00:00New data from the Integrated Food Security First Classification reveals that ongoing
00:06conflict and surging food prices have led the Democratic Republic of the Congo into
00:11a dire food crisis. An alarming 28 million individuals are now suffering from acute hunger,
00:18a rise of 2.5 million since the recent outbreak of violence in December.
00:242.5 million people have been pushed into acute food insecurity and the needs are growing.
00:31The humanitarian situation in DRC is deteriorating at an alarming rate. Families who were already
00:39struggling to feed themselves are now facing an even harsher reality. We have been able
00:47to resume operations in North and South Kivu, but we urgently need more resources and more funding.
00:55Recent findings show that over 2 million internally displaced persons are experiencing severe
01:01hunger, with an alarming 738,000 in dire circumstance IPC Phase 4.
01:08Peace is the number one priority. Peace would allow us to continue farming, which would
01:16enable us to cater for our needs. The situation is particularly dire in the conflict-affected
01:23eastern provinces of DRC, where families have lost access to their livestock and livelihoods.
01:30Some of us have great needs. Many have become widows because a lot of men were killed.
01:38There is need to support the widows and orphans because many lost their parents, many lost their
01:46husbands and houses destroyed by bombs. WFP plans to reach 6.4 million people, but with the
01:54projected funding shortfalls, it requires an additional 399 million US dollars to sustain operations until August 2025.
