00:00PTV Sports is back with us live.
00:04We have Tanoy Ulag, Ernie Gawilan, and Coach Brian Michael Ong
00:08to talk about their latest tournament, the Sasalihan.
00:12Good morning, gentlemen, and welcome to PTV Sports.
00:19Alright. Good morning.
00:22Good morning.
00:24Coach, I know that you're preparing for the World Para Series today.
00:29What are the preparations for this series?
00:35For now, we're training because the World Para Series is a big deal for us
00:41because this is one of the qualifiers for the World Championships in Singapore this September.
00:47So, for now, the whole team will be together.
00:51They've already trained together.
00:53We've already started bonding.
01:00It's not just that we have to be ready for the competition.
01:05We also have to be comfortable with each other
01:07so that it's easier to train each other.
01:12Coach, how is our training here?
01:14Are there special trainings that you'll add on
01:18just to make sure that our team is in the A-game?
01:23So far, our training has been a bit challenging
01:27because we were able to go to Phil Sports a bit late
01:31because our dorm had a renovation.
01:35So, we're very happy that we were still given a chance to be together.
01:40And even when we're not together with the athletes,
01:44we usually train virtually.
01:48They also consult and ask Coach Tony for workouts.
01:53So, they're not neglected.
01:56Coach, I believe that your competition series is also to know Marco's classification.
02:02What is your strategy for him in order to know his classifications?
02:08For Marco Tinamistan, he's still under review for 2025
02:13because in his initial classification in 2023,
02:16he was given a sports class S4.
02:19So, we believe that the right category for him is S3
02:24because of the impairments he has.
02:28So, hopefully, when he's classed S3,
02:31he'll have better chances to qualify for the higher competitions.
02:37I'll go to our well-be-meddled athlete, Ernie Gawilan.
02:43Ernie, you're one of the most accomplished para-athletes.
02:47How do you feel about competing in the World Para Swimming Series?
02:53For now, I'm excited because
02:58this is the first competition that we'll attend this year, 2025.
03:06So, I'm excited for the results of the competition.
03:13I remember you got this historic gold medal in the 2018 Asian Para Games.
03:19Is this your goal for the World Championships,
03:22to win a gold medal or to finish the podium?
03:26That's my goal, to win a gold medal in the World Championships.
03:35But, it's hard for us to be able to compete there
03:41because we're top players in other countries.
03:45So, we'll just compete in the competitions.
03:49Yes.
03:51Okay, Muhaymin.
03:53Is this your first time to join the World Championships Series?
04:00This is my second time.
04:02I joined the last World Series in Singapore.
04:06How are you preparing for this?
04:08I'm excited.
04:10I hope we can qualify.
04:15Who is your biggest rival in the World Series?
04:20I believe, even before, it was always China.
04:23For me, it's still China, Japan, Iran, and my best friend, Indonesia.
04:30We have a lot of rivals in SBN.
04:35Coach Brian, as we said, China has always been our nemesis
04:39when it comes to Para Swimming.
04:41What should we improve in terms of our training
04:47so that we can somehow beat China?
04:55For me, we should have complete facilities for them.
05:00Although, the field sports complex is good,
05:03we still have a lot to add.
05:05For example, it would be better if we could continue
05:09the training of each athlete for the whole year round.
05:13Sometimes, we have a pause in our training
05:19because there are things we can't control.
05:23But, it doesn't stop us from training.
05:27Maybe, one of the biggest factors is the nutrition of the athletes.
05:34We had this before with our athletes.
05:39While they are in the dorm, they have a cafeteria
05:45where they are given what they need to eat.
05:49Based on their calories and macros,
05:53they are given what they need to eat.
05:55So, individually, they are assessed by our nutritionist.
05:58So, hopefully, it can be reversed.
06:01Coach Brian, meaning to say,
06:03are our para-athletes still in the dorm?
06:07In the POC?
06:10Now, we were given a chance to stay in the dorm again.
06:13But, earlier this year,
06:15we were forced to let them stay in the dorm.
06:18Our office was also helping us
06:22to give us a chance to let them stay.
06:25Because, our training is different.
06:27We monitor them more.
06:30Also, it's different when our coach is present.
06:38For Ernie Guwilan,
06:39Sir Ernie, I believe that for this upcoming competition,
06:45you will be more strict with your strategies.
06:48What do you see that you need to strengthen?
06:51For now, ma'am,
06:53the stamina is the most important.
06:57Especially for me,
06:59my event is quite long.
07:03400 feet style.
07:04So, you really need endurance.
07:07That's what Coach Tony and Coach Brian taught me.
07:13For you, Hamain,
07:14what do you need to improve?
07:19For me, ma'am,
07:21I need to improve my tempo
07:24so that I can qualify for the World Championship.
07:28Also, I hope I can qualify for the Paralympic Games
07:31when I'm 30 years old.
07:35Do you have any other preparations
07:37apart from this World Championship Series?
07:40The Southeast Asian Para Games is coming up.
07:43How are your preparations for that?
07:47For the Southeast Asian Para Games,
07:52we will start in January.
07:55The competition will start in January.
07:58It's also part of our training
08:00because we want our preparation to be long.
08:03Of course, we need to be prepared.
08:06It's not just a matter of giving us a short amount of time.
08:10In our previous competitions in the Southeast Asian Para Games,
08:15the performance of the Para Swimming was good.
08:17I believe that in Indonesia, we won 12 gold medals
08:20followed by 10 gold medals in Cambodia.
08:23We want to beat the 12 gold medals that we won in Indonesia.
08:29Hopefully, we can produce good results
08:35in the Southeast Asian Para Games.
08:37What is the target of the Southeast Asian Para Games
08:41heading into this tournament?
08:45The competition is different.
08:51In Thailand, there are a lot of new athletes.
08:59It will be exciting for the other athletes
09:03because there are a lot of people we don't know yet.
09:10Coach Ryan, as of now,
09:12are you still scouting or trying out our national team
09:17in order to get more young breed of swimmers?
09:22Yes.
09:23Actually, we scouted in November
09:28when we had the Philippine National Para Games in Rizal.
09:32The athletes we scouted there are mostly young.
09:36They will be competing in the Asian Youth Para Games
09:40that will be held this year.
09:42Although, I don't know the schedule
09:46or where the competition will be held.
09:49But most likely, the athletes we scouted there
09:53are the ones with potential in the Asian Youth Para Games.
09:59Finally, do you have any messages, shoutouts,
10:02and greetings?
10:04The floor is yours.
10:05Sir Ernie, let's start with you.

10:51I would like to thank you for your patience and training.

11:45I would also like to thank the media
11:48who believes in us.
