00:00Welcome to the Volvo Car Safety Centre.
00:05Here at the crash lab, we have the capability to recreate almost any accident
00:10and capture the complexity of the real world.
00:13It allows us to push our cars far beyond the standard requirements
00:18to meet the ambitious Volvo safety standard.
00:21During development, we crash our cars thousands of times using computer simulations.
00:28But before anyone gets behind the wheel, we do physical tests with real cars.
00:39Today, we are crashing two of our safest cars.
00:43This is beyond any test for ratings, but essential for safety in the real world.
00:58To fulfil our safety standard, we make sure every car meets a long list of criteria.
01:14For instance, the safety cage must remain intact, the airbags must deploy correctly
01:19and the battery must disconnect within milliseconds.
01:23All to help keep you protected.
01:27But to us, safety is more than saving lives.
01:31We also aim to make you feel safe, so you can embrace life.
01:37That means helping to avoid accidents in the first place.
01:42That's why we develop technology to help support you when needed.
01:48Because the safest accident is the one that never happens.
01:59At Volvo Cars, we believe you shouldn't have to choose between safety and design.
02:04We have a long history of creating cars that combine both.
02:09Our Volvo Amazon here is a great example
02:12and one of the first cars to introduce the three-point safety belt.
02:16With the ES90, we are adding another incredible chapter to our history books.
02:26With the ES90, we wanted to continue our legacy
02:30with a car that is designed with safety and desirability in equal measure,
02:35taking inspiration from the timeless design of our past models.
02:40Like the Volvo 780, we designed the ES90 to balance form and function in one car.
02:47Let's have a look at it.
02:52This way.
02:55Sorry, that way.
02:56As I was saying, the ES90 is all about balance.
03:01Because in our modern lives, you never know when you will need to switch from one role to another.
