00:00you after, and I saw you after.
00:01And I think you're doing better than we are.
00:04You're doing better than anybody.
00:05So it's so great.
00:07I'm so glad you're here.
00:08But as we approach the end of the Islamic holy
00:12month of Ramadan, we're also deeply honored to be
00:15joined by many of the international friends and
00:17partners, including the Ambassador from Saudi
00:19Arabia to the United States, a very, very
00:23special woman, Princess Rima.
00:26Princess, thank you.
00:27Thank you, Princess.
00:30Say hello to everybody.
00:31It's great to see you.
00:33Thanks as well to the ambassadors and chiefs of
00:36mission from the United Arab Emirates, from
00:40Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Pakistan, Malaysia,
00:45Brunei, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Morocco, Indonesia,
00:51Algeria, Djibouti, Cameroon, Lebanon, Nigeria,
00:57Guinea, Tanzania, Kenya, the Maldives, Libya,
01:03Senegal, Bangladesh.
01:05And we have a few others.
01:06I'm sorry I forgot, but I am going to be in big
01:08trouble if I did.
01:10But that's a pretty good group of people
01:12represented tonight.
01:13Wouldn't you say, Senator?
01:14And we're greatly honored by your presence this
01:20evening.
01:21I just really want to thank you all.
01:22It's a special group.
01:23I look forward to it.
01:24You know, we have long days, not like other
01:27people that had this position.
01:29I work long hours.
01:31And I said tonight, after making three calls for
01:34people running for office, they call them
01:36teletown halls, and they're not easy to do.
01:39And I said, Well, now I go home and can relax.
01:44They said, No, you can't, sir.
01:47You're seeing your friends from lots of different
01:49places, and that's okay.
01:50As soon as they found out who they were, I said,
01:52All right, that's okay.
01:53But Ramadan is a season of spiritual reflection and
01:56self-restraint.
01:58Every day during the sacred ninth month of the
02:01Islamic calendar, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk,
02:04deepening their focus on prayer and devotion to
02:07God.
02:08So nice.
02:09Then Muslims all over the world join family and
02:11friends each night and sundown to give thanks to
02:14the Almighty and break their fast with an iftar
02:17dinner, just like this one.
02:19This is what we have tonight.
02:20Right, Paul?
02:21I hope you like it.
02:22If you don't like it, don't complain.
02:24Okay?
02:24You're still in the White House, right?
02:28We're all in the White House together.
02:30So how bad can that be?
02:32So tonight, we gather with the goodwill and the
02:34gratitude for God's many blessings.
02:36And that's what it's all about.
02:38This tradition exemplifies the beautiful spirit of
02:40all three Abrahamic faiths, the spirit that
02:44inspires us to seek happiness and prosperity
02:47at home and peace for the entire world.
02:50We're all looking for peace for the entire world.
02:53When I was in Michigan, I met with so many leaders
02:55of faith.
02:56And I said, What about your attitude here, your
03:00attitude there?
03:01All of the attitudes and all of the things I heard.
03:04They said, Sir, all we want is peace.
03:07Right?
03:08Remember, Mr. Mayor?
03:09I said, But I understand you don't mind death.
03:12They said, No, sir, we want to live.
03:14We want to live and we want to be happy.
03:16We want to love everybody.
03:18And I actually was a very inspirational period of
03:22time for me.
03:23And I want to thank you also for introducing me to
03:25so many of your friends.
03:26It was absolutely incredible.
03:28Thank you very much to our Muslim friends.
03:31I look forward to working with each of you to
03:33achieve a brighter and more hopeful future.
03:36And I think together we're going to do great.
03:37You're going to make strides like you've never
03:39made.
03:39You have somebody in the White House that loves you.
03:42Thank you all very much.
03:43And now we'll have a little dinner, have a little
03:45dinner.
