00:00Was the Earth created, or did it come into existence on its own without any outside interference?
00:21That's the question at the heart of the debate that still rages between evolution
00:26and creation, and believe me, it's quite the debate.
00:30Origins is talking about history.
00:33And the problem with history is that if you weren't there and you don't know everything,
00:37how could you ever be sure of exactly what happened?
00:40When you look at the history of life on Earth,
00:43what we see is a constantly changing panoply of different forms appearing.
00:49And evolution is the mechanism that explains how that happens.
00:54And when I want to find out about the history of the past,
00:57concerning how we got here, how the Earth got here,
00:59I go to the Bible, because that's a history book of the universe.
01:02That's an eyewitness account of what happened.
01:06The notion that in this one area, science has somehow gone off the rails,
01:12and you can't trust what it's done in biology,
01:15but the rest of science is perfectly okay,
01:19that signals that something else is going on here.
01:22The question of the origin of life, the origin of the universe,
01:25where we came from, is a historical question.
01:28It's a question of origins.
01:30You can't go out to the Grand Canyon and recreate the Grand Canyon in the laboratory.
01:34You have to look at the evidence of the rocks and the fossils
01:38and try to reconstruct the past, what happened to cause that.
01:43We hope that we've helped you take a few steps towards clarity on this issue.
