00:00Much is being said these days, many accusations and many allegations have been made.
00:06And of course we are open to criticism.
00:09But let me be completely honest, we do not appreciate the tone in which it's being delivered.
00:15This is not how you speak to your close allies.
00:19And I still consider Denmark and the United States to be close allies.
00:25We respect that the United States needs a greater military presence in Greenland,
00:30as Vice President Vance mentioned this evening.
00:33We, Denmark and Greenland, are very much open to discussing this with you, with an open mind.
00:40We still have the defence agreement from 1951.
00:44It offers ample opportunity for the United States to have a much stronger military presence in Greenland.
00:50If that is what you wish, then let us discuss it.
00:55In 1945, the United States had 17 bases and military installations in Greenland with thousands of soldiers.
01:17Today, only one American base is left, the one Vice President Vance visited a few hours ago
01:24and something like 200 soldiers.
01:27We can do more, much more, within the framework we have today.
01:31Let us make use of that. And let us do it together.
01:36Room, attention!
01:39Hey guys, how are we doing? Please, at ease, at ease.
01:42Good lord, sit down and eat, sit down and eat.
01:44Don't let the Vice President stop you guys from eating your chow here.
01:47How are we doing?
01:49It's cold as shit here.
01:52The Vice President also stated that Denmark has done too little in the Arctic.
01:58The other day he said that the United States has also done too little.
02:03And the fact is that we have all been harvesting the peace dividend.
02:08We all acted on the assumption that the Arctic was and should be a low-tension area.
02:14But that time is over. Status quo is not an option.
02:19And that is why we have stepped up as well.
02:22With a billion dollar investment in Arctic security just a few weeks ago,
02:27an investment that will provide more drones, more ships, more personnel,
02:32and more will come later this year.
02:51Today NATO's security guarantee also covers Greenland.
02:56But we very much welcome if NATO and Allies would play a greater role in the Arctic.
03:01We will shoulder our share of the responsibility. No one should doubt that.
03:08Greenland
03:25I am pleased that the Vice President today emphasized the right of the Greenlandic people
03:30to determine their own future. This is important.
