00:00A wonderful Wednesday evening, one and all.
00:05Sharma Zespina here, homegrown and glad to bring you PTV News Now.
00:09And let's get to what the country is talking about.
00:13Vice President Sara Duterte has had her blinders on.
00:16In her view of the country, she swore to help build and the government she vowed to assist
00:20in her role as the second highest official of the land and once leader of the Department
00:25of Education.
00:26Her latest remark in the Hagen-Holland of the nation headed towards the dumpster and
00:30dustbin of history and drew immediate clap back from the palace press officer, Under
00:34Secretary Claire Castro, who lamented her dystopian view and questioned her dereliction
00:40of duty to perform the tasks of and responsibilities expected of her.
00:44Castro also hit the vice president's inability to acknowledge the gains and forward steps
00:49the government has obtained in curbing inflation, drawing investments and establishing stronger
00:54presence with the grassroots with poverty alleviation programs, job creation and delivering
01:00social services.
01:02In some, the vice president's work ethic and job performance did not merit the trust of
01:06the people, let alone a shot at a higher post and the hardest job in government, the presidency,
01:11Castro added.
01:13The sitting vice president must be reminded of her predecessor who was mocked, derided
01:18and alienated by the government of her father and former president and yet never quit, held
01:22back or worse squandered her office's relatively measly budget, but instead spent it wisely
01:27and even solicited from abroad to augment what she had during a most difficult time
01:32of the COVID pandemic.
01:36And turning to news from overseas, the peace pact between Kyiv and Moscow, which Trump
01:40has brokered as off a slow start with a concession on both sides to halt attacks in the Baltic
01:46Sea.
01:47Eventually, Moscow will insist on keeping the land it seized from Ukraine and it's
01:51This week suffered the biggest Ukrainian drone attack since the start of the war, leaving
01:55at least three dead and 17 injured.
01:58Many Muscovites are trying to ignore the war, but many also hope that negotiations between
02:02the Kremlin and the new U.S. administration will soon bring a peace that Russians consider
02:06a victory.
02:07Officials say the goal is international recognition of the new borders that the Russian army has
02:12obtained by force.
02:14It is clear that there will be a bilateral settlement between us and Kyiv.
02:19It should be a peace treaty that will legalize the new borders of Russia and the post-Soviet
02:24borders of Ukraine.
02:26Many in Moscow are already celebrating the new geopolitical scenario before the conflict
02:30is ended.
02:32This is a real victory.
02:34You can open champagne.
02:35Also, it cannot be lost.
02:37Russia must continue the offensive because no one canceled the ambitions of the United
02:41States.
02:42Yes, they are afraid of us, but it does not mean that they abandoned their idea of a world
02:46empire.
02:48After more than three years of war, independent media outlet MediaZona counts more than 95,000
02:54Russian casualties.
02:55But these losses are not stopping the Kremlin from carrying on with the war.
02:59In a meeting with wives and mothers of deceased soldiers, Russian President Vladimir Putin
03:03said there would be no concessions.
03:07We are not going to do that.
03:09We must choose for ourselves a version of the world that would suit us and that would
03:13ensure peace for our country for a long historical perspective.
03:19Critics of Putin can only speak from exile.
03:21As they see it, the Kremlin could make concessions, but giving up its territorial ambitions is
03:26out of the question.
03:29Compromises can be presented on some other issues related to how the Ukrainian security
03:34architecture will be formed after the war.
03:37Moscow wants to be a participant in the formation of this new Ukrainian security architecture
03:42and in fact, to describe what can be.
03:46The Ukrainian government is planning to provide 20 kg of fresh fruits worth 136 million pesos
03:53to the South China Sea Green Valley Subdivision, the barangay of Togan, Baguio City, Kalman.
03:59The joint buy-bust operation is being carried out by the PDR-Baguio-Banguio Provincial Office,
04:05the PDR-NCR Northern District Office, the PDR-RONCR-RCEP, the Procur RDEU, and the result
04:12is to prevent the operation of a suspect.
04:15One of the suspects is a police officer from Baguio City Police Office, who is a police
04:19executive master sergeant.
04:21Many of the suspects are women salesmasters, tattoo artists from Valenzuela City, and mechanics
04:28from San Juan, Aguó, La Unión.
04:30The suspect is accused of committing the RA-9165 particular, selling and possession of dangerous
04:37drugs.
04:38Baguio City Police Office Director of Police, Colonel Ruel Tagal, said that this is an illegal
04:43activity.
04:44The BCPO and other agencies have shown that this is an internal cleansing, and that this
04:50is an act of integrity of the police.
04:55They did not lack in reminding their colleagues not to be involved in such illegal activities.
05:04But we know, even for us, we cannot say that we will watch our colleagues 24-7, so this
05:11happened.
05:12As of now, he is under the custody of the PDEA, right now investigated.
05:20Our next move there is, once the commitment order is given from the courts, then we will,
05:32that's our basis, just to stop his salary.
05:37We are 100% ready for the coming of the Electoral Board, which will serve the May 12, 2025 midterm
05:46elections in Cordillera, and will pass the certification process to the Department of
05:50Science and Technology.
05:52According to the agency, 93% of the 23,000 electoral boards will pass the theoretical
06:00and practical examination.
06:02The trust of the officers and the students will be the result of the computerized election
06:07process.
06:08According to the agency, 7% will retake the assessment.
06:12Of the 23,000 that will pass, only those will receive a voting receipt from the Certified
06:17Board of Elections Inspectors.
06:19According to the agency, the certified board will be trained to serve the election, and
06:22the remaining 4,000 will be sent to the electoral boards.
06:25According to the Automated System Law of the Philippines, the mandate of the trained personnel
06:30to serve the election will be certified by the OST.
06:34The Commission on Elections will determine the 22,000 clustered precincts in the province
06:39and two cities in Cordillera.
