the minute.
00:39And we wanted to try and do something a wee bit different.
00:42And what we've done is we've put an NFC chip on the side.
00:46So what will happen is when you get your phone, you'll scan it.
00:50And it will take you to a website.
00:52And that will have a page where you put some details in to prove you're over 18.
00:57And when you go on to that, you can watch the videos from us printing the labels to bottling.
01:02And all the problems that actually come up when you're doing it.
01:05Other things we'll be doing is we talk to the guys who sold us the casks.
01:10And again, we just be as honest as possible.
01:13We're not trying to hide it. We're just trying to show as much of the process.
01:17And then from there you can subscribe to YouTube.
01:19You can see how the cake's made, if you want to put it that way.
01:21We felt like with whisky we were kind of skipped in a generation.
01:26By none of our friends drank whisky.
01:29So we tried to make it not more accessible or inclusive.
01:33But to show that you don't need to be an old guy to drink it.
01:36Do you know what I mean?
01:37And that's what we kind of hope to do with the videos.
01:40Because we are very down to earth.
01:41And we talk about this in the videos.
01:42We're not putting a different side on.
01:44Which if you kind of watch stuff on whisky, it is quite polished.
01:49Do you know what I mean?
01:50So we try to just be as ourselves as possible.
01:54Honestly, I started watching Yellowstone.
01:56So they drink massive whiskies, right?
01:58And I was like, my girlfriend was away for the weekend in a hen do or something.
02:02And I went to the co-op and I was watching it.
02:04And I was like, that looks brilliant.
02:06And I was like, I'm going to go.
02:08So I went to the shop and bought a Glenmerangi.
02:10Brought it back.
02:11Bought apple juice as well.
02:13Because I didn't really know what to mix whisky with if it wasn't nice.
02:15And I tried it and it was terrible.
02:17And I hated it.
02:18And I was like, right.
02:19And then I persisted.
02:20I finished that full bottle that night.
02:22But it was with apple juice.
02:23So I'm going to force myself to like it.
02:26So I tried another bottle, like, maybe a week later.
02:29And it was better.
02:30And I was finding that I was getting more into, like, Speyside whisky.
02:33And when I looked it up, Speyside stuff is, like, the easiest to drink.
02:36It's, like, fruity.
02:37Smooth.
02:38Like, not as harsh as, like, the Islands.
02:41The Islands and stuff have got, like, peated stuff.
02:43And I was finding this pure fascinating.
02:45So that's why I kind of wanted to explore it.
02:47I like the storytelling of it as well.
02:49Like, distilleries are very, you need to be really, really geeky
02:52to be into every single bit about, like, you need to know different things.
02:55And I'm fascinated by how much people take it seriously.
02:59How much it's a hobby.
