00:00Hi, Steve Rolley. I'm here at Worthing Golf Club where I've been associated for about
00:0937 years now. I was head professional. I'm speaking to you today because I had prostate
00:15cancer and I was diagnosed about five years ago. I was so lucky because I had a letter
00:22through the post, just an abstract letter inviting me to take part in a clinical research
00:27trial for prostate cancer. I'd always had PSA-level tests and they were always low.
00:34But I still said yes, I'd take part. The researchers think they found markers in your DNA which
00:41would indicate if you've got prostate cancer. And although my PSA-level checks were really
00:48good, it turned out that I did have cancer. I was so, so lucky. And it was a trial partially
00:56funded by the Royal Marsden and Prostate Cancer UK. So I was treated very quickly.
01:04I had an MRI scan, a multi-parametric MRI scan and then a biopsy and subsequently had
01:10my prostate removed all within a matter of weeks. And luckily for me, because it was
01:16found so early, the cancer was solely located in the prostate and now I'm cancer free.
01:24The message really is that if you get any symptoms, if you pee in the night too often,
01:33if you get any symptoms that may indicate that you have prostate problems, you need
01:40to go to the doctor straight away. If they find you have got cancer, then they can deal
01:46with it. I had mine out, you can have brachiotherapy, you can have radiotherapy. They can treat
01:51prostate cancer very successfully, very quickly if you get up and go to the doctor if you've
01:58got any worries at all. Awareness is growing all the time and thankfully more and more
02:05men are going and getting checked out. One in eight of us is going to get prostate cancer.
02:09For goodness sake, don't avoid the issue. Don't get worried, don't get embarrassed and
02:16just go to the doctor.
