The Waqf Amendment Bill is set to be tabled in the Lok Sabha, sparking debates in both houses of Parliament. A Muslim group, Jamiat Himayat Islam, has come out in support of the bill, stating that only land grabbers fear the amendments. This stance contrasts with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board's opposition. The government emphasises the need for transparency, while opposition leaders like Imran Masood argue the bill infringes on Muslim rights.

00:00It's the big day in just a short while at about 12 pm we're expecting the
00:03Waqf Amendment Bill to be tabled in the Lok Sabha.
00:06Discussions both in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
00:08A Muslim group has backed the Waqf Bill.
00:11It's come out in support of the government.
00:14This is Jamiat Himayat Islam.
00:16They are supporting the Waqf Bill and very interesting point they are making.
00:19They are saying only land grabbers fear the amendments in the Waqf Bill.
00:25This is a Jamiat offshoot that's basically also questioning
00:28the larger All India Muslim Personal Law Board that's not only organized protests on the streets
00:33but even a short while back has put out a statement requesting all BJP alliance partners,
00:39opposition leaders to not vote in favor of the Waqf Amendment Bill.
00:43To oppose it as much as they want.
00:45But when a Muslim body in itself a Jamiat is Himayat Islam
00:49very clearly comes forth to say that we must support the amendments
00:54because only the land grabbers will fear the Waqf Amendment Bill that the government is bringing in.
01:00I want to bring in Piyush Mishra for the latest on that.
01:03So remember there's been a Kerala Bishop Council,
01:06a Kerala Church and then comes in this specific statement this morning.
01:11Piyush tell me more about when a Jamiat Himayat Islam body makes a statement like this
01:16what does it mean for the government as much for the larger discourse in this case?
01:21Well Pooja it certainly busts the narrative, large narrative which has been set by opposition
01:26political parties and a large number of Muslim groups where they claim that
01:30through this Waqf Amendment Bill the government is trying to usurp the land of common Muslim men.
01:36They are going to harass Muslims and a lot of problems will be faced by Muslims after this
01:43bill takes the form of law.
01:44Now there is an organization which is from Saranpur which is asking 10,000 people
01:51from all the Muslim groups who are opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill.
01:55And let me point out 2-3 big questions which has been highlighted in the list of 10 questions
02:00those have been asked.
02:01The first question which this organization asks is that what contribution has the Waqf
02:05Board made to the progress of Muslims till date?
02:08How many poor girls have been married off by the Waqf Board till date?
02:12How many homeless people have been given houses by the Waqf Board till date?
02:15And what is more important question which this organization is asking that
02:19despite the Waqf Board having the third largest property in the country,
02:23why is every fourth beggar roaming on the streets is a Muslim?
02:26So that's the biggest question which this organization is now asking.
02:3210 questions they have asked from various Muslim organizations who are opposing this,
02:37protesting against this bill and who are also requesting opposition political parties.
02:42Important points that you are telling us Piyush has been made by this Jamiat Himaat Islam
02:49body.
02:49It's from Uttar Pradesh, from Saharanpur.
02:51Stay on with me Piyush because opposition is very clear.
02:55They want to object and oppose this bill.
02:58Imran Masood, one of the vocal leaders on this has something to say this morning.
03:02Let's listen it.
03:12Imran Masood.
04:12Imran Masood.
05:12Imran Masood.
05:43So Imran Masood, remember a senior leader from the opposition,
05:46he's also been associated with the JPC.
05:49He's not convinced that enough recommendations on changes that have been made.
05:53He continues to say that this is an infringement on Muslim rights
05:57while the government says transparency is needed.
05:59Arbitrary powers of Waqf cannot be allowed.
