00:00The Department of Agriculture will contribute P10 billion
00:04for the construction of solar-powered irrigation systems and soil rejuvenation.
00:10According to the DA's request,
00:13President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr. will prepare projects for the next three years
00:20that can water 160,000 hectares of sugarcane plantation
00:27with 16,000 units of solar-powered irrigation with shallow-tubed wells.
00:33Soil rejuvenation is also included in the projects
00:36where massive liming will be done in some plants to lower the soil acidity.
00:43Soil rejuvenation may start in October
00:47if the funds for this project are already available.
00:50The production of sugarcane in the country
00:52may increase by 180,000 metric tons
00:57if the solar-powered irrigation system and soil rejuvenation
01:03that will help to lower the country's dependency on imported sugar is started.
01:09A little over a third of the whole industry.
01:14And the net result of this would probably be a yield increase
01:20of about P7.7 billion a year.
01:23Also, we also proposed a soil rejuvenation program
01:28taking into consideration that most of the farms in Batangas and in Tarlac
01:32have a very low pH level of only 4.5. It's highly acidic.
